Wow, that's some terrible workmanship. Hard to believe someone could get away with that now.

Those pictures look like what I would imagine me building a mic would look like. Same, brother, same. I'm TERRIBLE with a soldering iron. My latest 'limp through' repair is kinda hilarious.

You might look (sorta ) like Klaus... In comparison to Weird Audio's "Crapmanship". LOL! Chris

Those pictures.....I mean.....thats pretty bad. I am good at soldering, not the best, but I can fix things and not electrocute myself....those pictures are truly awful. I doubt that is production work but more like someone who never soldered before and attempted to repair one, or something. Can only speculate as how that got sold as new, but based on my personal experience with the company, not really surprised?
My first post in here was about one of those mics and it was returned a short time after that (to the GC where I bought it used.) I don't remember why specifically, but I do remember an email conversation where I asked the owner of the company a question and all I got back was a push to sell me another one, new, improved, not something used and sketchy like I'd find at a big box store. It was entertaining to say the least.
As far as this company is concerned "move along, move along, these aren't the mics you are looking for." May the Source be with you.

Ok guys, as requested here are some pics of what I discovered in side this Weird 47 "mod 2". The glaring issues (aside from the fact that it's just an Alctron) are the insanely shitty solder joints on the capsule wiring, and the duct tape. I can't seem to attach files, it says the forum has exceeded it's attachment limit. Here's an imgur album: imgur.com/a/inEVyJbFrankly our email exchange has some gems in it too. At one point he sent me an insanely long (1365 word) email going off about a bunch of his problems, basically how much the world was against him and none of it was his fault....sad really. Ironic how he had the time to type that super long email, but go completely silent when the mic was DOA and I was hoping to just return it to him. Because of his communication blackout, I had to request a paypal refund-- which they did because he also did not respond to their communications. Anyways, I appreciate all the suggestions for better options from you guys. My tech who is familiar with the Alctron circuit is going to help me build something nice using this Alctron body and PSU, probably with a Theirsch capsule. no photos attached?

It was entertaining to say the least. As far as this company is concerned "move along, move along, these aren't the mics you are looking for." May the Source be with you. Those horrendous solders are definitely not production work. I can clearly see the production work and you can see his work. I've never seen the Alctron circuit, but I'm assuming he buys the basic mic unassembled from China, and then does his "mods". This seems to consist of adding a diaphragm, tube, his badging, and assembly. The rest of the PCB is production with clean solder joints, but the assembly is pretty janky...oversized zip ties, one screw holding the PCB in place, tube not mounted well, etc. So in the end he just found a way to profit off of ignorance, because I can pretty much guarantee that just getting the Alctron 47 off of Alibaba is going to be a better mic, with an actual level of QC. Yeah the email exchanges were interesting to say the least. He literally was telling me that a Mexican cartel was after him due to his business deals with Chinese suppliers going bad. Honestly, none of this would suprise me. Play stupid games, get stupid prizes.

Omg what a mess! What brand of tube is that? Doesn’t look familiar.. ..those solder points and the duct tape. How is that even real?? It's a "PSVANE". I had never heard of it either. Current production, and they can be had for about $10. He promised me a NOS Mullard and a Theirsch capsule lol.

This looks like it would actually be better, if not a close second. Just make sure you scribble your name on the tube socket.

You know, that manufacturer providing the "hand made German 7025" tube he says is in all of his 47s. And who needs Theirsch when you have his "dual back plate, dual diaphragm, capsule with FULL BLEED gold sputtered aluminized Mylar diaphragms". With all of that, what's a little duct tape? ;-)

So after not responding to my multiple emails I sent TWO MONTHS AGO, or responding to paypal's refund emails (seller has 1 week to respond, accept return, etc), he just emailed me today. I even tried calling phone numbers from the website and shipping label, neither were active. He's saying the "wrong mic" may have been shipped, but he won't know without seeing it. I don't even know what to say....
Also, I dropped a line to John B at Tape Op explaining what I found inside the mic and how the interaction went down. He said it's not the first story like this they heard. I recommended they remove the reviews, as it was a factor in me considering this mic. They have removed the review.

As much as I personally do hold TapeOp in high regard, as a completely advertiser supported publication, who do you think they are beholden to? Why the advertisers of course, he who provides the cash that pays our bills rules. Doubt you will see the review pulled.

I write John and say “hey, so in so thing looks great, can I review it?” and he usually gives me the go ahead. There have been at least two occasions where they’ve told me no because of issues they’ve had (or heard about) with certain companies. The crew there does their homework and it’s definitely not all about the money. Ask me how much I get paid to write reviews for them 😂. Not surprising, the review has been pulled. I come from the dark side where I hear all the crap manufacturers pull and still get glowing reviews ( including TapeOp). On a side note, I wonder if we can get one of the Betting sites will take bets on what name Weird pops up with as in six months.
