In what way? They are built really well. The big difference between AA and say Peluso is the connector cable and the power supply. Peluso uses a nice upgraded cable and power supply, which looks nice. You'll have to spend $500-$1000 more on the Peluso, and you won't necessarily get better sound. AA is brushed nickel colored and Peluso champagne colored. Well to be honest I do like the cm48t, but I've been kind turned away by the other models. Maybe it's the photos but I can say the only reason I don't own the 414 as an example is because I don't like the look. The warm 414 I do like the look as an example. [ Are you buying it sound good or date?

I'm buying it to sound good and look good in that order.
to be honest there is no reason that can't be realised.

I'm looking for suggestions for a vocal mic that has some thickness to it. Warm saturated girth. The type of mic people would accuse of verging on being overly colored. Cheers. An AEA R84 can get pretty fat if you work the proximity effect. Takes EQ well also. I agree with this totally. It's darkish no matter the proximity but not boomy. Think Sinatra.

I'm ok with that. without starting a fight it comes from a lack of understanding.
the idea that if something is functional it can't celebrate form is such a misused statement. frank Lloyd wright must roll in his grave with how people have completely miss construed "form follows function". he never intended it to mean form doesn't matter.

I see what you mean with some of the mics not looking like the mics they are tributing. I can get that. I have 3 AA mics and I'm ordering another. So I will say they are built well and sound great. A few people mentioned the AEA R84. That looks awesome and would give you a fat tone. Might not be a bad idea if you have a decent preamp with plenty of gain.

to be honest I don't really need my mics to reference any other previously designed mic. I don't buy into the whole clone thing.
all I really need is a mic that sounds great and looks the part. to me... :-)

AHEM - in microphones, the looks are a part of the sound, as headbasket design (reflections and resonances within the headbasket assembly, interference caused by the type and design of the screen, etc.) and body reflections definitely DO affect what the mic sounds like.

Agreed. That's why the AA mics I own and the two I recommended all have close looks to the mics they tribute. Some of the cheaper AA mics, like the 414, don't.
