I'm not sure this is in the right place, but Microsoft has evoked an aggravation campaign to get Windows users to upgrade to Windows 10. Personally, I'm not interested in being a bug reporter for M$ and suffering through driver problems for who knows how long. Microsoft has conveniently left out an option to close the task bar Icon in the right-click menu. If you feel the same about avoiding Windows 10, you may open Task Mangler (Manager) and look for the process: "GWX.exe". Right click and select "End Process". Then look for the process "TrustedInstaller", and right-click to select "End Process" from the Menu. You'll need to do that every day until (?) an opt out procedure is in place or someone investigates how to block the "GWX.exe" process from starting.

Guys, you might get a hint what could be improved from reading what Ross did in the MK2. Not much (but important) changes...the 4 layer board...and...yupp...psu. You might get the picture. It's one of the obvious mod targets...Ross himself upgraded it... This said, RM seems not to sell the MK1 anymore anyway. So, the aforementioned modded RM product was the first version?

I've used the Bill Lawrence FT145 since '74 and love it. They still make various newer FT145 versions, but the vintage ones can be found on eBay. It fits in the sound hole.

Unfortunately, you are... But if you make the changes to put more bottom in - I'll take one of these first units without it. I felt extremely confident that I could do some great mixing with the way the one I heard. Clean sounds good to me. I think I could perform surgery better in a clean un-hyped environment.

If it was me (and clearly it's not), I would release what you have. A lot of people would be happy to have anything near RM or Burl stuff. A lot is left to taste at some point. If I had a unit modded to my preferences, then I'm sure something "clinical" would sound foreign.... That said, I just ordered a console and those converters may be fine for me. It's not high end, but I've worked with a lot less and made enjoyable music in past years...

Also the WD 2 TB "My Book" and such are accidents waiting to happen; IMO. I have over 30 of them and have never had one fail. Out of many different disks over many years, that is the only one that lasted less than a year with very minimal use (not full either). I've been informed by several others that they had the same experience. It's great that you have a different experience. I felt safer putting that out there, based on my experience.

One caveat. I had to buy an AsMedia SATA controller card for around $14... The Drive is SATA 3 (6Gbs) and my Mobo is SATA 2 and wouldn't recognize it. Funny thing, an even older Mobo recognized it right away. It's more of a problem of some MoBos to recognize the disk. www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236522Lol, I just saw your "Thread-killer Sig".... I think we all can easily get a thread killer complex.

I basically avoid anything over 2 TB, and do not fill them over 75%.

The WD Black Enterprise HDDs are tops in my book... 7200 RPM 64 MB cache. 2 TB for around $130. USD. The Blues and regular Blacks are not as robust, whereas they are consumer grade. These are what I normally spec if going with a platter drive. I agree. I see those as the best for that format... I do have a reliable Hitachi, but it's no longer available.

This has got to be the most horrible time ever to serve. Hats off to them and those in the past. No ask anybody post Nam, at least now those of us who were not pro war are pro Vet! My brother inlaw's Dr was the one who was the whistle blower about the problems at the Pheonix VA. Yeah, I forgot about that part, making it a miserable existence for the vets. I was mainly referring to the insane rules of engagement these days.

One bust separate the politics from those who serve, our vets and their sacrifices represent everything we want this country to be. The sad part is that no matter what party has been in power the politicians have done a bang up job of not providing for the vets. I totally agree. Every member of my family has served and I feel for the people serving now. They need our, we the people, support. Salute! This has got to be the most horrible time ever to serve. Hats off to them and those in the past.

I've had the same problem for the longest time. I never liked AmpSims, because it seemed there was something wrong with my signal right off the bat. My Jackson was lifeless no matter what interface I plugged it into, and NO amount of processing would help... I bought a REDDI for my bass, but tried the Jackson through it. It was better but still lifeless. So I ordered a mixer a couple of days ago, hoping the signal path would be better. So while disgusted with the REDDI for that ONE guitar, I order caps for an old EMU 1820m. I just put them in yesterday, and tried different things with and without the DI. The 1820m sound slightly better through the Preamp but it was nothing, really. Then I plugged the DI into a line input on the rear, and, viola! The REDDI, EMU, and Jackson were alive, together for the first time. So now I'm certain that my other interfaces have some bad components in them. Don't have the new mixer yet, but I've been missing my Fender Amp, so building an Amp chamber, will hopefully get me where I want to be for happy recording. Just my troubles for consideration...

I didn't address this, but to use a router, you would need an NAS enclosure or a file server computer, where Linux is a less "forbidding" OS in that regard. Unless you get a disk with a built in network connection or a router with a USB connection.

That's just it...I'm going to buy something...might as well be something really good. b1 - I assume by workflow you're talking about never recording 10 things at a time or something of that nature? I wondered if it would make stuff like bouncing offline faster...I would also think you wouldn't get DAE errors as much (Drive can't keep up)...However, I rarely get those anyway. If you get any disk write errors whatsoever, if I were you and the opportunity arose to upgrade, I would definitely go with the "latest/greatest" Thunderbolt SSD. As for networking your disks (simply to access files), you can dedicate a lower power computer as a file server. Or if you have a NAS setup (network attached storage), you can do the same, without another OS in the path to those files. Plug and play, as it were.
