Hey Shadowk I think in the many years I have been posting here.... I can't recall anyone ever commenting like that on anyone else's work. I was really shocked by it. It was disappointing and if I am frank , a little upsetting to read. I have physically met @svarrt and he is a lovely person, very intelligent and extremely helpful. I have also heard his mixes ... that he has tracked himself... and they are certainly not what I would describe as sub par... although what is sub par anyways...? Isn't every mix fantastic and sub par at the same time....unquantifiable perhaps... I have heard yours and they are really great. We have had so many great people here and it has always been a very safe space to operate in technically and artistic emotionally with people taking the encouragement high road, rather than the criticism low road. I think the reason we have so many of those people like grammy winners, industry legends, million record sellers.. is because of the demeanour with which everyone conducts themselves. IIRC you have been dealing with some very heavy shit....which is terrible....so perhaps some slack cutting is necessary....both to and from you ... take care... reflect....enjoy cheers Wiz No, I'm probably going to get band here but my auntie died from bowl cancer yesterday. Which just say's you have no fucking clue about upsetting IRL, so I said something and offered to help irrelevant of the fiscal cost or impact to me, what do you think everybody knows everything? Are you honestly serious? Are you taking the piss right now? I'd get myself into debt to teach someone but no you have your own dumb grievances.
There's a couple of things despite my thick skin that pisses me off. That's self righteous white nights, hypocritres and selfish people. You are one of a few that has in turn either beaten me, scolded me, treat me like a dog and actually managed to actually fuck me off. How does that feel Wiz? I'm usually completely rational but that really did push the limits. Do one..
Shadow I can't recall ever offending you.. but mate, if I did (which you have mentioned I have beaten, scolded and treated you like a dog) then I am really sorry... I am at a complete loss to recall anything that could even come close to that. Really sorry to hear about your Aunty. I am actually sort of speechless...and honestly a bit shaky after reading that.... again sorry Wiz

Youre confusing or misreading what I’m saying. I have no problem if you like Svarts mixes or not. It’s great to have strong opinions. Good on you for pursuing sonic perfection. My only problem is with your delivery. Your post came off as unnecessarily rude. Maybe I’m misreading you to a degree as well, it’s certainly possible. But what I’m saying has nothing to do with your monitor preferences, what songs anyone likes or doesn’t, who had good or bad mixes. What I’m saying is that the tone of your post came off as brash and unprovoked. Well sorry if it did I'd like to believe I'm more "balanced" than that.. There’s also the ones that treat transient info differently than non-transient stuff. Maybe those are a different thing entirely? Cheers, Geoff The only one I have and use is PROQ3 by fabfilter... I might use it on a bass if there is a note poking out and interfering with something else... and tuck it in like that... cheers Wiz

Its funny, I use the Apollo x8. I read these threads...look at the Apollo .......and think of the past convertors I have had......wonder for a while.....then shrug and say to myself....close your wallet and just keep mixing... LOL cheers Wiz this wasn't meant as a passive aggressive dig ..... not that anyone inferred it was...thinking more along the lines of posting in a thread that I have no dog in the fight in... Just that.. its really easy for me to get swayed (I bet a lot of us are) in reading these threads where people whose work I admire are saying things about the Apollo conversion..... I find my self starting to search on the net and must stop myself...in my life now.. conversion is the last thing I need to spend money on... Just yesterday I was reading the world wide waste of time...and found myself after reading a few threads.. looking for the best price of a guitar pedal..... and nearly bought it... till I looked up on the shelf....AND I ALREADY OWN IT!!!!!! LOL Johnkenn aint the only one... who forgets what he has had... cheers Wiz

Here is the latest one cheers Wiz Do you have a band and gig your material. You have a very attractive easy listening voice, kinda reminds me of the British singer Chis Rea (in a very good way) You would have a great live act - there’s lots of great covers you could through in there too. Do you gig / tour? Hey thanks for the compliment. Yes, I have been a pro gigging muso for over 30 years....and do lots of originals live ... cheers Wiz

www.simplifieramp.comThe simplifier mk 2 I bought one of these....it runs a little cheaper than say the UA pedals like the dream ruby etc I have owned all four of the UA pedals that do the amp thing, and the iridium... they are all gone so I cant direct compare.. but have enough memory to decide... This thing sounds really great... and although its very small ... and has a lot of knobs and switches on it...it ends up being a good size to sit on the desk in front of me... its very flexible....has inbuilt digital reverb and headphones ... the verb sounds very good...can be run in stereo or in dual mono has an effects loop... It has 3 sort of modes... fender Vox and Marshal.....the fender and Vox sound really good.. havent really used the Marshall sound yet. Takes pedals well...and could function as a back up for you amp at a gig.. or indeed be your amp for a gig.. if you have a good stage monitoring setup. Runs off 9v DC and would easily fit on a pedal board. I never really got on with the UA pedals or Iridium... but this I like. Worth demo ing if you have a need. Would be on the fender setting (batsman) probably the best clean sound in one of these device types I have used....and responds well to different guitar/pickup types... cheers Wiz

On my website peterknightmusician.com/musicI have original songs posted up. You can watch YouTube film clips of the songs or listen to mp3 preview to those that don't have music videos. Each one of those songs sessions can be purchase for $5USD. This is directed at people who want to perhaps remix a session, practice, mixing.... maybe add vocals or replace the drums etc etc etc and don't have access to something like this. The sessions are in a zip file which you will be emailed a link to. It also includes the mastered version of the track, so you can mix master and compare to mine. There is a readme file included which gives you all the information you need. These are DAW agnostic. 48Khz 24 bit. You are free to do what you want with the results as long as it is not for commercial purposes. Join the mailing list on my website so you get notified when a new tune comes out... lately about monthly. Happy to answer any questions. cheers Wiz

NOT SO FAST! Look at this video. Here's an audio track with PT click recorded to it. I'm going LINE 3 OUT to a compressor then LINE 3 IN after it has physically made the trip from the back of the apollo to the compressor and then back into PT. I then record the click from the effected track back into PT. I can HEAR latency because I don't have Apollo Console Line 3 Input muted. If I play back and mute the PT channel, I can hear that it's behind and there's obvious latency. When I RECORD it, I get zero latency. Like - it's being compensated...I'm at my wits end. What am I doing wrong? I am having a little trouble following... So is what you are saying that you need to monitor console line 3 to do what you need...? if you monitor the channel being recorded into is that compensated....? Can you mute the console channel..and just monitor the track being recorded which is in time...? cheers Wiz

Every few years, I do the ITB to mixer comparison test, just to do it, and see where things have come. I usually use simple Americana rock tracks, (mostly what I do) that are 24 tracks or less. My guidelines are simply that I will use the exact same gear as inserts, on both the ITB box mix, and the Console mix! If I don't have the same plugs, as my outboard, or vice a versa, then I don't use them. This way a direct (or close to it) comparison can be made. As I said, these are very straight ahead mixes, with not a lot of junk on them. I start with the ITB box mix, and I usually spend a day on it, and return to it in the morning, to make sure it's as good as I want it. And to be honest, I'm usually very happy with the results. Once that's done, I'll start from scratch, buss everything out to the console (or my summing setup, which I've done both) insert the outboard as it was on the ITB mix, set all gear as it was in the other mix, and go.... Once again, no rush, I mix for a day, take my time, and return to it to print the next morning. I print it, and then do the comparisons. As good as I thought the ITB mix sounded, once played against the Console version, there is NO COMPARISON! It's inevitable that the Console version, not only sounds bigger, wider, and just plain better, it also FEELS better! I think it's more visceral, emotional, makes ya wanna move, tap your feet, etc... At least this is my findings, and I've done this almost every year for about 8 years now. Would love to hear the comparison if possible... cheers Wiz

That’s such a pain in the ass lol. Buying old tech feels weird to me too…but that’s definitely a cheaper way to do it. Cubase is sounding nicer by the minute. If Luna would get their act together and do the Hw insert stuff, I’d be there already. or.... ditch the hardware??? Is that a possibility...it's a lot cheaper....what hardware do you HAVE to have to mix? cheers Wiz

Alright, I think I'm getting to a point where I can move forward with this. Of course it's not EXACT but the vibe is close enough for me, and I'm not trying to produce a covers record or anything. drive.google.com/file/d/1PfEsmskjBA2lsb42EwurD7ZKs9tTgo4Y/view?usp=share_linkM201 about 24" away, through 828es pre then cascading into two API pres, each with the 2:1 transformer option to soften things up a bit. Might be a little too much saturation this way. Then UADx with two and a half notches taken out of the high shelf and HPF at 60. Then a bit more surgical cutting at 174 and 535Hz. UADx 1176AE with medium attack and release, 20:1 reducing about 5dB max. Then finished off with UADx Studer A800 - this one's not strictly necessary but fun to play around with. So just like drbill said - dynamic mic into a Neve and then back it up a bit. I think there's a bit too much room tone in this one that you can hear particularly on the bass notes but that's getting real nitpicking. It sounds good. Now, if only we could really determine which dynamic Tom favored in his home studio then I'd be REALLY chuffed. BRB going to try to track down Ryan Ulyate. My future plans include a Heritage 1073 and a Sennheiser 441 rental. Sounds really great Cheers Wiz

Play music into it from an external source and record it….rather than using it as an externally inserted piece of gear…just to isolate the clocking sync issues

In the real world it depends on speaker, room and position, in theory angled. Yes…mine are straight …they sound great in that position….but I built my room from the ground up and spent a lot of time positioning the speakers etc cheers Wiz
