There is a plugin that adds a sound with a mix knob, so you can blend it in. I dont know the name of it, but it generates all kinds of sounds and the acoustic drums trigger it in the track...I’ll try and see if I can hunt down the name of it. It’s a filter/tone generator plugin, very cool, quick and easy. You can even edit the sounds it’s triggering.

This tune still sounds fantastic. Killer when the drums come in at the end. Masterpiece.

What kind of industrial are we talking about, here? I see different people using the term to mean different things that would all have quite different drum sounds.
For example it could be something like NIN or it could be more like this:
Or this:
Or a lot of other things, really. Do the customers provide a reference track?

Usually when I've had this request, they want something like NIN or something like crushed distorted drums but then they don't want them to lose their impact. It doesn't veer towards the example you posted, where they could be electronic drums. They want analog-dirty-crunchy with impact. But you never know! Asking for a reference track is a very good idea, I'll make sure to do that anytime something like this crops up

I would use the 80s gated reverb sound on snare for sure as a kind of starting point. I probably heard it too often in the 80s and therefore have not much love for it, but I think it fits industrial music very well. YMMV. You will find a ton of tutorials how to create this somehow iconic snare sound. If it sounds like a crappy sample, it is done right, I guess. (OK, not serious...LOL.)

Early industrial uses industrial sounds for drums. Who might have thought of this... ;-) Like "Einstürzende Neubauten" did it 85 on "Halber Mensch" etc., to give an example of the sounds used. IMHO - I think it is about mangling and distortion, not about making it sound fine or subtle, like it has been made with expensive gear, but coarse and, yeah, somehow "cheap". Of course YMMV.
