On a different topic, FWIW I just took possession of my SA-47F. DHL just dropped it off. Paid Stam for it on 10/4, received it 10/12. Not bad at all considering the distance. I won't have time to test it out today, but tomorrow I'll hook it up. Thank you, Josh!

I think a better/needed test would be a singer closer than 2 feet from the mic. :-) Does anyone record lead vocals back that far? That said it sounds very good. Current TapeOp Neko Case interview; 4 feet for loud vocals, frequently in omni. She also can’t use any Neumann on the basis of being too nasal. I’ve had a really loud female rock singer who worked a ribbon at 3 feet into a 50 dB preamp and would have clipped the converter had there not been safety limiting. She sang that way 8 hours a day for several days and never sounded strained. Nature can and will deliver the unexpected.

Still waiting on my 67. I figure since I PIF back in June, it’s gotta arrive soon! I cannot wait. This will be the jewel of my mic locker.

Joe Chiccarelli said in a mixing with the masters that Morrissey always sang four to six feet back. Joe tried it with him closer but decided ultimately that Moz was right and it nailed his sound.

I've been wondering about this for a while, and assumed I knew the right answer, but indiehouse 's question in the EPQ1A thread makes me think it's better to get verification now instead of opening myself up for disappointment later. I ordered the 67 with the $500 NOS upgrade back when there was only one version of the upgrade. stam 's description said, "The NOS has the Heiserman HK-67 capsule, AMI BV12 tranformer and NOS EF86 tube. I also added Allen Bradley Carbon resistors."
Now the Stam website has three different NOS upgrade versions at three different prices: I'm guessing the $1390 NOS version is actually the Tung-Sol tube and not the Telefunken tube. So my first question is whether that's a correct assumption. Next, since I paid a $500 premium for the upgrade, am I getting the NOS Telefunken tube as well as the Heiserman HK-67 capsule and AMI BV12 tranformer? The math tells me I should since I'll be into the mic for $1590 in the end. But I'm asking because I don't want any surprises like the EPQ1A folks are getting.

Hello NOS upgrade is a NOS EF86 tube (Philips, Valvo or similar) with the AMI BV12, not the Telefunken EF806 tube, this has recently become an option but it was not one at the time and it is a much more expensive and rare tube. I suggest going with the Philips EF86, they sound just as good and very close, almost if not identical to my ears. Thanks Josh

IOf you dig into the Neumann U67 thread here, you can hear my comparison of three different tubes, the stock 86, Telefunken EF806s and EF806S (small s and capital S are different beasts)

Thanks Josh When I ordered the SA67, this was the price on your website: So the $1090 plus the $500 I sent you adds up to $1590. Now you're telling my that for my $1590, I'm getting the mic that you're now selling for $1390 or $1490. stam, how is that right or fair?

There are some clips posted to a GS thread on the SA-67. The drums clips have piqued my interest

And at this point, if I can, I'd prefer to get a refund of my $200 deposit on the ADG and my $700 deposit on the SA67.

No problem Email me please stamaudio@gmail.com
Just to clarify, your price would have been the new price, not the old one.

However I still need to get my ADK Z67 back some day. That's a special mic. Lord help me when I listen back to my electric guitar recordings with that thing.

Either the SA87 (stock in 4 weeks) or the SA67 will sound great on over heads.
Our mics are generally quite dark, we go after the curve of the old ones
The 47 has some nice top end though.

In light of the fact that stam has recently posted projected build and delivery dates on the SA-67 and has relayed to me personally via email that I might expect my SA-67s to be shipped in approx. 15 days; who here on this forum have received their SA-67s, and what do you think of them?
