True, but some might say the PS is one of the three top most important aspects of a mic's sound. It definitely has an affect, but are the changes some that affect the sound? Since its compatible with the old u67 mic, why not make clips on the same vintage mic with the new PSU? That would be interesting.

I'm sure m269c's will just keep going up. That damn ac701... If the AC701 was readily available, they'd do the 49 over the 269

Seriously. This mic in particular seemed to elude the clone market. Flea apparently got a few of them (47, m49) acceptably close, bock (251)... bock will probably be the 'best' 67 clone. I will go out on a limb and say a lot of people will say they like the bock more. there hasn't been a runaway 67 clone yet to speak of though. Ok...the max mod came close. I also see the Neumann being available for 5-6 on the used market as time goes on. Game over. Most likey that’s what I would do, wait and grab one used down the road. We’ll see what happens.

Since its compatible with the old u67 mic, why not make clips on the same vintage mic with the new PSU? That would be interesting. The PS does indeed effect the sound. I had an original supply and one built by Michael Korby for my 67. The original supply made the mic smoother across all frequencies but at the same time seemed to roll off some highs. Not particularly what I was looking for most times so I mostly used the Korby PS. I wanted to squeeze every bit of highs I could get out of it.

Really glad to hear that if my trust fund comes from an unknown great aunt, I will be able to pick one up...I certainly GAS for one...but the logical side of my brain says similar quality can be had for half or less. If the Max Mod was cheaper, I’d probably go that route with a paint job.

Hopefully Klaus will do a tear down on this like he did with the u47 fet.
Conveniently or not so conveniently my sweetwater account has 7000 in credit. 🤔

I wanted to squeeze every bit of highs I could get out of it. This means the PS *CAN* affect the sound, which is something we have known all along. We have to be diligent about the details here and until we know just what they have changed about the PSU and then figure out what affect that may have on the sound. Is it one component different? Is the whole thing completely different? Until we know these quantifiable differences and test it out, I will be reserving judgement.

I’d LOVE to have one, but I’m extremely happy with my Shannuptonstein 251. It’s a monster. Maybe one day my ship will come in. So with these being a success by all measurables, you think this hurts the Vintage 67 market?

Geez Roundbadge, Neumann should be giving you a cut 'cause you've just sold a few for them Cheers, Ross yeah dammit! seriously though its just a mic. although I like this one more than my last vintage one. the only thing I dont like is the cable..feels like cheap chinese crap.lol and I'm pretty sure it is cheap chinese crap. the newer connectors on the cable aren't great either.Klaus says they're cheap knock offs. had a chat w/ Vintage King and sent them pics.theyre already offering an upgraded gotham cable option. hopefully Neumann will take heed and shipit with better cable..ie Gotham GA7 Redco has the Gotham cable and connectors ready to go.some folks have already changed the cable. everything else looks and feels right. hope they get the swivel mount together. Klaus will have one any minute for eval..I'm sure he'll rip it to shreds.half kidding lol.

Although they probably could have still sold the mic for $9999. I hear you on the “just a mic” thing...but it’s a lot easier for me to agree having finally found one that really sounds good. Any other big mic purchase for me will be gravy - as I just couldn’t sell this one to get something “better.” (Although with the announcement, it was considered )

Interested to hear what Klaus has to say, if he likes it I bet that wait gets even longer! One guy I know who got one thinks his old one is a bit brighter and new one darker, he can’t decide which is better, but I’m betting if he used a pair of well matched tubes it would be pretty much the same!

I like the hi's on the new one.
