The free EQ didn't "wow" me but I am shopping their other stuff, because I like some of the other things that person did. A lot. They are on sale right now, like so many other plugins, I think it's 50 or 60 percent off.
How many plugins can one computer hold, I think it's time for a contest.

The free EQ was not very useable for me either. Some of the pres and other compressors I demoed were pretty good. I canβt get over how much I love the LA4. THAT sound on clean electric guitars and bass.

It's a well done BAX eq. Think the controls on a stereo receiver or car radio.
The VCL-4 is so good. 4:1 is an awesome, easy mode drum leveler. 2:1 is great on bass and cleans if you don't want to change the tone that much with a varimu.
The Federal is sick for vibe on electric guitars. Insane crunch and air is possible.

Thanks for the heads up on Fuse folks! I downloaded a half dozen trials and ended up buying the VCL-4 and the VCL-373. The VCL-4 will be a nice alternate to the PSP Fetpressor. The 373 adds serious vintage heft. The half price sale ends on January 10 I believe. Really nice stuff. I'd be curious what owners of Vari Mu hardware such as the Weight Tank (on my wish list) think of the Fuse Vari Mu plug-ins. It's easy to navigate the free trials for testing if anyone is so inclined.

If it isn't, I'm gonna have to buy the next one that comes out that is apparently 6.7% better, because I cant resist and I'm addicted. And then the next 10 that come out after that claiming to be marginally better again, along with reading for countless hours on forums before making my 11 30$ decisions all for the marginal gains.
Alas, plug-in buying has made me cynical..
the enemy of art is absence of limitation... anyone?

I use gear because it sounds good whether it's a plug in or hardware. I loved to discuss ITB OTB questions in the past (big waste of life-time).
Today I know it was a substitute to hide my fear that people may like or dislike my work. It went that far that I missed chances offered by fate. To me it's a shadow discussion, with this I had a reason not to start, not to show my talent.
My goal is to be creative with the tools which I like. If my old ghost / habit comes up I try to coach myself.
One of my questions is. "Would Jack White not using a great sound, invention or plug in because it's digital"
The answer is always "NO".
Why it's Jack White? I met him two years ago and his mindset became some sort of role model for me. We just had 5 Minutes together.
I learned in these 5 Minutes that I need to set my spirit free, I need to go with the flow what ever my mind spits out. Be creative be free.

I'm not sure why people feel the need to constantly trash on plugins, in plugin specific threads. Oh well. You can't win them all.

I'm not sure why people feel the need to constantly trash on plugins, in plugin specific threads. Oh well. You can't win them all. Yup. You can set your watch to it. If plugins makes someone cynical why would they click on this thread? Like many I love ITB and OTB. One thing plug-ins have going for them is the immediacy of testing them out. I can use my own ears to decide whether it will be useful to me or not. In the case of Fuse I landed on two. I almost always wait for sales and largely ignore the sales pitch. I just listen for a couple of days and make a decision. I know plug-ins are not a magic pill that will suddenly make me more successful, but neither is a Coil pre or an UnFairchild.

Fetpressor is weird because it canβt do FET attack and release but can do optical type things with FET sound. The opto compressor in infinistrip is similarly weird

Dig these plugs. Picked up more on sale. The VCL 25a is what I'm using most lately. Fun comp.

Can't address your actual question, but I can WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with your final statement. It's amazing what you can do with a minimal setup when there are no other options. I forget that all the time..... Thanks for the reminder. And yeah, I'm with you on the cynical part. . Still hasn't stopped me from trying, but you'd think I'd learn after adding 30 plugins and only 1 or 2 get used past the first week. LOL. Best of luck in your search!!

Wow! Another creative nugget in this thread that I can wholeheartedly embrace. AMEN to the above!! Whatever sets you loose is where you should head. Music first, audio second. (Although I must say that I often find inspiration in the "sounds" as well as the music)

Damn, I just tried the VCL-4. I've never used an LA-4 and am awaiting a Stam SA-23a+ and wanted to experiment with that flavor.
What a great plug. Bummed I didn't grab it in the holiday sales, not that it's not worth $59.

I immediately liked it on vocals, bass and drum room. Oh also guitar. And piano... I've found it to be one of the better plugin compressors for acoustic guitar, too, FWIW. I mean, it has a vibe, but if that vibe works for your AGs, it's really nice.

The different ratios make it really versatile.
