This sounds great! When should we be on the lookout for invoices if we were part of the pre-order? Sending out EU invoices today and tmw. USA should be by week's end or Friday. Finishing final inspection for USA this week. Thanks -L.

Today I got my studio functional to the degree I could get 8 channels of DAW in and out analog. I got my Metric Halo ULN-8 patched to my DP DAW computer. First thing I wanted to try and report on was the Zulu which I hadn't patched in previously. I took an archive 2trk recording of me multitracked with a Martin Backpacker guitar and vocals (even the 'bass' is the Backpacker pitched down with DP's pitch tools,) loaded it into a current DP session, and tweaked the bare track a bit. Then I sent that 2trk to the Zulu, and brought it back into DP through my ULN-8 (using only trim gain, no DSP character or otherwise.) This isn't much of a demo beyond me futzing with the Zulu and settling on the first thing I liked what it did to the two mix. I recorded the Zulu version back into DP, then made a print version where I switched from the feed track and the Zulu processed track. I matched the volume as best I could by ear and Waves PAZ meters. Here's the file. www.dropbox.com/s/vjpcgwxmufye837/HoldYourHandZuluDemo.mp3?dl=0Last time I did a dropbox link, people said it sounded better if you download the mp3 rather than listen at dropbox.com I dunno. And below is the key to what you're hearing when. Just out of the box, I'm digging the ZULU, and think that it'll be a regular part of my analog chain in tha battle to overcome digititis. First Verse, Feed Track First Chorus, Second Verse Zulu Second Chorus Feed Track First Bridge Third Verse, Zulu Second Bridge Feed Track Last Verse split Zulu, then Feed Track Wrap Chorus and end, Zulu This test is magic btw. Do you have the WAV? Thanks -L.

Zulu in Super Hifi Mode: Try putting a pair of direct boxes on the line outputs of Zulu in HX or EX mode using balanced XLR to TS/instrument (unbalanced) adapters then patch the outputs of the direct boxes into a pair of mic pres. This patch produces euphoric results. Check it out and share your experiences here. This is my partner Tod Levine's favorite way to patch Zulu, especially during mastering jobs. As long as you have a transformer couple DI, we prefer passive, so far even the cheap transformer coupled ones perform quite well, you experience a forward shift in headroom, clarity and 3D imaging of the audio. The bass in this mode must be tried to heard! An image of the hookup is attached. Thanks -L.

Interested in the Zulu and wondering if this can this be done during tracking?
Edit: I'm referring to the di box chain. Thanks!

Ok thanks. I'm a little confused on this...so would the chain be mic>pre>zulu>di>dac? Mic/pre/Zulu/DI/Mic Pre?/ADC. That's how you'd do it. What you're asking would require two mic preamps. Thanks -L.

Celtic Zulu has arrived!! ... well it's at the post office anyway. (I'm in Ireland). I'll be going to pick it up later this afternoon. Looking forward to that! The bad news ... There are €114 customs taxes to pay on it but that's Europes fault, not Handsome Audio ... On this side of the pond, first you pay 50% income tax on what you earn, then you pay 23% VAT/Import Taxes on what you spend .. great! Anyway, I had mentally factored in the possibility of having to pay Import Taxes so it's not spoiling my day :-) As soon as I get it hooked up I will post some before and after on mixes I have already done. In the middle of a studio build so it will take me a while to get it into a mix from the beginning.

OK, so I made a quick unboxing and demo video which can be found here: My first video for Youtube ever, so please forgive any noob errors or omissions :-) I will be starting to do some regular content for the recording studio channel and I think I need a video camera because I couldn't get the phone screen to just record the camera. The voice is not well recorded either but I shut up as soon as the music starts Anyway if you want to see someone going crazy for 4 minutes on the Zulu controls take a look

I will revert here to let you know... (still learning about YT video formatting ) So far very interested to hear what the Zulu is doing. I plan to make a few more videos with just drums, just bass, etc. different settings and showing the versatility of the Zulu.

As an insert the performance will be different than as an inline device say after your 5060. Obviously no AB but way more gain to hit it. Highly recommend you try it.
Thanks -L.

Yes, thats the plan eventually, I will be doing various bus inserts on the first 4 faders of the 5060 (compressors mostly) and then a master bus compressor and the Zulu on the master bus output. I just don't have all the cabling and patchbay set up yet .. studio build starts in a couple of weeks and this was done in my living room I have made the video public. Feel free to share.

Hey Langston- I'll be using my Zulu with the RND 5060 as well. I'm curious about your comment as to why inserting Zulu into the Mix Bus would be any different than running it inline out of the Main Output. I'll certainly use both methods when implementing Zulu and will post my results. Scott As an insert the performance will be different than as an inline device say after your 5060. Obviously no AB but way more gain to hit it. Highly recommend you try it. Thanks -L. I have to do a bit of research but unless the insert is post fader on the 5060, then you have a different degree of gain staging with Zulu after the fader. Its not a right or wrong aspect moreso, if you knew you could get more tone by hitting the input hotter and you liked having the tone of the channel hit Zulu rather than Zulu be in "front" of the tone of the channel before gain....you get my drift? For example Alan Evans, has Zulu on the output of his console and hits the input hotter than anything. He mixes the channels on the console into that combination of the master buss gain and the way Zulu reacts versus Zulu being hit first with possibly less gain as an insert (there's no input trim on a master buss? ?Super secret mixer out there that does??) and getting a different tone. Obviously Alan likes having the extra gain smack the input of Zulu since he used his tape machines for mixdowns the same way. Makes sense Try both ways. See which works for your source material. Either way you have both techniques at your disposal. Thanks -L.
