Congrats man! Down here in argentina it's been legal since 2010. In fact, the first couple to be married is getting a divorce... But all kidding aside, civil rights for everyone is the way to go!!

maybe, this is nonsense, but can it be used followed by jsteiger's 2 ACA BO for some 2520 and tranny love? or should this and a pair of vp28s be good enough?

Ok, so even though I didn't have the time for it, I got really curious about this song and I gave it a go in between today's schedule. First, I'll echo everyone and say: amazing voice, man!! Nice song, very well tracked.. All I missed was something to help the payoff of the chorus, arrangement-wise. Regarding the mix, I didn't have time to listen to any other mixes, so I just hope I don't make a fool out of myself! And if I do, I hope to learn something from it. RMS should be about right, but i didn't print the rough, so i could really compare.. It was really fun mixing it. I don't get to mix this genre often and I really enjoyed it. At times, I found myself just listening to the music. Niiice!! Here's the mp3 www.dropbox.com/s/0gzrkh25xilc203/Fool%20me%20once%20Bluenoise.mp3?dl=0And here's the 96/24 wav www.dropbox.com/s/fb7yb18dy3vkqnw/Fool%20me%20once%20Bluenoise.wav?dl=0Thanks a lot, man. PS: how's the little lady doing? First things first 8) thanks so much for asking about my daughter Rikki, she is doing really great thanks. Back at 2 of her 3 part time jobs, and is back to university in July. She is driving again, and apart from an overprotective father 8) she is doing great. She and I actually worked at the same place last Friday night and I was proud as punch. I was playing in the band , and she was working in the restaurant section, we got a photo taken together.. my little girl working at the same place as me... and I didn't even embarrass her 8) much...8) Again, I got something creative out of this.. delays. It shows that the song could use something, in that area to help the song shine. I really liked the snare sound in this mix... care to elaborate? I liked how you moved the Les Paul Solo to the LHS for that section, that was good mixing I reckon...I was surprised no one had done that before. Good overall balance of things in this.. and pretty close to how I would put them.. Just the backing vox a little too hot. great stuff and thanks for asking about Rikki, means a lot. cheers Wiz Hi there Wiz! That was fast!! Great to hear Rikki is doing fine! I'm a father too and I could only imagine what it would be like to be in your shoes... Tough for sure. Fifth time lucky, man. Go give her another hug if she lets you.. Here's a pic of minime at the studio.. Back to the mix. Thanks for your kind words! It feels like a huge pad on the back.. Thanks. The delay was a happy mistake, i guess. I had set it for the chorus and when i got to the verse, it jumped out. so, it was just a matter of automating it to help the lyrics ("beat", "empty house", ping pong on the "come and go", "on and on"..) I'm not at the studio, so this is off the top of my head. I remember taming some 400/450 ringing on the snare. A tad EQ (some 12k, 1,6k and perhaps a little 200 with the hp on) with a 1073 (waves one), and a needle kissing 1176 rev A (waves as well). Reverb is valhalla room. The BV were purposefully a bit hot. To try to embiggen (to quote Jebediah Springfield) the beginning of the chorus. It does spoil the intimate sphere of the song, though. Anyhow, thanks for letting us participate in this. It's really helpful and educational to have your mixes examined by judicious ears! Cheers, Martin

I've built a 500 rev A. Sounds really nice. I've never heard an original blue stripe though, but i have worked with many different blackfaces (urei, ua, etc). To me, it sounds and behaves like an 1176. A tad grittier, even brighter in a way. The 2:1 ratio is really handy come tracking time cuz it gets a bit grabby quite easily. I like it a lot on vocals, but im not exactly discovering anything.. If you want to, i could run some files through it... How is it on bass? Hi nick. To be honest, I haven't used it much on bass. For bass duties, I'm more partial to optos and/or distortion if suitable. Since you asked I tried it and I liked it. But, being that my unit is a rev A and that it distorts quite easily (since i left out a specific resistor) it get gritty rather fast. That being said, it's a really nice compressor overall. Really 1176, which may or may not be your thing.. Cheers!

Even though I'm booked solid for the next few weeks (I won't complain!) I will try to give it a go. Sounds like an amazing learning (humbling) experience!

Great responses everyone!
To me it's all about movement (sonically) and speed (workflow). The interaction of all that's going on at the same time being affected by one single stage makes it all move together to my ears. Of course, by the same token, you can EASILLY f**k it all up in no time. Regarding workflow, it gets me there faster. And i like fast when mixing. It kind of prevents me from overthinking it and thus harming it.
I'll eventually unpatch it, but for me, 95% of the time it is on, either just kissing it, or going for it at 3/4 db of GR.
I'm team slow attack, fast attack never did it for me.. I need those transients i guess.
Keep them coming!

Hi guys, I want to build a simple passive A/B switch to easily try out/swap 2 different amps, using the same guitar or turning it around and be able to A/B 2 guitars with the same amp. I was looking for schematics online and came across this: www.fulltone.com/sites/default/files/manuals/fultone-a-b-switcher.pdfIt seems perfect for my needs, right? And, the last question, all grounds (sleeves) go together, right? Thanks in advance, my electronics knowledge doesn't go too deep at all.

I am almost finished with building the Sound Skulptor MC624. I am very impressed with the feature set and the layout. Hi there keymod, I'm considering building one of those MC624, how do you like it? and, if you don't mind me asking, how expensive/complicated was to have it shipped to the states?

In the plugin world, I'm using valhalla room a lot lately. Really subtle in a "real/natural" kind of way if it makes any sense... i tried valhalla shimmer a couple of days ago for weird ginormous theatrical spaces and it got the trick done, but i need more time with it to be able to tell more about it.

I'll also go for separate room, but in an ideal situation, GOOD visual lines are a must. I currently work in a studio where the control room and the big live room are separate with no sight lines and sometimes it gets in the way of communication.

I've dealt with joshua, the owner, many years back, when he was living in argentina. I was buying a 002 from him. After giving him a downpayment (since the 002 was allegedly in chile) he went silent and it took me a lot of grief and hardwork to get that money (well, most of it) back. Maybe, he has changed his ways in the time being, but i cannot recommend him as a vendor.
Just my .02 cents..

Hi guys, since there's no specific thread about them i thought i might as well start one.. I own 4 of them. Dig 'em a lot. gar2520/gar1731 being my favourite config. Haven't tried blue or red dots, though. To my ears, 2520/1731 sound a tad wider and perhaps even half a db louder. When i tried them, i thought the difference would not be that big. Even our drum doctor noticed it. I use them for tracking as much as i can and on the 2 buss pre compressor. Do you use them? How? Like them? Hate them? Chime in!

I could never keep up with a running routine. I always got bored before tired and finished beforehand. I came across boxing by chance and found it to be an amazing exercise. You get a lot of cardio action, and it is a lot of fun. You can always picture that problem client istead of the bag..

I use it a lot to smash room tracks. Really vibey and it "moves" really musically. For $29 it's a steal

Hey jsteiger, even though some might not know what "your gear" is, i've been tracking on a 1608 and i can honestly say the vp28 are, to say the least, on the same league. I couldn't a/b the two, but i missed the manliness of your preamps. Just saying...

I'm not really sure what the difference in VCA and Group is...anyone have an answer? I don't know if it's implemented the same way it works in pro tools, so it might differ. In PT, vca faders are actually groups, but they work differently than traditional groups. All of the "group functionality" happens at the vca fader, while individual tracks remain unlinked. I find them really handy, specially for automations since the vca layer doesn't overwrite the individual channel automation, it adds it on top.
