Silver Bullet 2 should have SSL mojo amps and Helios mojo amps....or two other console flavors in general.
Although an SSL one with an LTLO style buss compressor and the beautiful eq on it already would be pretty cool. The Glu Gun you could call it! Ha! Silver Bullet and Glu Gun haha

Thanks guys, this has all been really helpful. The advice here echoes some of my own reservations. Every one of you had something valuable to offer. I think I will take up Brad on his kind offer. I may need a week or two before trying it though.. I just had surgery last week and will need another in 2-3 weeks. So I’m laying low until all is well.. Get well quick!

Maybe we can just call it "Elmer" instead. Brad

The UAD Helios emulation sounds pretty good, better than their 1073 or their 610. I can only imagine what a Silver Bullet might do with that sound.

SSL of course which there are various flavors in that world alone, neotek(high headroom), flickinger, uad console, Helios. Which would be better? No idea. Your take on an SSL something bus/glue gun box compressor thing I have no doubt would be pretty cool. Add some A and N cascading stuff to it and damn. Be epic. I look forward to Future stuff by you though.

Those consoles got their rep as mixing consoles, not tracking consoles.
As to other pre's of interest for a console, Quad 8 has a fair following, as do the Trident A and B series (almost the same circuit - there's a thread running at PRW about this right now.)
There are a couple others, but it's the night before Christmas and I'm a bit (happily) fuzzy at the moment.

Well I don't really mean the pre amps. I loved mixing on an SSL duality. And some how get the sound in a mojo amp design like Brad's. I don't know how you'd do that. But I'm sure Brad could figure it out. It would likely be more of a mixing box than a mic pre setup. Agree quad eight would be another good one. Probably SSL, quad eight, and Helios would be the next batch of ones people know well.

Merry Christmas everyone !
Speedy recovery Martin !

If the budget is tight the ZED 14 gives you a nice midrange forward sound, rounding off the edges. The most impressive thing to my ears is how wide and big the low end sounded on this mini mixer without becoming mushy or cloudy I think the question to ask and answer FIRST is whether or not you want a "console style" workflow, or a console "sound". Until you figure this out, you're going to be chasing your tail. Cause all of these cheap mixers are not going to give you a traditional console "sound". The SiX is not going to sound like. a SSL4000. Neither will the Allen Heath. They will give you faders and a work surface, and a bunch of cables attached. For "sound", there are much better approaches than an inexpensive mixer. I have to disagree here. I worked with the ZED 14 for four years and it gives the mix a coherence you don't get pure ITB + it sounds very good . Good sounding EQs. 100 mm faders. Inserts on all strips. 2Bus inserts 4xAUX. Vintage sounding EQs. The build is modular you can send single strips in for service, which I never had to. For the money the ZED 14 is a wonder.

Put me in the digital saturation is mostly meh, camp.
I’d like to try the crane song plugins though.

Give Matt AKA Dogears a shout, while it isn’t a direct competitior I think it would be a great comparison. Brad, Bill and Matt are all great guys and deserve our support for coming up with out of the box solutions for making ITB tolerable. You

Put me in the digital saturation is mostly meh, camp. I’d like to try the crane song plugins though. Mostly. Some developer's proofed me wrong in blind ABX testing. The biggest 2019 surprise to me is Kazrogs True Iron and Kclip3. The Slate plugs, in oversampling mode, do great saturation artifacts too.
Downside...it takes serious horse power. Not to forget Airwindows Buss Colors. I hate to say it myself, because I love turning real knobs, but the times they are changing. Using KClip3 you will recognize that you can do some magic with the Multiband saturation mode... Even without MB processing, the damn thing sounds wide open 3D....everything I would assume with hardware processing. True is, when it comes to believable saturation artifacts a lot of plug ins do not sound good.
I was shocked about the Waves Neve strip when I pushed it just a little... Happy 2020 to everyone....

Someone asks about a product.
Dozens of replies, telling how terrible the product is.
Yet, no one here has ever used it.
Is this Gearslutz ??

I had it under my fingers at my retailer and I could not see/hear the value for the money.

Hey, Martin. My console is taking a shit. Something weird going on with the crosstalk. Phasing issues bad so I've pretty much ditched it lately. Likely sell it on Craigslist as a live board for pennies. Served its purpose for me but I'm moving on. That said, I'm a FIRM believer in analog printing. Even found myself snooping around summing mixer threads these last few days (God forbid)lol. Consoles are great when they're right but there's so many moving parts, they are a maintenance nightmare.
I'll tell you this, knowing your workflow as I do, you being slow and methodical on mixes, a summing solution would be perfect for you and really help your sonic footprint. I work fast and often, and once had my templates and console jiving for that workflow, but after these recent problems, I'm pretty much starting over. But like you, I'm looking for an analog solution to a digital problem lol.
