Fantastic!! Can't wait for my two to get here either and see if one or both present additional tonal options for my U67 - I'll sell the other one to Martin John Butler LOL I read the whole thread and not hearing both your guys' thoughts after getting the tubes is a serious cliffhanger! What did you think? Worth the cost? definitely! And the Amperex changed my 67 tremendously for the better. I popped the EF806S back in to make sure I wasn't 'hearing things' . . . but I wasn't. I was hearing the sonic truth! The Amperex has been back in ever since. And I have a spare Amperex to replace it with in 2065

Don’t want t reread thread, which amperex and year do you have ? Amperex EF86 1967 - two of them. New in box. The long plates with the shiny almost diamond like pattern stainless steel look inside.

I don’t care for the Amperex in my (vintage tuned capsule) 67 Reissue.
NOS Tele has been wonderful. For vocals, I also prefer the 67 with Pueblo JR preamp. I occasionally go Coil 70 or 286-110, even less often add negative feedback on the Coils.

I've tried a couple of Amperex's in my 67 and one was close, but I still preferred and use the Tele's I have in mine. But I keep an eye out for another Amperex to try since I think it comes down more to the specific tube of either and how it matches the mic.

When you roll a new tube basically you are sort of tweaking the circuit, even two of the same, could sound different.

Well, as correct as I am, that's for sure. The NOS Tele 806s are amazing tubes for the microphone. It's all a matter of preference and of course the signal chain will also affect things. I'm especially curious what stevenlmorgan you mean by "vintage tuned capsule" (and by who?) ? As our good friend timcampbell points out... in great tube microphones, the tube is as almost important as the capsule, and I would add there is an interaction there to consider! (man, I love this forum)

Klaus tuned my capsule after discussion of what I did not like about my 67 reissue, his evaluation of the capsule only, and my approval to move forward.
Tele tubes sounded terrible in my 67 before tuning, the transparency was not flattering as the capsule did not sound as I wished.
Fantastic result, quick turnaround.
Actually, I left out a step: Klaus required that I send the mic to Neumann first, they fixed a loose connector and said the mic was fine. It was not fine, it was the second most sibilant mic of the many high end mics I have owned.
