A vote for the Stam Audio SA2A. Love mine, lives on bass, sounds great, really affordable and way better components than the Warm Nailed it.

jordanvoth said: "way better components than the Warm". Are you sure about that jordanvoth? Warm usually goes out of their way to get the best parts, so I'm curious. I can't speak for Jordan, but Ive been over both of them quite extensively, and the SA2a is exactly as Mr, Both says it is. Original tubes sourced from NOS dealers made a HUGE difference. All the RIGHT tubes. My initial complaints about the slow t4 cell have been put to rest. The units just need time to burn in. A LOT of time but then they come in and wham bam thank you ma'am!

I get the tube difference, but what about the components? Tubes can always be changed to taste. Don't take me the wrong way, I think a great choice of tubes is fantastic and important, but in discussing the quality of the parts and build, my question was in regards to the statement "way better components"..

Yeah...it depends on who you ask ; )
People become loyal to stuff they buy (I'm no exception) and since STAM had that little rant about WARM awhile back there's been a sort of standoffish tone set.
Can't believe everything you read.

Have you seen the utter shit slinging fest that's been going on with Stam? I feel truly awful for Josh, this is a guy who wants everyone to get their hands on his stuff and he's probably pricing himself a little too low. I'm still very happy with my stuff, can't wait for the SSL comp.

You mean the free product he gave away and the guy gets it, complains about the noise floor, Joshua offers to fix it if he sends it in and pays shipping, but the guy won't do it? That one?

Oh - this wasn't one of our winners. It was from GS according to his FB page.

Things like that is one of the many reasons I never bother with GS anymore except to perhaps to look at the Apollo thread once a month.

Meanwhile back to playing music and FWIW... Clay at his Boulevard Recording recorded this... Tracking chain for both Vocal (U48) and Acoustic (GTR U87) Chandler Limited REDD.47 -> RS124
on the back-end he polished it off with 'Some basic UAD EQ pultec and UAD LA2a on the vocal and an API 2500 and Waves REDD desk eq on the acoustic.'

Man, he's eating the mic. That's really putting any compressor on the spot. Excellent performance, it's causing lots of popping though. I'm trying to imagine the sound on Abbey Road. It seems the signature tone is in the highs somewhere, there's a nice exciting thing happening, but it's not shrill.

I avoid that kind of popping at all costs. That vocal could have sounded flawless with better recording techniques.

Sounds super cool to me. I enjoyed the performance a great deal.
I want a RS124 bad. Ok ok. I want two RS124's bad.

You guys using the RS124 as a bass tracking comp? What settings are you favoring and how much GR are you pulling off?
