So - trying both the Zener and the 2500 on Drum Bus. Probably like what the Zener is doing better. Totally a color box. I do wish it had a mix knob. Like the variable HP. The THD mode allows you to use the Input to add drive without compressing. Really neat - can even run two in serial to get really dirty. Super nice bloom on the snare with the attack around 2 and fast release. This thing (unfortunately for my wallet) seems to do something that I don't have. Damnit.

Man. This sounds like it's gonna be an immediate buy for me. Sigh... Do you have any neve 33609/ 2254 plugins ? Zener are dioides and even though different topologies you may find a use for a similar diode bridge comp. Glad you are enjoying the new plugs

I got a chance to use the hardware unit (Zener) last year at a studio out in PA. Totally fell in love with it. If the plug can do half of what the hardware does I may have to get it. Last year the black friday sale for UAD was pretty killer. I'll have to wait and see if they discount it even though it is new.
The hardware Zener and 33609 are totally different beasts IMO.

Randy's got the real deal at his place. It's completely bad ass. It is..... just kissing it on any buss sounds totally euphoric. That's an incredible addition to Randy's already insane collection of badass compressors. It's also just a wicked looking piece of gear, looks and is built like a damn tank.

Anyone done any mixes or tests with it yet? Guess its kinda hard to compare it to something other than the HW Does anyone know How long until this plugin becomes Native? Or do you think it will stay UAD? I saw it's a Softube coded plug, I like some of there plugs a lot Glad everyone is enjoying UAD v9

JohnKen, remember you can "buy" the sphere plug in for nothing but it will reset your demo's, so buy it on day 13

Thanks kcatthedog Awesome to share that jewel and of course kudos to UAD for the wonderful demo policy:) How close is this plugin to the HW? Is it the usual 10-15% difference? I have never used any of the super high end Chandler limited gear only a used germ pre that needed some maintenance love... Softube does some pretty cool coding... How are people liking the THD feature and what are you finding it best suited for?

I could take the credit but it was smarty pants, cat5, who brought that to my attention: what gets past that guy anyway ? At UA forum, almost all are super knocked out with the Z box and the 2500: the opinion that resonates most for me is one of the ME's on the thread who is also commenting in the context of the HW he has or has used. The one wrinkle with softube is just that we need to think about ua dsp usage vs when, not if, softube release it native, might you have preferred to have it native and if you are thinking about softube console 1/2, or maybe not as,,,? The rumours about ua/softube plug console 1/2 partnership seems to be coalescing out of the mists, as embedded in all the info about the new v9 ua release is a reference to one plug that is still delayed due to controller issues: what controller ? Gannon, was completely professionally UA coy in his response to a question about this, so I feel it is on ! People on UA forum who have got softube console 1 are super positive about it ( little changes in workflow) and loving the ssl and neve emulation to the point of not using their ua plugs, at least while mixing, as you could still use them while tracking and/or in unison mode. btw I say softube console 1/2 , as peeps have already seen the new sweetwater catalogue and console is in it with a good price drop and it seems a little redesigned. thats all I got, back to my morning coffee !

The fact that the Zener/ Curve bender combo is Softube is what is holding me back because i would be frustrated if I purchased for UAD, then it comes out cheaper for Native some point later.. From research and demos these two Chandler plugs are a huge hit across the boards!

Sweet! Thanks for doing that, Randge. I wouldn't expect it to sound the same (haven't had a chance to listen yet), but for those of us that can't swing the real thing, this is a great option!
