I think it would be a nice touch on your $1790 model if you could put a few zip ties around the vintage tube. You know, so people know what they are paying for.

I guess y’all forgot to request hot glue instead, which is definitely an industry standard. I have used dry expoy glue on transformers as well successfully in the past, it makes it extremely hard to remove them if they fail though! Very true. It seems people really have forgotten hot glue as an industry standard. IT REALLY IS! It’s holding all sorts of things together inside lots of commercial electronics. I approve of the zip tie! Nothing wrong with it.

Ya know, when I first saw the zip, I didn't really thank much. Then I did real-eyes, I don't have a mic nor have I seen one with a zip on the tranny before. I mean, as a guy who been workin' in manufact-urine for a while, I prefer a nice stainless steel screw(phrasing). Countersunk at 82 degree, with some threadlock if need be. That would certainly be stronger, and that's a fact, JACK(sips sweet tea).
But that don't mean a zip ain't ade-quate. I done some zip rigs that are crazy tight if you do a cross pattern.
Then I remembered - my blackout van-plan. Iffin' I ever had to 'nap somebody's for reason of zombie apocolypse and related doins, you know what I'd do? Zip tie em.
Nuff said. Carry on ya'll.

I am actually proud of it, we even posted a picture of it a few days ago on our Facebook to showcase our hand made products.
I will continue to use it for sure, super safe way to strap those expensive transformers.

Ya know, when I first saw the zip, I didn't really thank much. Then I did real-eyes, I don't have a mic nor have I seen one with a zip on the tranny before. That's really the point despite the strawmen that are getting set up and mowed down. If I open up a piece of rack gear and find zip ties holding some wires in a bunch to keep things neat, I don't think anything of it. So if someone wants to say that zip ties are the "industry standard" for keeping wires neat inside a gear box, they'll get no argument from me. But this isn't about any other piece of gear except microphones. To call zip ties the "industry standard" for holding transformers in place inside a microphone, we'd have to see it as a common practice employed by at least some of the major players, and that just isn't the case. It's not about whether the zip tie works in this situation. Enough knowledgeable people have weighed and said it will be fine, so that's not the issue. The issue is about the "industry standard" claim which apparently cannot be backed up. I do accept and understand that the phrase "industry standard" is ambiguous and will mean different things to different people. To some it may mean a majority employ this method inside microphones, to other it may mean just a plurality employ the method, and to others it may be as simple as a significant percentage of companies employing the method but falling short of a majority or plurality. I'm certain the use of zip ties in microphones don't meet either the majority or plurality mark. And at this point, since no one has been able to provide a significant list of microphone manufacturers who routinely employ the practice of using zip ties inside mic bodies, I'm doubtful that even the lowest bar can be hurdled. And if that lowest bar cannot be reached, I don't see how anyone can claim that the use of zip ties inside microphones is an "industry standard" when it's done in so few microphones. So if it's short of "industry standard," what is it? I think the term "acceptable practice" gives a truer sense of this method and I don't think that language detracts from the product one iota. I also understand that hyperbole and sales go hand in hand, so the stretching of the truth isn't all that surprising; however, it doesn't make it any more palatable when it happens. Hyperbole is certainly a sales "industry standard," and Josh isn't alone in that. He just happens to be within easy reach right now.

and does any of this really matter in terms of the transformer being held securely in place?
Unless, it just wasn’t done properly, everything will be fine. Even if the transformer worked loose from rough handling, it could easily be secured.
I think both of my expensive diy mike kits (c12 and mk-u47), used ties for the transformer or at least one, as I remember cinching it down, zero problems.
Is anybody aware of anyone indicating their sa-67 transformer has worked loose in travel or early use: I doubt it, as cinching a tie securely is very hard to get wrong?

Wow, that's a lot of discussion about a zip tie. I wouldn't get too hung up on Josh's use of "industry standard". Please remember that english isn't Josh's first language (though he is excellent at english speaking and writing)and so the phrase industry standard may seem interchangeable with acceptable practice as used by others. Is this a great mic at a great price? I think so. Will anyone hear the zip tie in my recordings? I don't think so .

With all the hot glue in electronics, no one should need compression at all.

I don't see why this is even a debate!! it's ingenious and if it were available in 1955, Neumann would have done it that way too!

My issue is with it being called the "industry standard" when no one can seem to find a manufacturer who employs this method.

OK, no need to keep pushing this into the ground, let's just "zip" ahead now.. I'd love to hear some more tracks with the SA67 with a male vocalist. When it arrives, I'll post lots of things with it.
