Well would you look at that. Curious how close it gets, although I believe most, if not all EQ has been nailed ITB

Been using the beta's for well over a year now. It's very, very good for a plugin. That said, I still use the hardware as well....

like somebody else has said somewhere I wonder if Silver Bullet is in the working Although that would clash with the whole purpose of the Silver Bullet - to easily incorporate some outboard iron into those studios where most of the mixing is done in the box. (I'm a happy owner!)

Using the hardware to track, and for most of my filtering duties - of which there are MANY, many during mix - I'm using the plugin mostly for those. How close?
Haven't really A/B'd them in that respect. Happy to use the plugin during mixes.

As someone who believes very strong in HW its hard to believe that you have not AB ed it to the real deal. I love HW too but sometimes some plug ins ca do it too....
I ask myself if this one is in that range too...

I've A/B'd extensively to the hardware over the last year....three different Chop Shop 500 series units be exact. Oh man am I sick of A/B'ing it to the hardware and taking frequency response measurements... As I've said in the past - if it's not good enough to be in my studio it's sure as hell not good enough to be in anyone else's. I'll warn those of you who will inevitably want to compare to the hardware and post A/B clips. The plugin was tweaked to emulate the average response of two specific golden units from the very first run that I have in my possession. Each and every hardware unit has a slightly different response due to the tolerance of potentiometers and capacitors especially. The "schematic" we built the plugin from takes some of these tolerances into account. The plugin sits perfectly in-family with those two golden units. I was actually really surprised how difficult it was for me to distinguish the plugin from the hardware especially in the mix. I think you guys be stoked. It feels like a Chop Shop. Brad

When it comes to comparisons, I'm a touchy feely kind of guy - I'm not really an A/B scientist kind of guy. I prefer to just grab it, try it, and if it makes me feel good, move forward instead of testing and A/B-ing. I leave that to the rocket scientists. That said, Brad will no doubt get around to doing a variety of direct comparisons on video cause he IS a rocket scientist. I'm pretty sure he's ON IT! The first iterations of the plug sounded very good, but not exactly the same -- then they started getting closer and closer, and I lost interest in the A/B thang cause they were close enough for me. I'm not going to do freq measurements like Brad. I could care less if the boost cut are at 10:00 vs. 10:15 or 1:30 vs 2:00 on the plugin as compared to hardware. (One thing to keep in mind is that the hardware Chop Shop is uber clean and not really designed to impart tube or transformer mojo by design. It's designed to do it's job uniquely and with accuracy and transparency - so maybe the plugin can get closer? I dunno. I find the saturation type of hardware is more difficult to accurately emulate as compared to uber clean hardware.) At any rate, the plug in CS is killer. But by all means, PLEASE grab the plugin on demo and do some comparisons. I'll be all ears and interested. <thumbsup> The best strength of this particular plug for ME - in is that for MIXING, I need a lot of filters, and I find the CS plugin unique and great sounding with it's tunable resonant bump. Also for speed, focus is hard to beat. If I had rack space for 20-30+ of them, maybe I would use the hardware, but I'm 100% cool with the plugin version during mixing. For tracking I'm all over the hardware CS. I'll save my hybrid DA/AD 96 channels of conversion for stuff that is intended for mojo-izing. CS plug does the job I need it to do!!! Try it.

I partnered with Plugin Alliance so they can focus on the videos and I can focus on designing new gear...like that other top secret thing we were discussing the other day. Brad

Just got it.,. Cool... looking forward to giving the chop shop plugin a go! This will probably be a no brainer purchase for me. I have been looking at the 500 series units for a while but I’m running low on space for Outboard so this new plugin will fit the bill

I jumped all over the Xmas Chop Shop special. The tilt does the same thing to snare that I love about the Stage 2.

I've got a dozen EQ's I hardly use. I'm curious how much difference another EQ can make. I have almost every Waves EQ, (I used to like the SSL a little) Apple's API and Pultec's are OK, as are UAD's. I have Eventide's Ultra Channel, Newfangled Equivocate, Soundtoys Sie EQ, I bought Elysia's EQ a long time ago and still can't figure out how to use it. I pretty much just use Logic's channel EQ, High Pass a little and on rare occasions, scoop out a particularly nasty spot on a lead vocal.
What differences do you guys think the Chop Shop would make? I'm open to trying new things.

I'm open to trying new things. Chop shop is cool. If you’re talking about the Museq, try the lead vocal preset. For me, it’s become pretty essential. There’s a decent one for a master too. Pairs well on vocals with Dangerous Bax male vocal preset with Museq first. Usually I don’t need to adjust much. Hopefully I’ll have time to decide between chop shop, Harrison 32, and Cambridge. I don’t use a ton of eq. Other main ones are Bx SSL E, Neve DFC on the master, Stoneeq4k, and Softube Trident A-range or Tube Tech. I’d use the DFC more if not limited by DSP. That thing just sounds tremendous. The biggest problem with the Elysia is the GUI. Not intuitive at all.
