Nice . dig the presence on the 286. the 70 has a nice slight roundness to it. I think these would jive nice with the English Redd 47 flavor.

Man the ca 70 -110hn sounds amazing on that take ! All the takes sounds great if course but the last one really stood out to me! Great voice and I feel the 110hn calmed the total frequency response of your voice, almost like it evened it out, dare I say compressed but I really mean more of a balance in the dynamics. Was that the Upton 251 that you are singing into? You have a great voice and I think you would sound great on a ribbon mic too!

Thanks for the replies, guys! Jay, was that the 70 or 286? Also, are there separate mic and line ins on these? No bigs, just curious. Thanks, Stu The input section has 0, -6, -12, -19, and LN (Line Setting) - no separate XLR input for just the Line - all on one input.

Thanks, Stu Hey Stu, we briefly put some tracks through the Pluto using the PS2 rack with a single CA-286 and single CA-70. It's so cool that the transformers can be used as a totally different color option. Currently we are digging the CT-110 on the CA70 and the CT-110H on the CA-286. Since we only have one of each module, we were only running mono through the Pluto and then feeding the track back into the mix. Both modules gave the Pluto a great 3d vibe! The CA-70 sounding more like an old school chamber and the 286 coming back as a bit more hi-fi. They both sounded great! But, that was getting us sidetracked from our task of comparing the Coils against other preamps so that's as far as we got with the Pluto Plate.

That could be my favorite combo too. Although, I'd be happy with the HNs on everything.

I really like the rolled off thickness in the CA-70...although, you can get that with the NF on the 286

Here's the song with the CA-70 on vocal...it was meant for a chick...so, it's a scoche high lol. Like I mentioned...if it was a record, I would re-sing with the CT-110HN and no NF rolloff. But alas...it's a demo, so screw it.

The acoustic on the left was jsteiger's VP28 Litz. Actually, I believe it was the VP28 into the FC526 with the HPF engaged. Oh - and then using his LC40 - which honestly gave me the best sounding acoustic I've ever recorded. As I've said somewhere else, you can't make it sound bad - seriously - I'm not used to boosting 1.6kHz (or whatever the LC40 freq is) +12db and it sounding GOOD. Of course, I didn't do that on the recording...lol. The Baritone on the right was stevefreeman at his place. He might be able to say what he used. All the drum stuff was fake with tons of the fabulous UAD BX20...

wiz - not sure I follow... sorry, I wasn't clearer... I would love if possible, to hear you sing just with the mic and the preamp. You know that song you do... ummm........ you know the long haired guy out of the eagles sings it... ummmm you know the one? its just, when I hear your voice in that track, I was thinking it was among the best choices for your voice I have heard.. and wondered what it sounded like bare... cheers Wiz

also .. regarding impedances... My JLM preamps have variable impedance on them.. I am all over those variable Z knobs all the time.. that and mic positioning go hand in hand... loading a SM57 ... or lots of dynamic mics.. with low impedance changes their character significantly compared to high impedance...... same with condensers..
cheers
