So what's the thing? I see a studio name in the topic, but I don't see a product name anywhere in your posts. UAD Ocean Way

There is a $300 cap for WUP on your account. $300 would get all your Waves to AAX. Yes, but $300 is a WUPPING amount of money. You can get half a Warm 1176 for that...

I've got CLA, but I don't want to pay the WUP or whatever it's called... I think you don't have to pay WUP, as long as you don't upgrade to another version or another computer. That said, I'm also not a fan of Waves' politics, smells like a rip-off. I bought the Renaissance bundle long time ago but I don't use it anymore after I bought a new computer and couldn't transfer it without paying WUP. I mainly used the RBass Bass Enhancer and I found other solutions for that. I really like the UAD 1176 collection and I'm eagerly awaiting my Proreplicas Rev. D

Are they really doing that over there, Dan? I'm not at all surprised, but damn, how incredibly underhanded. I know I've shared this before, but I'll share it again. I feel like I "told it like it was" over there (it got me banned) and they definitely didn't like me asking why posts were being deleted and manufacturers were moderators. It REALLY got under my skin in a thread I started about CAPI products. There was one gear pimp moderator openly bad-mouthing the product (which he didn't use and didn't carry) and another deleting posts. Then the final straw was them moving it to a totally different forum to try and make it go away. Anyway, I noticed - twice as a matter of fact - that no one was responding to any of my posts. I remember asking Littlesicily if he saw my posts - and he didn't. So, I emailed a mod and they said something like, "oh, so sorry - it's fixed now." Then when corresponding with Tony Arnold, we figured out the same thing was happening to him. I'm not a big conspiracy theory guy - but I figured there was something to it. So - I end up starting this forum after they banned me over there. (I got banned for posting a new UAD2 never opened still in the cellophane in the classifieds...they argued that it wasn't new, and I explained that it was and reposted...I was a bit perturbed at that point). One of the things that I learned was that as a moderator, you can "ghost" people - where no one else but them see their posts. So, that's what they were doing to me and Tony. Just some dirty, dirty shit going down over there. And that's just the half of it. +1. Their ethics have become very questionable, to put it politely. I always wondered why, in some threads, I saw people answering to posts that didn't exist.

Abe, great to see you here. Yes, I love my PIE, as I said, I can live with the scratchy pots, once they're set and I start to run signal through it, I don't have to move them anymore. The noise on my unit is not a problem if I keep the gain below 16, which is enough form most applications. Recently I found that I could go about two notches higher and the noise was still tolerable.
My PIE sound very sweet and I wouldn't use anything else on acoustic guitars. It's also great for vocals; on drums, mine sounded good but not as grabby as an 1178 or an SSL type, which I prefer. But that's just me. All in all, I can highly recommend it, especially if you can build the kit (which I can't, I'm a useless DIYer).

Actually, the SSD4 player converts midi files from other companies automatically. I've been converting manually by changing the Toontracks directory names to fit the Slate structure. For high-level directories add an extension of .lib, next level add .sng, and next level add .prt. For anything but a trivial groove library, there are hundreds of renames, it takes me a couple of hours for each library. Once I've renamed the libraries, I can use the SSD4 map convertor. If I don't do these renames, SSD4 doesn't find the Toontrack groove libraries. Levon (or anyone), can you please tell me how to convert Toontrack files automatically for use in SSD4? I have about 5 more Toontrack libraries to convert, you would save me many hours of work. Google is usually my friend, but I can't seem to find anything about converting automatically. Help!!! I do it song by song, I drag the midi file into my project (in Logic - and I use Toontrack, for instance, to audition the grooves if I use Toontrack grooves). Then I insert SSD4 on that track and there you can tell it (on the mapping page, I think) which original software the midi files comes from (Superior, Addictive Drums, BFD etc). SSD4 then uses the mapping of the original software to play the midi files. I'm not in my studio right now, so I can't exactly tell you where in SSD4 this is, but there's always RTFM

I have one from the original batch, I love it on acoustic guitars, it's just beautiful. I tried it on drums but preferred other comps for that role, acoustic instrument is where it shines. The downside is that it is a bit noisy over a certain gain level (at least on mine) and the pots are crackling (is that a word?) and don't always click into place, if you know what I mean. So the build quality is not always super high, but I can certainly live with it because the sound is great.
If Abe offers a kit and you are versed in DIY, you can probably upgrade to better pots and get a great comp at a decent price.
Abe has changed some components for the later models and I don't know how these compare to mine. I have also never used a real PYE, I saw the rare one popping up for sale over the years but the prices are ridiculous.

Who needs awards anyway? They're all rigged That said, I want a Grammy
I'd settle for a Sta-level. Or even a toaster! Cheers, Geoff I have a toaster. Sta-Level? Hmmm.... You can buy a toaster and a Sta-Level, but you can't buy a Grammy. Oh wait....

... One thing I did notice with SSD4 is, sometimes when I use ez grooves with SSD4 it misses either a tom or cymbal. Then I have to manually move it. Yes, I noticed that too, but it's no big deal for me. I often mute the cymbals and hihats anyway and play them live, that sounds more natural to me.

And if you lot keep this up, you can count on not being voted "forum of the year" by the CCMA. There goes the Dove award!! Who needs awards anyway? They're all rigged That said, I want a Grammy

A nice thing about Platinum Samples is that the grooves come in several formats for SSD4, EZDrummer, BFD2, Superior Drummer, Addictive Drums, etc. The grooves from the individual companies, such as Toontrack, can be a real pain to set up to work with the SSD4 player. Fairly easy, but very time-consuming. Actually, the SSD4 player converts midi files from other companies automatically.

Levon, I didn't mean the grooves with the Platinum SSD kits. I meant Platinum Samples, which is a midi grooves company, nothing to do with Slate. I mis-remembered the name Platinum Grooves instead of Platinum Samples, sorry about that. Here is their website: www.platinumsamples.com/index.phpAh, right. Thanks for the link, I'll have a look

I use an old Yamaha DTK10 kit when I'm recording a drummer. The DTX module sounds more than good enough for tracking with no latency, but I also record a midi track. Then I use the best sounds I can find from the various SSD and EZX libraries. I'm not a drummer, so for myself I'll quickly go through the SSD, EZX, and Platinum Grooves midi libraries and find something that fits. Then I tweak it as needed. I've found the Platinum Grooves midi libraries to be the ones that usually have stuff closest to what I want. That's what I do too. I like the Toontrack grooves, they can be easily tweaked and are played well. I also love the Slate Drums, especially the Platinum kits, but I realized that his grooves are all quantized. I figured that out after I used them in a song and had to manually un-quantize it. Maybe Steven can chime in here?

Yeah - I'm pretty positive you can trigger it with just about any electronic drumset...I've seen the EZ kits go for as low as $39...check ebay too. The two I use a lot for more Eagles/Ryan Adams type stuff are The Indie Pack and The Classic. I know Chris Whitten (Chrisso) designed The Classic - maybe someone can invite him over. He joined initially, but for his own reasons has not participated. I would love to have him over, because I really love his playing and this pack... ...and he knows what he's talking about. +1 for Chris.

If you just align the OHs, wouldn't they than be 'out of sync' with the snare and tom mics? I could imagine it would be better to align everything to the snare for instanced. Am I completely off track here?
I tried this plugin on a bass that was tracked with 2 mics and it made it better. Not day and night, but it got tighter and you could definitely hear that.

Noah, how do you like that retro eq? I'm looking at that for stereo buss duties. The Retro lives on my stereo buss, love it. If you look for thickness and color, this is it. If you need transparency, look elsewhere.

As this place gets bigger, you're bound to get more of these characters, good thing he left voluntarily. He's better off at GS, equal among equals (to say it in a civilized manner). Someone here once suggested not to invite too many people and I can completely understand his reasoning. On the other hand, I also understand that John needs traffic on this site. Unless we're all prepared to pay a monthly subscription fee. Peace in the house has a price.

Yesterday I sent email to Ward with question about joining to the test here, with 1176 ProReplicas rev. A, but I didn't get answer. Maybe he does not have time or does not want, we can not judge in advance. I also is curious of my unit rev. A in these comparisons. Soon Levon will be have ProReplicas revision D (in version on request - with original transformers UA-5002 and UTC O-12) so probably he will do a test and join here. Levon; you have to wait a little longer, correct execution of the inscriptions on front panels in my location, I see, that is really problematic. I checked the three companies, and in each I was treated unprofessionally. I think, that on half of next week these inscriptions will be finally done (also will already logo ProReplicas). Robert Darowski, www.proreplicas.comDon't worry Robert, I rather wait and get a great product. Yes, I asked Robert to use the original trannies instead of the Anderson ones, I'm very curious how that turns out. When I get my unit, I'll run the OP's file through it.

That'd be cool, gonna need some snow shoes and huskies!! 8) Are you guys still snowed in? We're having a pretty mild winter over here for a change. No snow at all. Thank God. But.... it's not over yet... Edit: Just read about that snowstorm coming up in Washington. Wow, you are hit quite hard this winter. Hope everyone is okay.

Thanks for the invitation Thomas. I'm new here but I guess some people will know me from the-site-that-shall-not-be-named If anyone has any questions for me I'll be happy to answer them. Cheers, Pete Great looking stuff man. These desks look like they cost WAY more than my console though. Well, the panels certainly aren't too expensive. Don't know what a desk would be, especially if you have to ship it transatlantic, but those side panels are certainly affordable. And my X-Desk will look way more expensive than it was, lol.
