what do you think about using the Harball Lola on the 2. like you would a vp28 or missing link. the output transformer on it is supposed to be based on the one used in a neve console. would it give you the same effect as the capi's only neve flavor over api. the biggest difference, and the reason i ask is because they seem to work a bit differently where the vp28 attenuates and the lola only has make up gain.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate it. Can i ask how hot you run your signals in +4 environment. For ex. My lola pre has a +4 marker on led meter crossover point. Would you run hot enough to hit it or is it supposed to be peak. I dont understand the different db levels u/v etc. I have always tried to keep my levels between -18 and -14 on my daw meters protools 10. Thanks

i always assumed there was no difference between the inputs on my jbl lsr28p's, but hooking up my rossmartin dac i needed a longer cable for my left speaker and only had an xlr to trs. when i plugged it in i thought the right channel wasnt working. after a while i realized it was, but it was way quieter so it sounded like everything was coming out of the left channel. the trs channel.
it seems like if anything it should be the other way around.
i ended up moving it closer so i could a/b between trs and xlr and i thought trs was better, but it was so much louder it was hard to match because i only have two outs and i had to change cables out every time.
any info/advice on this. i would really appreciate it.

that explanation was so lame its actually bothering me now.... he coincidentally used surface mount instead of through hole like his other op-amps. he coincidentally made a vintage and a clean one. and the vintage one coincidentally came back red and the clean one blue. thats a lot of happy coincidences bundled into one little package.

i respect your opinion but do you feel the same about dave thomas and stellar. im sure he put just as much care and passion (probably much more) into his microphone "cm" 47. then stellar comes out with the exact same microphone minus the secondary cathode-follower circuit, for half the price, and calls it the "cm" 6. why? because thats the mic its emulating. if it was emulating an sm7 im sure they would have called it the "sm" x. to me it would be much worse if they called it something completely different and played it off like an original idea.
Mr. thomas emulated a great product to deliver quality at an affordable price. Stellar found a cheaper way to get it to the people. Api have a great product. jeff found a cheaper way to get it to the people (to all our benefit). Scott found a cheaper way to get huntington 2520's to the people. whistle rock found a cheaper way to get red dots to the people. i dont want to disparage any of these people, especially jeff hes my hero. but none of them invented these products. they all copied other peoples work. its like getting upset at creedance for covering marvin gays version of a smokey robinson song written by Strong and Whitfield. they're all great versions, as are all these clones.
btw "mr whistlerock" is not a random goofball. hes a diyer from prodigy. ubk shot his original ml2520 against the red and the gar a long time ago. i think it was before vp26 even came out. thats what led me to his website in the first place. i preferred the ml2520 over the others in the clips ive heard. in fact im pretty sure jeff knows him and has tried his stuff in his own gear before. hopefully this thread will reach him and well find out what the scoop is.

The use of the words red and blue are not arbitrary, he jumped right on the coat tails of our friend and fellow RGO member Scott Liebers, who indeed made the arbitrary names red/blue dots a household name for audio nerds like myself, not exactly what I'd call cool.... I dont have a problem with it at all. Red dots arent diy. Theyre comercial products. They dont deserve the same good faith. Especially at that apparent mark up. Thats just commerce. Its not like micnmod. Unless of course its an exact copy.... Theres nothing wrong with naming your product after what its emulating. If didn't name it red how would we know what they were emulating.

its mostly surface mount just like the red dots. they come mounted already too so no special skills required.

Do tell... by "ergonomic" you don't mean a mouse and plugin do you? Haha!!! Nope. You won't get off so easy. It's a big azz piece of hardware for you patriots and will cost enough to make you wish you didn't HAVE to buy it. But you will. We all will. 2 vp's = about $700. sb4000 was about $600 for me, and 2 ez's is like 1800. so roughly $3000. do you think this combo will end up cheaper than your new box. p.s. is it time for the unavailing yet?
