GC has said they’ll pay for the cable, but not the shockmount.
I’m debating whether to go ahead and order the cable so I can hear the damn thing.
Anyone know a decent, body clamp style shockmount for a big bad 47 style mic like this?

I like my Rycote too, but it's kinda ugly. I wish they made it in different coatings. Silver for Neumann's, white and gold. The red screws bug me.

It’s like taking a super classy pic of the Beatles at Abbey Road but having one of them wear some brightly colored Reeboks.

Yes! I hesitate to use it sometimes because its so fugly. Th Soyuz shock mount is cool. It's white like the mic. The mic sits on a little platform with a hole in the bottom for the cable, then the platform is suspended from the rubber bands from a cage with an open front. It looks classic, but it's an upgrade from the Neumann shock mounts which occacionally slip. Attachments:

Spray paint it yerself? It really is about the best mount out there. Take any of the standard elastic band mounts and turn them 90º as you would for overhead use, they kinda suck at that, even new ones sagging until the metal parts touch and there's no more shock protection.

I've thought of that EmRR. I probably will paint the red knobs one day. I hesitate because anything that gets turned a lot like the adjustment screws are will probably wear the paint off quickly.

If it keeps the mic safe and doesn’t cost a small fortune who cares what it looks like? Honestly the only reason anybody likes the look of most elastic mounts is that what everybody sees in all the pictures so are we men ? Or are we sheep?

Seriously, though, are we talking about the "InVision Universal," or the "InVision Universal Lite"? Doesn't the Lite edition have a totally red lyre?

I am fully willing to admit that my objections are totally, completely aesthetic and mostly shallow. I still don’t wanna see Frank Sinatra in that pair of Reeboks.

I have seen way to many of these highend branded shockmounts that are in fact cheap Chinese OEM mounts made out of the cheapest available metal and use generic elastic bands that are supplied with no even considering the weight of the actual mic involved. I have spent to much time around riggers I guess, because if I’m going to hang something above somebody’s head, especially something fragile and expensive, I demand that it was designed to do the job and have a very conservative safety margin. Note in concert rigging the standard safety margins are 5 and 7 times the. Actual load at the specific angle in use.

In that case, Violet makes one that is not rebranded, but is also not cheap. store.violet-design.com/vsm-shockmounts/46-vsm47.html

I ordered the Rycote. If I don’t keep the 47 or don’t like the tech-y aesthetic I can return it.

I bought a Neumann style (U87, U67 etc) shockmount from Red Microphones more than a decade ago for my U77. It was around $100 AUD versus around $700 AUD at the time for the genuine Neumann mount. It's an extremely good reproduction and I doubt if many would pick it as not being the genuine article. I'm not sure but were Red Microphones related to Blue Microphones which then split and become Violet Designs? I have some Rycotes I use with my shotgun and hyper location sound mics. I really couldn't warm to using a Rycote with a 50 year old Neumann however.
