Take that kit....play the riff to Kickstart My Heart over it. This will go over big with the Toontrack’s base.

Does anyone here own this? Johnkenn ? I kind of want to buy it for the Ludwigs and I'm just wondering if the clips we hear in the making-of video are somewhat processed presets or the raw sounds. The kits starting around 4:40 here.

Thanks for doing that, John. Much appreciated. Sounds great and very real/natural. So are these raw sounds or is there any internal (SD3) or external (DAW) processing on these tracks? Like, that snare has a good bit of snap to it in the 67. Is that inherent to the raw sounds? Thanks again for the clips.

Oh sorry - meant to say. This is the default mixer with no processing. It has ambient mics on it in default, but I pulled those pretty far down.

Oh wait - my preset is kind of derived from the Nashville Punch preset. So a good bit of processing on that. There are 3-4 Toontrack presets that are killer - just too much.

Im afraid everything I would write with this would be heavily influenced by Dr Feelgood or the groovinest album of all time, the Black album. I would end every other vocal line with “YEAH!!”

Seriously though, I look forward to listening to your examples and thanks for posting them. Big SD fan. I always find something that works in stock SD3 kits. I typically use a second instance (or a different drum inst) for cymbals. Really nice having no cymbal bleed.

You can also set up separate cymbals only channels in one instance of SD3.

I like having a completely seperate set of cymbal mics without sacrificing the OH snare, etc. having a OH snare and tom track with no cymbals. Heck, for a track I last put together, I used an instance of SD3 and another drum inst (cant remember, maybe BFD3?) for stacked cymbals, different combinations of different cymbals throughout the song. Only a four armed drummer could perform. I also printed some heavy handed modulation (either chorus, flange?) from both to a track and blended in for just a touch of excitement. I know better than super loud cymbals, but it worked well to cut and then get out of the way. I could mute the fx and loose something, but I doubt one would pick up on the fx in the mix.

Sweetwater keeps sending me Toontrack Superior deals on Indie and progressive sdx libraries because I put them in my wish list about a year ago, lol. These are on sale right now if that’s any consolation. I need at least 2 TB to put most of the libraries I have on a disk, so I uninstalled all my SDX libraries when I upgraded to SD3 and I miss a lot of those grooves. I thought the grooves were stored on the system drive, but when I used the manager to uninstall my SD2 sdx packs the grooves disappeared with the sdx libraries I uninstalled. Anyway, I need a bigger SSD, and waiting for prices to drop. For those that have the Bob Rock pack, do you find that you even need the older SDX packs between the new SD3 and the Bob Rock SDX 3 pack? Do you notice a big improvement in the sound on the older sdx packs with the new SD3 updated software?

I tend to use the BR SDX on everything. Occasionally I steal individual snares and kicks from SD3...
