One (of many) key things to point out is the majority of folks already have a bunch of 500 series modules to throw in this. Maybe. I don't know of a single studio anywhere near me that has invested in 500 world, and of engineers I come in immediate contact with I am the only one who has it. I can't loan, rent, trade, or demo anything for anyone in the 500 platform locally without providing a rack/PSU.

Hey fix, any compressor design going on over there? Everyone digs the 2500, and I prefer my Tonelux to that, wondering if you've got something even better up your sleeve.

i'm excited to see where Paul can take this and still keep the cost down. Allowing it to be an open format will be very appealing. Dan Deurloo and I are in process of designing new channel modules for our 1970s broadcast 16 Channel Neves. We don't plan on skimping anywhere on components, but we are trying to keep it as simple a path as possible for sonic reasons. They will be line input only as we have plenty of outboard pres. That said, it's still going to be damn expensive to do the PCBs, parts, and metal work for 16 channels. We already have a frame, power supply, faders, meter bridge, buses, and monitor center section. This stuff adds up in a hurry. I still love mixing on an analog console. I can't make the digital ones sound right to me, and I'm hopeless in the box.

I spent $38,000 on a 16 channel, unloaded 1608 a few years ago. As some of you know I'm now modding it to sound better. After investigation, it's become apparent that quite a bit of skimping happened during design, component selection and manufacture. If this Fix option had been available at the time I would have jumped on it and had twice the channels for 1/2 the $$. Slightly less functionality maybe...but I would not have hesitated. I suppose it's a lot of money for the hobbyist/semi-pro but I think there is a market for it. I'm not the only guy with a 1608. It becomes a marketing issue I think. Tough to compete with the bigger companies in the marketing world. If Fix can weather the lean years, like CAPI (thank god) has then I think this will fly. I have a few friends who have designed, manufactured and marketed OUTSTANDING gear that isn't catching on. I pray this is not the case here. Purple audio has a semi-similar mixing solution on their site. We all know their gear but I've seen almost no discussion of it. So I don't think it's a $$ issue...I think it's an awareness issue and I hope the word gets out on this one.
I'm drooling over it for sure!!!

Trying to figure out where the 15k number came from... It's going to be around 5k forn8 channels... That was a rough guess-timation of a complete setup after purchasing the individual pres and eq. Looking forward to seeing and hearing for more on this on your site. The info is lacking in this early stage. I'll be watching for it. Great idea, BTW...

Trying to figure out where the 15k number came from... It's going to be around 5k forn8 channels... I originally mentioned that it would be about $12k for 16 channels of CAPI DIY pres and eqs to fill the buckets. Looks like another 5-10k for a pair of buckets to get to 16 channels.

Guys are bench racing and trying to figure out $ to load up 16 channels, the basic set up is a great starting point, anyone who may be hesitent to pull the trigger for fear of obsolescence? 500 series is gonna be dinosaur bones in about 1.6 billion years haha

The cool thing is that you can buy one input bucket, and as many 500 buckets as you need, they will be cheap. With so many owners of 500 stuff, this will amount to a cleanup expense...

Very cool.
Looks like there will be DOA or IC options for the summing amp modules. Is that the same for the individual channels as well?

Just for the 3 busses. The channels are designed to pass on the tones of what you plug into it...

INPUT MODULE: bottom to top, SOLO/SIP MUTE solo safe polarity fader, fdr=0 switch (still in line when external faders are attached) PAN, pan in STEREO BUX A, B, C Baxandall tilt type EQ Low pass sweep filter high pass sweep filter INSERT with a blend control 3 input selections with a trim Send A Send B Send C (stereo) with 3 selectable outputs, BUS 1, BUS 2, BUS 3 and it can be used as an external input that blends with the channel or if a bus is selected, routes to one or more of them.
Each bucket will run by itself, with internal summing and outputs. You can link them into he master section and use either the Slate Control or the CraneSong Avocett as the monitor device. The master section has 3 sets of cards, so you can take op-amps and transformers from anyone and make that stereo bus sound like any console out there, so you can have 3 flavors at your fingertips. It also has a Grand Master and meter drivers.
