Yeah so back on topic...I’m 4 days from the demo being over. Need to just go ahead and buy it.

Anybody having trouble with Systemwide? I am using Cubase with RME AES outputs. The plugin works great inside Cubase, but Systemwide won't respond after I shut down Cubase and try to use it to listen to Youtube songs. I also think, but could be wrong, that when I had it on it was effecting my playing due to latency it introduced. I can always just import reference songs into Cubase and send them to a separate Stereo Mix bus with the plugin on so I can hear it through the plugin. So, it's not that big of a deal.

I couldn’t get Systemwide to work. Shot an email to them and received a few things to try, but haven’t had the time yet. FYI, Sample Magic AB plug-in is a great tool to use for reference tracks within a DAW. I think Plugin Alliance has something similar as well.

This is the response I got from my studio using my Dynaudio LYD48 monitors. I know all the major problems are with the room and not the speakers. I used to think the speakers sounded near perfect but after a week of using Sonarworks, they just sound odd and wrong without the software. That huge dip was the cause of many mixing struggles for me. I put this on some old mixes and instantly could hear what was wrong. I kept adding 80hz to the bass to get it full sounding. Little did I know, the room was never going to let me hear it correctly. I may play with speaker placement again at some point but for now, this is really working great. I was definitely skeptical before I started using it, but I'm sold on it now. Yes, I'd rather have a perfect room but that isn't something that can happen in the near future. This was the best $300 I've spent in a long time.

I think I've officially been pushed over the edge and want to buy this.
Question: How do the speaker and headphone modes interact? Do you have to switch modes if you're using cans?

There is a select function in the software GUI and then it preloads the correct profile based on what you set as default: easy peasy .

Switching from headphones and multiple speakers is not a big deal but it's a two step process. I have to change both my Dangerous Monitor ST and Sonarworks. I find I'm switching back and forth less now. Both because it adds the extra step and secondly, I feel like I'm really hearing it correctly now from my main speakers.

Maybe you said above but did you demo? No, I didn't. I probably should. I'm just kinda excited by the whole thing. mcirish graciously offered to let me borrow his mic, but my schedule with school and kids is just so packed it's hard for me to imagine meeting up anytime soon. And as he mentioned he's still using it for a while yet. I was thinking though too that if I buy the whole package, I could just open the mic and not register the software (so it stays returnable) and use it with the demo. I'm still a little confused about the mic. Is it just the Behringer mic but with a curve specific to that individual mic? I'm just kinda pumped on the idea though.

I'm not totally sure you can return it since it's basically software...I'd make sure first. Looks like the same mic...but the SW one is calibrated at the SW HQ at the North Pole.

For Sweetwater, you can’t return it if you register the software. If I just used the mic to run the demo license but never registered the copy I bought, I think I could return it. But yeah, I’d check first.

You can buy just the mike direct from SW, then run demo, then buy software ?

Ok figured out a good option. Ordered the SW mic from B&H and the mic comes with the 21-day trial of the software. Sweetwater has a nice student discount ($124.99) but it's just for the software. They apparently don't do a student discount on the software/mic bundle. So if I like Sonarworks, I'll keep the mic and buy the student priced software.

He speaks the true true (anyone seen cloud atlas? no?) I've probably bought half my audio software/plugins when I've had educational discount. .. I've probably bought too much audio software/plugins when I've had educational discount.

Ragan, I don't think you'll want to return it once you run the calibration and listen for a while. Unless your room is designed very well, the difference in the lows and low mids will be eye opening. I just ran through a few final mixes I did over the last decade last night with a client and it made me want to go back and remix everything. The LYD48 are great but my room has such an issue with certain frequencies that it was always difficult to trust what I heard. I no longer have a desire to even look at other speakers now. The detail and clarity I was hoping for is now a reality (at least at the mix position). :-)
One thing you will notice that is a bit of a caveat. After the calibration, the software is going to lower the output to the interface by whatever it had to boost to compensate for room modes. In my case, it cut the output by 11.4dB. That was how much boost at 80hz was needed to get rid of the huge dip caused by my room.
