I've been re-evaluating a lot of my outboard and trying to sell a few things but very tempted to pull the trigger on a Neumann U47FET reissue. I know there are many great alternatives that are cheaper (and probably in some ways better) but there's definitely the psychology of the "real thing" and not clones at the studio I've run into many times. Same with a pair of Coles 4038’s…which I do like but don’t necessarily feel I need but it gets regularly asked for.

The clones are quickly becoming so prevalent and ubiquitous that soon, only an old school experienced engineer will know the difference between a clone and the real thing. These days, it's SOOO common to ask : "do you guys have a Neumann U47?" Studio will answer to the affirmative, and when the client shows up and asks for it to be put on the stand - up comes a Warm 47 or a Stam 47 or a Wunder 47 or a Flea 47 or even a.....gasp....Slate modeled 47. Pretty soon the clone will essentially BE the real thing. My prediction.....

Yeah it’s really becoming the difference between the men and the boys, but if I book a place and was told they have a 47 and see a Warm or Peluso I’m going to be pissed.

Yeah I don't think it's reasonable to expect 99.9% of the individuals who make their living in the studio business to have a real U47. But, I think a U47FET is right on that line of not unattainable, holds it value, and there's one at most every tracking studio in Nashville and they are kind of expected

Even to this day. I have a clone FET47 now, but an 87 or an 84 or 57 or 77 is much more "essential". Go figure....

At less than half the price! UT 47 FET very nice too... I dig those FETs. Chris

+1 My PC is 8 years old and I just bought my son an expensive high end gaming PC and wow those 12th gen i9's and M.2 ram modules .... woof - so fast. Windows and apps open liking changing TV channel (well almost) I'm definitely wanting a new computer - in my case a PC. I will get it closer to the end of the year hopefully.

How about tried to buy but was denied.
This morning saw a listing for one of those new little SSL interfaces on GC’s used page, BUT the photo was an Alpha Channel, so I figured at $299 a nice reasonable quick flip, BUT NOOOOO, someone at GC realized the mistake and it disappeared as an interface in my basket as I was entering my payment info and suddenly an Alpha Channel was in inventory.

Friends brand new J45 deluxe less then 5 x years old has buckled neck. Went back to dealer to rectify now for 6 x months. Still no resolution as aust gives only 1 x year warranty on these. Check out that J45 carefully if you go to buy.

For sale locally. If I can negotiate a decent price I'm definitely losing the battle. I lost. Attachments:

For sale locally. If I can negotiate a decent price I'm definitely losing the battle. I lost. Anybody remember the days in the 80’s when you couldn’t give an old Orange Crate way? I remember a stack of used Orange heads and those terrible giant 150w Kustom PA amps, the ones that were like 6 rack spaces in every used section.

Who knows? Anything's possible.

I absolutely did not lose. This amp sounds killer and has a few different great sounds in it. Stoked!
