Hey dudes.
So I'm firmly into VI land lately for lots of reasons. I'm looking for some recommendations for synths.
I'm a classic rock junkie and I like all the usual vintage, touchstone stuff.
My go-to for years has been DCAM Synth Squad, which I still like, but it's just not as quick and intuitive as I'd like. It's very tweak-y and I think I'm maybe looking for some more obvious, vintage emulations.
You guys certainly steered me right with Keyscape.
Softsynth-wise, Whaddya got???

I’m very tempted by the sonic couture stuff.

u-He Diva models vintage Korg, Moog, and Roland components, and sounds pretty great:
Though not targeted towards vintage emulations (unless you're thinking of PPG style wavetables), if you like doing your own programming, I found Xfer Serum to be my favorite synth in that regard, and it's perfectly capable of nailing synthwave/retrowave-type sounds:

Just get Uhe Diva and Repro 5 (prophet 5 emulation) and don't look back.

Diva and Repro 5, I totally concur. Urs Hechman is an amazing dev and every soft synth and plugin he and his cohorts create is of the utmost sound quality. I also dig Zebra, another fantastic sounding synth. Satin is one of my favorite saturation plugins and Presswork is more than a decent compressor. With Diva and my Repro 5 you can do most anything you need short of sample manipulation or wavetable synthesis. You can't go wrong with U-he.

If he's already got Keyscape, then this would offer some useful integration between the two as well. Not sure how well Omnisphere does the vintage-rock-synth thing, but I'd guess that it can be done.

For vintage proggy sounds then you can't do much better than Diva which has Moog style oscillators, envelopes and ladder filter plus Oberheim style state variable filter. Can also do classic Juno/Jupiter and MS20ish sounds.
For indie rock prog, then the Repro-1 and 5 package pretty much nails the Sequential Circuits Pro One and Prophet 5 Rev 3. I think these two are the best hardware emulations so far.
Remember to play in mono.
For Buchla style west coast synthesis you have Madrona Aalto (they also make a nice physical modeling synth called Kaivo) and the new Arturia Music Easel.
For cinematic, Dark Zebra with Diva filters is my favorite, and can do all sorts of sounds. It's somewhere in between additive and wavetable. They also added an awesome waveshaper, new interface and reverb to the latest non-Dark version. Ominsphere is very flexible but it's more of an advanced sampling synth, a rompler with synthesis options rather than a classic subtractive or additive synth.
u-he also does Bazille which is a semi-modular synth with digital FM and Phase distortion oscillators and analog style filters, really excels at sequenced thriller sounds.
For Wavetable, Serum is the most famous and used on all those horrible EDM tracks, but sound-wise I'm liking the demos of the new Ableton 10 Wavetable which comes with Cytomic filters apparently.

I really like the Sythmaster plugins right now. Both one and 2.
Also Dave Duda or whatever his name is makes a really great wavetable synth called Serum.
If you've got time to fuck around the UVI stuff is pretty cool.
I almost don't care what soft synth I am using, but these ones at least stand out a little bit from the bulbous crowd.

Been demo'ing Diva. Gonna be hard not to buy it. It just sounds...correct. It lives up to it's CPU hog status but I can freeze tracks. I just really like playing it, which is kind of the whole thing for me I think. It makes the sounds my ear wants to hear and I just keep playing and playing it. Mission accomplished in my book.

Sorry to add fuel to your synth fire, but also check out his Repro-5 vsti which is like having a Prophet 5 in your computer, there might be a place in your hard drive for that too. Freaking awesome.

One other one stands out to me, that I forgot to mention.
The company is called AudioRealism.
If you are interested in the classic acid/house type of sounds, they make by far the best emulations that I have heard. They win in terms of sound quality, and usability (ease of use, flexibility, power.)
ABL3 - TB303 with a great sequencer "Acid bass" "Drum Machine" - Easily the best 808/909/606 that I have ever used. Can use this anywhere. Redominator - NAILS the sound of my real hardware Roland Alpha Juno 1. Great dark pads, epianos, typical Juno type of poly keys stuff.
In other words, everthing they make is gold. The prices are rather fair as well compared to the big name brands.

The Sonic Projects OP-X Pro II is very impressive. The new version enlarges the UI to make it much more useable. You’ll lose a few hours playing the Famous Patches bank.

This probably doesn't even count as a softsynth (so it's probably somewhat OT), but after switching to logic, about the ONLY thing that I missed about PT was the Xpand2 synth. I was thrilled when I recently found it online.
I have to admit that most of these emulations of vintage keys are interesting but not drool-inducing ..with the possible exception of the Oberheim. Hell, I'd buy it just for the Lyle Mays patch.

Have you used Diva or Repro-5? Just curious. It's about the first softsynth stuff that gave me the involuntary grin. The Repro-5 sounds sounded great, but I watched a Diva youtube demo and found that more impressive, if only because its hybrid design options offer more than just classic emulations. I can't help but think of the same debate we see over and over in the virtual gear world regarding clones versus designs that offer more creative opportunities. If I was looking to recreate classic sounds, then all bets are off. Regardless, I'm more of an acoustic kind of musician. Yeah, I'll tinker with oscillators, filters and ADSR to tweak a patch to where I need it, but I'm really just this side of being a hack when it comes to programming a sound from scratch, and honestly, can't really be bothered. Sour grapes, probably.. :{

Another vote for Omnisphere - It allows you to mix and max dozens of sampled waveforms from different classic synths as well as their filters to create your own unique vintage vibe, not to mention being able to use the vast sample library for interesting layering on top of the old analog sounds. So long as you don't mind all of the options, it's a good way to go, and should be a good fit alongside Keyscape.
With that being said, Diva is pretty bitchin' too, and probably more "authentic" as far as the circuit modeling is concerned.
