I bought a 40 modular channel Soundtracs Megas Mix that looked like heavy touring and fallen off a track. 200 Euros on the bay. Dirt-cheap. Including 1000km of transportation! Checked the channels - all working. Even though it did look like in very bad shape, it definitely had some service over the years, i guess it has got at least the second set of new faders. Built like a tank. Needs some rework for sure. But wow, 4 transistors on the pre frontend, nice EQ, and a special sound i really like. Seems like quite some reggae guys like this one, too. We had another Soundtracs, a more lower entry/midclass Project 8 that was expensive in comparison, and that i like for a kind of cloudy rock sound (SSM2017 chip pres), but the Megas is a different beast. (Quartz pres, as far as i know.) In the end - great bargain. So, if you are not afraid of restauration/refurbishing, there are some incredible deals out there from time to time ... but you definitely need some luck and shouldn't be afraid to handle the signs of the time, i.e. servicing.

TAC / Amek Consoles are great. Matchless Einstein Hendrix Scorpion to name a few. A demo my band recorded in 2001 at Real Time Studios in Holly Hill, Florida using a Matchless is still the best recording I've heard from any home/semi pro studio.

I worked on an Amek Angela II for years. I actually liked the sound of that board overall, but it definitely needed a tech to keep his eye on it. The EQ was nice, the pres were fair, the headroom was OK. It didn't "drive" particularly well, so you needed to be aware of its limits. I wouldn't describe it as "big" sounding. The metering was pretty good, though, so you could see what you were doing.

Welcome I’m not an Amek hater, well except the Scorpion to many Scorpion bites in the studio and live over the years. The thing is almost every tech I know is an Amek hater and that’s kept me in the DDA, Soundcraft and Harrison camp, but what do I know I own an Otari STATUS.
