Just thinking about getting some more Missing Links or 2 VP28's or another Heider. I've had the ML's before, but had to sell due to unforseen issues...I've been wanting them back since they left. Anyway, I love having the HI Cut on the ML's...but wondering if two more pres would be smarter...or maybe another Heider. Wondering if the Heider would be much different. Any thoughts?

I don't record any of my pres unless they're followed by a ML

I am running all my mixes through two Vp28's. Mastering engineer was really impressed with the last album I sent to him. I really like what they do to everything, vox, Ac GTR, Elec....

I've been wanting to do this for a while..... I'd love to go Summing Box>VP28's>ML>Sparrow II....... I dream about the sound I would have with that rig. All my damn money is going into plugins right now though.

Also run my mixes through VP28's. Love them. I do find they add a little hiss though.
Normally just run the gain at unity and fader at 8. Sometimes gain +2 and fader 1 down. Thats when it adds more hiss
What do you guys do i.t.o gain and fader for 2 Buss?

For me it was the culmination and realization of my "experiments" on 2 bus.

It's a big azz piece of hardware for you patriots and will cost enough to make you wish you didn't HAVE to buy it. But you will. We all will.

Once I get my lazy butt off this sofa, I'm gonna run my Helios into the Heider for a vocal. Hell, maybe I'll just use the Heider. I'm kind of one of those "I don't want to change the way I'm doing things because if it doesn't go well that means I'll have to track it again and that would be more work than I want to do" kind of guys...So, I really haven't strayed away from the Helios on vocals because it just works every time...and I can tweak the EQ a little whenever I need to...Maybe the Helios into the Heider will be absolute sonic bliss.

If you're concerned about precision control over and between L/R channels on ur 2, the ML's are a better choice than the Vp 28's, though over all, the Vp's are slightly more versatile on paper IMO

I've used both in the past quite a bit before. If you're looking for L/R balance finesse or more filter options, the ML is the way to go. If you're looking for a wider tonal palate with more coloration and slightly less L/R control and Filter options, the VP28 is the way to go. The VP is much more ergonomically accepting of "drive" options in it's topology than the ML. Personally, before moving to the new box, the VP28 was my favorite over the ML for the abovementioned reason. The ML is better if you want less of a sonic imprint. That was not what I was looking for at that time though.... You really can't go wrong with either depending on your needs.

I just ran a vocal that was recorded into a N72 pre back out thru the VP28 into a Warm Audio76 into a Clariphonic (hardware) through my console and it was magic! Cant wait to run a mix thru them into the Clariphonic, SSL Bus Comp then Burl B2...pure analog heaven.

I use a pair of custom VP312 with a Folcrom. Their built with carbon comp resistors, attenuator bypass, and carbon comp GAR2520, GAR1731 or Reddot's depending on the sound I want. These are the best pre's I've found so far for this application. Also use these for some mojo on individual line in's to the Folcrom with a in-line pad.
