Yep, seems like I had the equivalent of 10+ glasses of water. If you have a sore throat (old opera trick), eat a "green" apple-like a Granny Smith, effectively there's a timed hydration. Learned that one from Dr. Pelayo, who AFAIK turned 100, on the 19th of February! Chris

I wonder if I caught it from this thread? 😂 Same here, started feeling it after reading the thread, lol, but had been on a plane coming in on long flights between Switzerland and West Palm Beach to visit my old (85 yol) man. I kept lavender oil on my mustache in the hopes to kill anything before setting up shop in the mucus membrane of my nose. It has been seemingly working very well and I hope that what I am feeling, a tiny bit of a sore throat and some nasel congestion, doesn't turn into the full monty. Using essential oils might have been what has been keeping my wife, daughter and I so far not very touched as many people at my wife's office and daughter's school are or have been very ill. We keep essential oils in the air 24/7 and use them on our clothing to kind of put up a scented barrier around us. It seems to have done the trick for the past three years. I was sitting on the couch in his living room with a view to the open veranda as a fellow who was installing a new toilet in a bathroom, who I heard deeply coughing while still at his truck, and while opening up the screen door violently sneezed into his right hand and then wiped it on the side of his pants, saw me stand up to greet him and so extended his besmeared and besotted to shake my clean and unsoiled. I called him on it and asked him to please wash his hands in the sink before touching anything else. If I had a surgical mask I would have had him put it on. All my Dad needs is to catch this crazy bug after having a series of small strokes and being weaker than ever in his life. Gee wiz.

Got my first flu shot last year, and only caught a cold and a half (so far! this winter,) probably from my grandkids. Can't say about the vaccine, but I'm grateful for not getting the awful flu this year.
I commercial air travel almost year round, so I must be exposed to all kinda pathogens from international travelers. I'm rolling dice, but none of the planes I've flown all these years have crashed, so far, so good.
As for mercury, I loved it as a kid when the fever thermometers broke in our house, I'd play with the spilled mercury on the floor. Roll it around. Squish it. Got to play with the mercury in an old furnace wall thermostat too.
A mini-tube shaped glass bulb of mercury was suspended at the end of a coiled bi-metalic strip, and in one end of the bulb were two electrodes connected to the furnace circuit. When cool temps caused the strip to contract and tilt, the mercury rolled into the contacts, and the furnace fired until the strip warmed, expanded and tilted the bulb and the mercury away from the contacts.
In those days, mercury was a scientific curiosity. My high school science lab had a pint sized jar of it right on the shelf. A metal liquid at room temp. Science!
Feel Better Eric!

Be careful once you feel well again, don't stress yourself too much. I thought I'd rid myself of the flu last year, and it came back, twice. It was 4-6 weeks, before it was really gone. I felt the after effects for months. Lots of sleep and fluids will work wonders.
Here's a tip I can pass on, try Traditional Medicinals Throat Coat. it's a tea that tastes great and is the best thing ever for vocalists when sipped an hour or two before and right up to singing. A friend was in a lead role on Broadway, singing 8 shows a week, and he swore by it. Don't bother with imitators, find this, and you'll thank me.
If there's no Throat Coat around, in a pinch before singing, eat some potato chips, the oils coat the throat a little.

That stuff has saved my ass many times.

Looked for it on Amazon, was about to order, but the problem is that I really hate licorice. I notice they also have a "Lemon Echinacea" version, from the same company. Does that work as well?

It's really not much of a licorice flavor, even though it s included. I've never met anyone who wasn't surprised by how nice it tastes, considering how well it works.

Same here, my body rejects licorice as a food source, but Throat Coat passes muster and it is killer for a sore throat...as well as a singers dream come true to keep things lubed up before performing. The other thing I cannot put in my mouth is raw cellery, impossible.

So far I have been spared but will be now immunitically challenged as we had to drive 7 hours round trip to pick up my 102.6° daughter from her week long 7th grade class ski trip in Graubunden, Switzerland. She is sick as the proverbial dog with coughing and that high fever. Better to be at home where we can wait on her every need and try to get warm tea into her every so often. I have been coughed on with both her wind and her rain but still hoping for the best.

The sad thing is that my daughter is an ice skater in the Swiss Olympic program and will miss the big gathering this weekend, missing being on the ice with both Swiss and International champions Sarah Meier and Denise Bielmann. She (as well as we) is totally bummed out..
