Every day is a "dry" day here. How else am I supposed to afford more gear??? "My drug is music", he says.

Wife and I do 2 dry months every year. It’s usually a moving target for when it will be, but we make it happen. This is honestly a great idea. I can see where it would be useful.

Does anyone ever do this? Yesterday, no bourbon or any kind of whiskey. I'm not a savage, I had wine with supper . . . but no bourbon. No. Never.

I mean - look - I’m not an alcoholic... I think LOL. I barely remember the night the dog ate the couch. That was years ago. I haven't improved. Have you?

Most people are consumed with politics these days. The unrest that politics brings with it allows little time for enjoying art of any kind. This whole world is at a tipping point and music just doesn't factor in. It's not you, it's just the way things are.

I agree with the above comment, it’s cheating. AA is the only way I’ve ever been able to record stereo and be satisfied. Glad to give Soundradix my money.

I’d have to say the V Drums/SD3 setup. As a dude that just records his own music because he wants to, drums have always been a challenge. I love mic’ing/using acoustic drums and I’ve lugged them all over this state to various rooms and scenarios to get something cool tracked. But I’m in school and have two little kids. Those hours of mic’ing/lugging/being super loud don’t exist anymore. And when I’m done with school I’ll be working as an EE. Not really gonna have that time then either. The fact that I can take a break from studying and be tracking drums in 30 seconds, seamlessly punching into whatever track I’ve been working on, getting my actual drumming tracked, silently, is mind blowing. It would be a revelation for me even if the sonics were just passable. The fact that they’re the best drum sounds I’ve ever gotten make it absolutely amazing. Which kit version did you go with, Ragan?

SNIP Dolly and Kacey had that difficult balance down perfectly. SNIP I kinda wonder if lordalvin might borrow/rent @jstieger's Dolly for the next Kacey Musgraves' record. Everything about Kacey is amazing, especially that voice. OMG, that voice . . . just melts me. There's a few things besides Kacey's voice that melts me. She sure aint hard to look at. But she can sang, too.

Well then, after I picked my jaw up off my chest, I listened again a couple more times. Blackbird. Well, I have heard this mic before and it sounds exactly as I remember. Nearly perfect Dolly. Yeah, this might be the most perfect mic ever made. Upton. Extremely close to both the above but a lot darker. I was surprised at how much darker it was than expected. But amazingly smooth!! Wavey. Honestly, made my ears pop and eyes bug out, to double-check which I was listening to. Korby. Well, I wouldn't buy it. It is a nice mic, but doesn't really work like a 251. JMHO AA. Was this microphone broken? Warm. Not as complete a disaster as I was expecting, maybe even usable in cardioid. There are some others that could have been in on this . . . but this was certainly extremely helpful, and I have to wait and see how production units of Dave Wheeler/Eric Heiserman's collaboration turn out! Maybe I need to get my ears checked. Didn’t hear the Upton as darker than Dolly. I wouldn't say you need to get them checked. Your mixes are usually on the brighter side which is a good thing. I'm convinced we all hear things slightly differently. Any of the mics that were in that shootout are more than usable I think. One stands out on one voice, one on another. But any of them can make a record.

Sorry, cowboycoalminer . I started to try and just move the bourbon posts and it would have just made the whole thing confusing. Repost that question on the main board if you want. Naw it's fine. Bourbon and audio gear go hand in hand.

Couple of 47's and a Yamaha C7 for sale from the Tracking Room Sale How much are they asking for the C7 John? I'm guessing 30k. Probably cost you 10k to truck it across country, Bill.

I haven't bought anything new in ages. Almost jumped a couple times at AMS 1081 pair but couldn't pull the trigger. But I think I'm about ready to fall off the wagon. Help me spend some money. Any recommendations?
What roles aren't already filled by existing tools?
What issues exist with current tools that could be improved?
Are there less obvious underlying infrastructure issues that need attention?
What's the budget?
What roles aren't already filled by existing tools?Nothing really. Just gassing. What issues exist with current tools that could be improved?Fair question. Mics? Are there less obvious underlying infrastructure issues that need attention?Well I'm about half deaf these days. That could be an issue. What's the budget?Donald Trump money.

If you don’t have a bricasti, get one. If you do have one, get another! Had one. Sold it. Honestly didn't miss it much. Strangely I guess. Everyone else raves about it.

Never had Pappy...I’ve heard some say it’s fantastic and some say it’s overrated. Been drinking a bottle of Woodford Double Oaked that’s really good. Love Angels Envy, Jefferson and Weller of course, but there’s nothing wrong with a $25 bottle of Bulliet or Rittenhouse. Bulleit Rye is my staple. Oaky, cheap, good. Since this has turned into an alcoholics anonymous thread , Wild Turkey 101 hasn't let me down in years. If Turkey is too much alcohol, Eagle Rare is my next choice. 80 proof and tastes identical to Turkey. Probably my favorite honestly.

SNIP I still find that Melodyne takes some top end off. Feels less open to me. I find that interesting, actually. More and more, I find myself rolling off top-end on everything in my mixes as the top end from all the vintage gear doesn't have tape to tame it. I know, I'm being all grandpa on y'all, but I'd like to keep my hearing for another 50 years, so I guess I might be a little overly sensitive to it. But there's a lot of distortion in the high end (10-20K) and it hurts your ears. JMHO. I am strongly considering going down the melodyne rabbit hole again. You ain't gonna be around in 50 years you old goat. Who you trying to kid???

Actually, think I like the top end of the Helios more than the 84 or the 73 I think the Helios is the best model they've done, too. By far my favorite.

I have an Operating Room Nurse who is a friend of mine back in the Cincinnati market were we use to live. 2 months ago when this thing first started, the major hospital she worked at completely shut down the OR floor and converted every bed on that floor to a Covid unit. Not only that, but they instructed ALL the OR nurses that they were to part ways with their families and the hospital rented several houses and was to put 4 nurses in each house during the pandemic.
Day 1 on the Covid unit... all nurses show up with all their PPE on and waited. Not one patient showed up.
Day 2 My friend and ALL the other OR nurses was laid off and sent home without pay.
Update... the OR floor is still empty and she's yet to go back to work, nor has any of her colleagues.
As for me, I've went to work everyday and not much has changed for me. I've asked the hundreds of people I work with if they know of anyone effected by Covid directly. The answer is always no.
I know know of no one myself. Can this be explained to me???

I always heard that if you start before noon, that makes you an alcoholic. So I use to wait until 12:01 to start. However recently, I've seen my follies in that thinking. I've got to admit that beer goes really well with bacon and eggs.

You're right but it wouldn't have mattered in the least if the whole world was screaming to the top of their lungs about a virus. It would have had zero airtime. The press knew about this when the government did (back in November). The impeachment hearings started on Dec 4th. And it was wall to wall, 24/7, even before that really when congressmen where holed up in a basement asking questions. No room for anything else on the news, nothing. Politics aside, I'm guessing we'd be hard pressed to find a single lawmaker on either side who actually gives a rats ass about us. Politics is the biggest business in town. Congressmen don't make enough in their salaries to become multi-millionaires yet most of them are. Hmmm, wonder why??
