I'm not sure how the full version goes as far as the rig player rigs. It is kinda confusing cause they had TH-U already and then introduced this rig capture tech which sits in a little player inside the TH-U window. It basically looks like you load up a Kemper instead of an image of a specific amp. Then from within that player deal you pick rigs. When I demo'd TH-U full, I hadn't really delved into the rig player much yet so I'm not sure if it comes with extra rigs for the rig player. It definitely comes with a boatload of amps in the standard, non rig-player form but most of them were esoteric high gain stuff that I didn't care about. The Slate version (that everyone with the bundle has) already has a lot of amp/cab/effect models so I had no attraction to the full version. But once I started using the rig player stuff, it sort of took something I already liked up a notch. I've been using that (rig player) with the American Classics and the Vintage Collection stuff almost exclusively. It's so damn fun to play and it just straight up sounds like mic'd amps to me. I guess I'll have to figure out if "full" has the rig player. It definitely has the rig player. I’m just not sure if it comes with any of the additional rig libraries.

Is THU Full the way to go here. Their site is kind of confusing with a bunch of different "styles" 9rock, metal, etc.) of TH-U. I'm presuming "full" has all of them? Oh wait - I bought the American Classics not the Vintage. So there’s ownhammer irs in the cab thingy within the rig player?

drbill I’d try and buy a more limited version in order to get the rig player and then buy the American and British Classic collections for another $58.

I just replaced guitars in the song I was working with and I do think it sounds and sits more realistically.

You replaced real tracked amps with THU?
I can't wait to hear it in mix time.

For those of you talking about how much you like TH-U, have any of you compared it to Amplitube?
I'm still pretty new to the whole amp sim thing, but the recent group buy from IK grabbed me. I haven't really had much time to experiment with the amp sims I purchased from IK, but I'm curious how they might stack up to TH-U?

Over the years most of the Amp Simulations (Including IK-Amplitube) had a lot of fancy pictures but never felt right under my fingers. Overlouds THU rig player looks ugly as hell, but it is the first simulation that acts and behaves like a real guitar tube amp.
You can demo both. IK and THU rig player.

I just had a PT's crash and now I can't get PT's to reboot the session with any of the backups. It stops at the first TH-U instance and it hangs. Obviously, this is a fucking big problem. I'm mad as shit right now.

So whats the cheapest way in here... I am really just interested in the Vintage and maybe the American..... Can you buy just one of those, or do I have to buy say ROCK and then add on the Vintage? Cheers Wiz

Ugh...the Kemper is just soooo quick and easy
There are maybe 10 to 12 guitar tones which I love to play. They are all set up now in my template...
More quick and easy is not possible, just one click away and I hear the sound in my cans...
I never used the Kemeper but the day they showed it to me I disliked the small display.

Well, it's not as quick as the Kemper...I have to plug guitar into Apollo...mute console channel, bring up instance of TH-U, turn off all latent plugs on master channel, Maybe freeze some VIs, Maybe freeze a heavy channel like Drum Bus and then lower buffer. I mean - it's not like the most terrible thing in the world, it's just a hassle after plugging into the Kemper and hitting record. No doubt it sounds good...I'm gonna live with both for a while and see if I can get more used to it.

Yeah-- if you're going to use modeling (or IR cab sims for recording real amps silently), hardware is the way to go from a workflow standpoint.

Unless you have a rig that can run a low buffer all the time, in which case the plug inside the DAW is as easy or easier. Plug in your guitar and go. And you can change amps/settings to your heart’s content ever after if you want.

I have all THU Amps Sounds which I need ready to go in the session.
Guitar is always plugged in.
Choose sound, activate channel.
Hit the low latency button in Logic GO.
Takes me 15 Seconds.

I have to do it somewhat like John. Freeze some things so I can crank the buffer down. Next rig, I’m gonna try to be able to keep the buffer low all the time.

I'm gonna try for world peace with my next rig.
Do you realize that you could do exactly what you're asking RIGHT NOW....on your iMac? Studio One. Cubase. Apps that use a secondary input buffer. With an Apogee Thunderbolt you could probably set Studio One to 32 samples(at single rate) input permanently and process buffer to 1024 or 2048.

I bought a Kemper last year and tweaked on it for days until I finally got what I thought was a killer "foundation" Marshall-esque rock patch. Then I tried it in a live setting in my rock power trio -think Cream without Eric, Jack, or Ginger- and my guitar disappeared in the mix. My tone had no cut, no push. Turning up did no good, there was a lack of definition that was obvious to all- even my drummer noticed. No amount of editing led to improvement. So, not a fan of the Kemper for live guitar. The irony is, my bassist tried it last Saturday and built a killer bass patch, his live tone was the best to date. Yes, the Kemper has its uses, but IMO it is not exactly what its marketed as- an all-in-one solution. To my ears it has a characteristic tonality that cannot be avoided.

thanks man! Looks like there's no financial penalty to buying one of the cheap versions (probably rock or funk for me) and then "upgrading" at a later time to "full" if I dig it. Will probably do that soon. bp
