Bumping up this thread to ask a simple question.
Why would AEA be so cruel as to make R88 Stereo ribbon mics?
ETA: Wouldn’t this be a great way to add some background vocals with two or more singers?

Samar does as well! VL373. And even an active one - VL373a I have not tried a stereo ribbon, but I would like to do so.

Might as well keep this going, instead of some UA plugs a 10U 500 rack filled with EQ's and comps so I can truly do OTB mixing. I'd have to save up, it would cost me 10X more and I'm using skewed longevity maths that don't really make all that much sense for it seem viable.

I only have a pair of the VL37s but they are the most gorgeous sounding ribbons I've used, and I have quite a few (44, 84, 88, woodpecker, even a cad and others) So I imagine the 373 and 373a would likewise be exactly as gorgeous. markfouxman does amazing work. It takes a lot of self-control not to ring up the CC balances with impulse buying of justifiable 'needs'. But of course I found out 30 years ago: you have to pay the balances off!

I’ve been fighting to compare my custom VL37a (purposely begins to roll-off starting at 5k, per my request) and a stock one... One day.
In the meantime, Milab is about to release the VIP-60 and I can hardly control myself! It doesn’t help that I had a VIP-50 many years ago and greatly regret selling it!

Ward - VL37 is better then your 44bx seriously. Tell me more as the mojo on my 44bx was just down right unforgettable.

I will not be able to resist the Fender Vibro Champ. I will be getting one directly.

I will not be able to resist the Fender Vibro Champ. I will be getting one directly. You'll be glad you did. I use mine all the time here in the studio. If you want to tighten up a stock VC, I've used Weber and Jupiter speakers to excellent effect. The Jupiter so far is my favorite these last couple years.

Sometimes you need dirty. Sometimes you need soft. I also kind of think RCA44s weren't as soft and warm when they were new, because old 40s and 50s recordings had magical clarity to them.

Well yeah😎 think of that entire ribbon motor brand new, and perfect tension.

Hot tip! Might be gone already. Supposedly mint AA CM12 in Reverb, for under $400. Including shipping... Chris
