I'm surprised folk are ragging on WARM's studio space because it isn't 'vibey.' The physical construction looks thoughtful and enviable. If you wanted lava lamps, tie dye and Christmas lights, you could bring that. That said, how many hit records have been made in really good technically designed studios? I've read some MIX (and other) stories over the years of really acoustically ambitious studio builds. Recording artists with an album budget I think are mainly attracted to the talent on the other side of the glass. Wherever they work. If anything amazing comes out of Bryce's studio, it'll be because of who's playing and who's recording. Ain't that the way? One thing WARM might shine at is really quiet acoustical stuff with super quality outboard electronics because they've got such great isolation. Edited to say also, how good the main room flatters the music made in it. Don the idea of bring in talent to show off the gear / studio seams like a good one till you do it. Let’s say I had brought you guys into Fullco’s demo room studio, the problem is On both a National and local level I would be pissing off clients. Someone would have felt we were stealing potential buisness. Seriously man I can’t tell you how often and the time sink it was every time the owners would provide services for their favorite charity. They were in effect taking money from MY CLIENTS! Now imagine the work and deals went into keeping these people happy and buying from us! Oh the politics of gear.

Yeah warm guy would be self-sabotaging himself. And that warm room is obviously a room meant to show off the warm gear with a bunch of baller utilitarian stuff. Modern SSL consoles, ATCs, Lynx Aurora (N), and then jsut a bunch of common mics. It doesn’t look like the place to quickly bang out a great sounding clean record or something that oozes vibe but at least it doesn’t look like it could be on HGTV

It's a budget line that can impress, and whilst it won't become a boutique line, it can certainly get its game up. Bryce is a very very smart cookie.

Agree, but still think they should follow Rode's example... And put (at least) a 5 year Warranty on their stuff. Rode does 10! Plus I don't hear too many Rode mics, with "problems'. Chris P.S. Will "catch up" later tonight.

Why oh why would someone want to record on such prosumer stuff? How does anyone expect to make a record with these things? (I was being facetious if you didn't guess). If you can't make an epic recording with that studio then plainly put it's your fault.

I'm a bit amazed at all the criticism of a studio that most, if not all of us, would love to have. Would I want some additional gear that isn't Warm? Yes. But I'd kill to have that kind of space.

Amen to that. How many large studios are even being built these days where you can get a spacious drum sound like that?

I don't think anyone is saying its not cool they can build a nice expensive studio- just stating opinions that it looks a bit tacky and sterile. Its like sure I'll take the 2 million dollar mansion with gaudy fixtures and tacky design choices... But Id rather take a just as well built 2 million dollar mansion with a nice aesthetic with an interior designer I respect working with the architect. To each their own. Nothing wrong or mean spirited about having opinions. Like... can I not be critical of the sound of a $6000 microphone or compressor just because its 'nicer' than what I have?

You know what I know for sure doesn't work well? (At least for me) Those shin level compressors in their lower racks, basically under the desk, where you'd have to get out of the chair and bend down to see the meters.
That has bitten me in the butt before, trying to figure out what is sounding so overcooked while the client is sitting there wondering what's up. Give me gear I can see, thanks.

I think what makes this feel a little “sterile” is that visually, it looks similar to one of those YouTube studio tour videos where someone with way too much money and way too little experience builds a studio in a couple weeks, almost like they walked into a Guitar Center and walked out with a Recording Studio™. But honestly, I definitely felt pretty elitist typing that. Personally, I don’t have a problem with people who go that route — I can see why some find it distasteful, but whatever gets people making music is cool with me. You have to remember this is Bryce we’re talking about — not some random guy who just decided to buy bunch of gear on a whim. The guy knows his stuff and you can tell this is a long time dream of his. He has absolutely earned his place in this business. If I were the founder of Warm Audio, I can’t say I wouldn’t build the exact same studio.

Where are the finger grease, coffee stains, machine oil, random stains from god knows what on the carpet, and drummer sweat? Where is the dust? This is a music studio. It should smell be PCB resin, hot electronics, coffee, and dust.

Studio ascetics are like beauty, in the mind of the beholder.
The studios people think vibey, wonder what they looked like brand new?
Personally, I like the Warm studio look.
It occurs to be that Bryce thought, I’ll build my own Studio, my way, using mostly my OB gear, and produce my sound: criticism: bring it.
Seems to me the gauntlet has been thrown down: we will see me how unvibey or acceptable the Warm studio sound is ?

Nothing on the scale of what Bryce has built, but still useful and features the brand's gear

Well, its ONE vibe I suppose. This Warm studio has its own look/'vibe'. Its just not a studio for me, or that any of the artists I work with would be interested in. But as has been said- beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

That has bitten me in the butt before, trying to figure out what is sounding so overcooked while the client is sitting there wondering what's up. Give me gear I can see, thanks. Its things like this where you can tell who has and who hasn't spent of time in various studios. Seems minor but its up there with things like not having visual sight on input meters from whatever the main bank of preamps is... rackmount or console. Or patchbays located at the bottom of the rack, ankle level. Nobody patches with their toes but you see it all the time. Anyway... Seems like buddy is all into the corporate studio tours these days. Warm... then I see he did Sweetwater and now some other corporate studio? Won't give him the links... and I don't watch but can't get the guy out of my utoob feed. Places like this aren't built for musicians to make a record in. That's not the purpose. Rooms like that serve the same function as the showroom at a car dealership. They'll produce product videos there but very unlikely an actual record. Like something your mom or girlfriend would buy. Videos of places like that may be great eye candy... and fodder for the sowing circle like this corner of the interknot... but they have very little to do with in the trenches record making.

Or patchbays located at the bottom of the rack, ankle level. Nobody patches with their toes but you see it all the time. Hey I resemble that remark!!!!! LOL. It was not my first choice, but it was putting the patch bay low, when I rarely use it (mostly patching digitally in PT for mixing -=- I'm only hard patching for large group tracking which I do less of now) or putting them up on the desk and loosing valuable "GEAR" room space to put my fingers on. I chose the former. But yeah, when I do have to get into patching, I generally just lay down on the floor with a bunch of cables, and relax a bit.... I learned that lesson the hard / expensive way with a LFAC. These days, the most valuable stuff real estate wise to me is outboard gear that I use to mix and be creative with. I don't want it behind me or beside me or in a machine room. I want it hands down in my sweet spot right in front of me. That necessitated loosing the console - and at this point - that was actually fine for me. I have an AVID mix for faders. All the things that a console has are great and I love consoles. But it wasn't worth the space and acoustic compromise. I just found myself using the console less and less, the patch bays less and less (patching again inside PT primarily), and the outboard more and more. Having to turn around, slide 10' to the side, etc. was a groove killer. So the patch bays got 3rd place. I'm not a commercial room at this point. The only one that can complain is me. re: the Warm studio. I get it. I'm sure it's for gear demonstrations / video's / marketing first, and actual sessions second. Whatever floats his boat. There are quite obviously a lot of technical build things done right. The esthetics? Well, it's a really "warm" vibe. Haha! If you like warm gear, you'll LOVE that studio.

All valid points for sure, kind of talking two streams ascetic and utility ?
Utility means work flow and there could be some built for purpose compromises. Personally, for workflow as said above, I prefer the line of sight sort of in your face placement of things I need to see and touch, patchbays, metres , etc.
Ascetics, I like the materials , but don’t think I’d call it cozy, but all that space should reduce room sonic problems.
Like everything with recording, good to have choices. I wonder what typical studios look like in that area, maybe with the new build, they wanted to stand out and be different.

Just had the opportunity to tour RCA studio B this past weekend - it kind of looks like a high school music room - didn't seem to be a problem . It was a cool experience and it does sound great in there - you wouldn't expect it to when you walk in and look around. Personal opinion is that "vibe" has to be earned for lack of a better way of putting it. The Warm Audio stuff (WA-73EQ and WA-251) that I have and use gets the job done for me. I'm sure someday as I continue to try different gear it may get replaced - that stuff along with Klark Teknik was sort of my gateway drug to the hardware world.

I am absolutely shocked every time I refresh the 'Pro Audio' page that this thread is still going. Bryce built a studio. He seems to like it. Some people think the studio looks too corporate. Others think it's fine. Regardless, it's not really meant to be a commercial studio. I don't understand how there's anything else to say, really.

Warm is kind of a favorite punching bag, I've noticed. This seems related. Golden Age is pretty much the same type of business and rarely gets dragged into this sort of thing.

Hey, just as long as I can keep using Slate as my punching bag. I actually like some of the plugs, I just think he's become quite the fun character in the process.
I remember seeing the Warm 312 half-rack and Golden Age Pre 73 half-rack side-by-side at some MI retailers when they were relatively new. I assumed they were the same company or had some sort of connection at the time, honestly.

Just because you are a character, doesn't mean you have character.
