Crazy they didn’t do the Tuchel swivel mount for that price. Although they probably could have still sold the mic for $9999. I hear you on the “just a mic” thing...but it’s a lot easier for me to agree having finally found one that really sounds good. Any other big mic purchase for me will be gravy - as I just couldn’t sell this one to get something “better.” (Although with the announcement, it was considered ) Upton still your #1? Yeah, but it’s a Shannuptonstein. There have been times along the way with the whole modding thing where I thought “eff this.” While it was really good - there was still just something missing...but man, this CK-12 Capsule with whatever is inside the Upton body really turned out fantastic. It was pretty damn banging and then my dogs crashed it and snapped the capsule mount...screwed it up...but then Shannon came over and we spent a couple hours with me singing, him twisting screws...until it just landed in a fantastic spot. Jeff Steiger is going to use it here in early April on a bunch of stuff for...er...things...so there will be a bunch of files with some singers other than me on it. All that being said - I’d love to add a 67 to the fold.

A friend of mine compared a freshly recapped U67 to a freshly recapped M269 and found them sounding identical. Both had the output pads removed and both were strapped for 200 Ohms.
I think the differences people hear have to do with what the mikes were subjected to in the past. M269s were used mostly for orchestral recording while 67s were every studio's go-to, most used, and most abused/dropped microphone between 1959 and 1969. For that reason, I suspect the new 67s will probably sound just like a first class M269.

Well, I'm hoping the Stam 67 gets me there because the Neumann's way outta my reach. I'll be thrilled if it holds its own next to the IOAudio 67 mod.
It would be great fun to try an original 67, the Stam and a new 67 if I could get them in the same room.

Are you planning on putting down the extra $500 for the upgraded Stam 67?

I’ll bring over my TLM67 and the RMS269 when you get it. I’m curious to hear those next to it.

As Curly used to say.. coiteny!
Indiehouse, I'd like to get the upgraded version because I'll be comparing it with vintage U67's and the IOAudio 67, TLM67 and others, and I want it to be a fair fight.

The Neumann are coming out slowly. The Neumann rep said that the fall speculations are incorrect. However, they are overwhelmed with the demand. I haven't got mine yet.

I had the reissue next to a beautiful m269 on monday. the reissue was close,a hair darker but could pretty much use them as a stereo pair.

Hey Martin have you decided to buy one of Stam's 67 now? Or are you still going with the loan one first and then see? Does Stam do loan ones to anyone or just the selected few (which is quite justifiable). It could be interesting to hear the difference between his stock modeland the upgraded one. Are you getting both options to test out?

No Hadaja, I don't believe Joshua is able to loan mics due to his process of pre-order and building a finite number. I'm not sure which version I will be getting yet.
Roundbadge, how would you describe the differences between the original and the reissue 67?
The I/O I heard sounded like a U87 but smoother when hit hard, not dark. That's not to say it isn't dark in comparison. I only had the Soyuz 0-19, the Avantone CV-95 and an Advanced Audio 251 style mic to compare it to when Vincent brought it over. The Soyuz and Avantone might be considered fairly bright mics, and the I/O 67 didn't seem especially darker if memory serves.
If Vincent doesn't mind, I could search out the I/O 67 test we did and post it, just as a reference.

Now that the 67 is a current production mic, is it possible to buy a transformer from Senn to stick in my MK67?

Did I mention I bought one of the reissues too? whadayathink? As the old song goes, "Ain't nothing like the real thing, baby... " Yeah It IS the real thing. And like Mr. Ohlesson intimated and round badge said, there isn't really a lot of difference between the U67 and M269 and the reissues or kits or whatnot tend to over-exxagerate the legendary darkness to the point where they're "clones" are not really like the originals.
