Interesting, but consoles don't seam to get a huge bump in price because of pedigree, I could have bought the TAC Scorpion Butch Vig did his first sessions with Niverana on for next to nothing. Not that this thing isn't rarer than rare and has a list of credits second to none! Consoles are big and need a tech.
But hey I'll put $20 towards an RGO group bid, but I'm not helping lug the things up JK's stairs!

It'll fall in a similar price category as the Beatles related EMI tube desk, I bet. For the reasons people buy such things, it should.
I know a guy with a couple cardboard boxes full of the EMI first gen SS amps used in the consoles. The ones all the engineers hated on first listen. Abbey Road LP maybe? I don't have the big Beatles recording book. They'd probably bring real money too.

I remember Kevin Agunas had the other one over in North Hollywood on the little sound stage he was using for a studio. sounded really good but not omg life changing or anything.used on first two cold war kids records. super impressive to look at though, along with all the other pultecs and fairchilds he had.

Looks like it sold. I sure couldn't afford this. At least it came with a copy of Dark Side Of The Moon. CD or vinyl?

If you can afford it, something like this is a good business tool. The gent who purchased it will no doubt market the heck out of it and get business jus based on people wanting to record on the same console that recorded Pink Floyd's DSOTM. Any word on the rest of the gear used on that album?

If you're rich this is chump change. You hold onto it till it either (a) appreciates in value or (b) you give it away to some entity as a philanthropic write off.

Any word on the rest of the gear used on that album? I know a handful of wealthy collectors here in LA. I'm always stoked when I see a historic piece of gear preserved. I happen to have the baffles that were used on EWF's That's The Way of the World so...if you want that dry sound that happens at the end of Shining Star you know where to go to get it😂

I read somewhere a few weeks back someone saying that Justin Bieber would probably buy it just so he could play his iPod through it.

I read somewhere a few weeks back someone saying that Justin Bieber would probably buy it just so he could play his iPod through it. I would think that you would have to be in the Justin Bieber league (more brains than money) to buy this console for $1.8 million dollars. However, maybe a Museum bought it!!! The Calgary Music Centre recently bought the Rolling Stones remote truck complete with the HELIO console and 2 working 16 track 3M machines, monitors cables etc for $200K. It has the same pedigree as the DSOM EMI console. www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&ved=0ahUKEwiI7dO6_f7SAhWpwFQKHbyQDw8QFggvMAM&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbc.ca%2Fnews%2Fcanada%2Fcalgary%2Fnational-music-centre-restoring-mobile-studio-used-by-rolling-stones-1.3005483&usg=AFQjCNEAKJkrPnfwgATbbojnfxHxDTJFzw&bvm=bv.151325232,d.cGw I am sure you could get Rupert Neve to still build you a custom "blow your mind" console for under $1 million. A good friend of mine recorded the first HEART Album in Vancouver on a 2" Ampex 16 track and original UA 610 tube preamp modules. His favourite quote is "its not the meat but the motion" that makes the difference. The consoles job is to capture the performance (period). I was at British Grove Studios in London last year. Where Mark Knofler has the original EMI console used to Record Rubber Soul completely restored on the right side of the Neve. They actually found this console in the TIF (recyling bin) as Abbey Road had sold it to a School who threw it out a few year ago. Mark had it re-built and it now working again. On the left side of the console he has the EMI console from the EMI studio in LAGOS that recorded Band on the Run. This console has the same modules as the DSOM console. Mark's British Grove complex is probably worth $10 million but I don't think he paid anywhere close to 1.8 million for his EMI consoles probably less than $15K including shipping. Dave Stewart the manager of British Grove was very cordial and actually let me look inside the "Rubber Soul" console, push faders and turn knobs. Quite a thrill to know I was touching a console that had been operated by Sir George. The highlight of our day there was to see his 9' Bosendorfer Grand Piano with the extra bass strings and found out that they used our CM67se microphone over this piano. Cheers, Dave EMI rubber soul (221.9 KB) EMI band on run Lagos (313.06 KB) V88 British Grove (245.42 KB)

If I had the money I would have bought it. That record changed my life. Cheers Wiz I am totally sure it would have changed your life even if it had been mixed on nearly any other console. That record sucked me in and spit me out enlightened. That i heard it for the first time on a good hifi with friends in a warm psychedelic room beeing stoned might have intensified the experience... Unforgettable masterpiece already from the concept alone.

Unforgettable masterpiece already from the concept alone. Laying in my big brothers car, listening to it on 8 track cartridge, after dark in my parents driveway. My brother had a quadraphonic sound system installed, and I am certain the start of "Money" in Quad is the reason I ended up being a recording engineer. The other two 8 track cartridges he had in there, were Machine Head by Deep Purple, and Nutbush City Limits... good good times. cheers Wiz

The console will be stored in an audio 'seed vault' in the arctic circle.

Great band and a great sounding album! Although I did buy a 'remastered' Heart compilation some years back. Worst sounding POS I ever heard. There was something extremely nasty going on in the high-mids that was absolutely ear destroying. It was totally unlistenable.

A lot of my old gear has interesting pedigrees but it's just not the same when you clean out all the old coke and pot out ! This is going to raise the price of a lot of consoles and that sucks and means more gear is going to become collectible / investment rather than tool. Wonder what my Cheap Trick EV's are worth or some of my other stuff I picked up over the years?

I heard "Dream Boat Annie" right off the 2" masters and it certainly did not sound nasty in the high-mids. My good friend Kat Hendriske played drums on 4 of the tracks and Ray Ayote of Ayote drums played congas.
The MM1000 AMPEX was the size of a large freezer and the preamps were all original UA 610's. Mushroom Studio was 3 blocks away from Ocean Sound where I was a partner and Chief engineer.
The monitors in "Mushroom" studio were Altec 604E. It was called Can-Base studios at the time and was designed by Michael Rettinger who wrote Acoustic Design and Noise Control in 1973 as well as designed the A7 voice of the theatre speaker.
Cheers, Dave
