You bastard. I've been quietly watching that one and now there is a bid. Thanks a lot! Ok, I'm bidding now... can you leave this one alone and let me have it please? What kind of masochist bids before the last second. All that does is drive up prices. Savage.

(Wow, the formatting on these quotes sure has got messed up somehow!) To answer the question (about what mic I bring to live gigs), I bring a Beyer M88TG, of course. Asd far as I can tell, the primary difference between the TG and the plain M88 is the fact that the TG has a ruggedized grill, which is quite welcome as the original M88 grill is quite fragile and when crushed by dropping the mic on its face a couple of times pushes the phase plug back against the diaphragm, which is not good. I've had to repair a number of M69s, which use an identical capsule assembly (except for the diaphragm.) Problem is that once broken they don't stay fixed very long unless you replace the cartridge assembly.

I just got my MK67, so I'm out. It is fair game.

Miktek cv3 new/ used - great mini tube mic. Coax lots out of this mic due to its polar patterns. Transformer coupled output Miktek cv4 used ask Johnkenn about that beauty - Tube and trafo output- this a big fat warm mic and I have used it with great success and I have a very deep voice before Eq and HPF. Miktek c7 fet multi pattern, sounds great through a neve or Rnd pre for vox. This is the least expensive of the three however the sound quality is still there.

on my list is the red r12 or jolly MJE-K47H caps for my oktava mk012 also thinking about the early groove tubes md series.
the aea is now on the list.
The MJE-K47H is nice to have, and useful, but I wouldn't call it "fat". It was my main vocal mic for a while, and I think it takes EQ really well. I did get a fatter sound out of the Advanced Audio CM47 (regular edition).

If you can stretch a little, take a Peluso 2247 SE second hand and put a good tube in it, maybe some capacitors also. I'm a pretty big fan for the money.

I knew that. But I couldn't resist the opportunity for some Don Rickles style deadpan humor.

As a former gearpimp , lots of mics in your price range, lots of disipointment as well, since the mic is for your voice I'm going to say PM Dave, he has a reputation for working with you to get it right, any time a mic builder will work with you in this price range you grab it, or you spend a lot more. The worst thing that can Happen is you find you really do need to spend more to get where you want, it will still be less than buying and selling all the contenders!

The mic is for recording others.
My hesitation with the AA mics is aesthetics.

The mic is for recording others. My hesitation with the AA mics is aesthetics. In what way? They are built really well. The big difference between AA and say Peluso is the connector cable and the power supply. Peluso uses a nice upgraded cable and power supply, which looks nice. You'll have to spend $500-$1000 more on the Peluso, and you won't necessarily get better sound. AA is brushed nickel colored and Peluso champagne colored.

Well to be honest I do like the cm48t, but I've been kind turned away by the other models. Maybe it's the photos but I can say the only reason I don't own the 414 as an example is because I don't like the look. The warm 414 I do like the look as an example.
