Does anyone know a plugin you can buy that gives you that great warm ADAT tape sound from the 90s? I think I still have my ADAT machine from the 90s. I can send it to you. It’s pretty minty.

I have 5 xt20’s.....they plug in.....but one goes up in smoke each time i try. Made a couple barely charting records on those things. That’d have to be like $50 or less to be an impulse buy.

This thread is the ultimate gear-porn
pour over the desires of others and contrast with yours
And yeah... just ordered an MX Strat for the studio ... we have a Deluxe but thinking a Champ could be a good tone partner....does this ever end? :-)

Was super hot for an AS V3a 500 module until I put it in my cart and saw the intl shipping price - cured that impulse real quick! Maybe someday.

Yeah, that stopped me too, so I asked about it: it will usually be lower in reality than the quoted 200, for small item like 500-stuff.

I was severely Jonesing for some vintage Gretsch Round Badge drum shells a couple weeks ago, but I slept on it and I'm OK now. I'm pretty sure that will be my next kit though, and after that a Recording Custom from Yamaha. Right now, though, the focus is on e-Drums so those need to stay on the back burner.

I am glad I have no interest in learning to play drums or I am sure an old Gretsch kit is exactly what I would be wanting. When I lived in Greenville, NC, a small jazz trio made up of two ECU music professors and their drummer buddy from Chapel Hill would play a couple of times a month. That drummer and those drums.............

That drummer and those drums............. Yes that's it 100%. The way those people play those drums, in that style, that's the sound. Well, one of the sounds. The Yamaha I'm looking at is the "other" sound, if I'm going to narrow my choices to two kits. Think Max Roach, VS Steve Gadd

If you have a good Tweed Deluxe, a Champ is going to be a disappointment. Nothing can touch the Deluxe!!! Also every time I've tried a tweed Champ it just seemed like a boxy, farty, underpowered amp. It might just be me though...

I just can't leave it alone.
I've been on the hunt for a pair of 500 series EQ's. I need pleasing (and plentiful?) high/low shelving; a minimum 5 points per band (more is preferred); and outstanding fidelity. I don't want 'fiddly'. Stepped controls are nice (continuously variable on gain ok). Easy to read. Doubles as a line amp? Bonus points.
Here's what I've been looking hardest at:
Avedis e27 Crane Song Insigna Chandler Little Devil Anamod Realios a9052 (I think I've looked at most everything else available).
One of my suppliers recommended the Elysia X Filter 500. Looks great, fits the engineering requirements pretty well; and I'm sure it sounds nice; but I bet it's hard to read and a bit fiddly, too...lots going on with limited 500 faceplate real estate.
Persuade, dissuade, recommend. User experience most welcome. Save me from myself.

srb not to add to your mental burden but I would possibly add CAPI or API 550 style EQ to the list, as well as Iron Age Audioworks Baxandall/Siemens style. I don't use mixing hardware, but I am pretty sure those are the kinds of EQ's I like to use. From your list, I would take a punt on the Avedis, it's something I look at. I have the PSP version. The high shelf is unique on that one, almost shimmery.

I didn't build them (but I wanted to). Lives on my console mix buss insert on the way to a RND Master Buss Processor most of the time. I've looked at their LC's and the BT50. I do want shelves. I'm partial to boost/cut 'tricks'. I'd really like to build a CAPI eq of some kind, but I'm fixin' to get even busier in the days ahead, and managing the time to do that will be challenging. I have an API 5500 that I typically use when I track OH. Use separately on kick and snare, too. Used it in mastering as well. Dig it! I have entertained the 550a several times. I remain tempted. Doesn't get much more classic than that. I have a Dangerous BAX, but it is slightly limited because it's stereo. Still a cool piece. Useful. The Iron Age H9 looks cool. Appears it would be a while for me at the back of the line. Lots of folks seem to like the LH95. I'm not in a rabid hurry but within the next couple weeks or so would be timely. Decisions, decisions.

srb we sold our last pair of LH95s from the first batch yesterday. The next batch is waiting on iron, shouldn’t be too much longer. The first batch of H9s still has 8 left unspoken-for. We had to reprint the faceplates, I wasn’t happy with the quality. Other than that they’re ready to go. COVID has totally upturned everyone’s supply chains.

That's promising, but my last package from Sweetwater (module sized box) was $20 shipping, vs the $200 quote from Audioscape. I don't expect them to match SW, but the 10x price difference definitely put me off.

It might just be me though... The biggest issue with every single version of the Champ is the speaker! A Champ with some nice Tubes into a pair of vintage Jensen 10’s in a vented box to give some lowend heft is very fine indeed or a vintage JBL D120, has to have a real JBL cone with though, lots of E & D 120’s out there with Cheap Weathers recones that just suck.

70’s Silverface champ with the Skip Simmons tone stack mod will turn it into a Tweed Princeton. Add a bigger box and a speaker and you’re set.

I got a chance to puts hands on an Erica Synths SYNTRX (essentially a modern monosynth with the interface and feature set of an EMS Synthi) over the weekend and I'm desperately trying to find reasons not to buy one.
