I am always walking through the garage to get the car out. Pretty standard stuff so far.
And there is the mountain of boxes of music and studio stuff that I know I really must do something with.
Well I had a few days holiday and we bought a Treadmill so now I need to make room for it in the garage for it when it arrives. So hence the cleanup order has been issued by the better half.
Low and behold I pull this piece out of one of the boxes. Clearly if I have not used this in 20 x years I am never going to use it. I wonder how many Expresso's I had that day when I bought this thinking it was going to change my world??
But you know how it goes, you tell the wife "I really need this for the studio" or "This is going to be so useful" or :How I am I going to get on with out having this" Maybe you have said to yourself "I am not really a real studio if I dont have this particular piece of gear or instrument".
So whats your piece or pieces of gear that you have bought that you never have used?

Strike the strings without depressing any of the keys and you’ll see just what an autoharp is indispensable for…instant horror film soundtrack
Oh yeah, also you can do a slow strum back n forth on C and you get the dream sequence thing

I still have a new in box Dynamount mic robot. I never got around to using it, and now I don't seem to care...
Anyone interested in buying it?

I built this summing mixer, 4X reamp thing. Used it a few times, and then I haven't touched it for years.
That sounds like something a bunch of forum people would clamor for, but I really have almost no need for it in my personal workflow.
At least I got to try it out, the "summing" thing. I guess I could try to reamp more. I usually just am happy with my tones.
Maybe one day I'll start mixing with more guitar pedals or something, like Vance Powell, so it remains in the rack.

For me it has to be headphones. At some point I had a client complain about the HD280's and 7506's. I was working MI retail/sales at that point, so I decided to diversify the selection, bought a few SRH440's and AKG K240's. I don't think anyone ever touched the AKG's (sort of a shame, I found them again recently and think they're pretty darn good sounding, and very light). I still have a new in box Dynamount mic robot. I never got around to using it, and now I don't seem to care... Anyone interested in buying it? Sounds just as useful as an assistant engineer with a smart phone. (I kid! These things seem useful for the right circumstances. I'm guessing they're pretty pricey.)

computers and software. Lots of dead software and dead computers over the years. Also Twin reverb. I LOVE the sound, I have to blow up the neighborhood to get just the right tone lol. So it stays mostly as nice looking eye candy.

If I sold what I have and don't use or really need, I'd easily put a 1/4 mill back in the coffers.

Something like this, just have to include it in the chain of all things for a year or so. If it isn't hurting the sound its probably helping? I have a lot of software I've neglected to use, probably 1,000+ plugins in my folder. Kind of absurd, but I find it "thrilling" to try new things, lol. Just got some new ones to try today, Fuse gear free from Focusrite. I was mixing with the summing mixer for a while. The short version is, some things were better, some things were worse, and some things you couldn't tell them apart in a blind A/B. Vs. DAW mixes. So.... a dead even split, no statistical advantage to use the thing. I really should fire it up again, though, just to use it. Mine's just "resistors in a box" like Folcrom, and a couple transformers on the output. Now when I listen to an album like "Double Negative" by Low, mixed by BJ Burton, that gets me a little funny on the inside about gear again. He has a 32 channel CAPI Sum-Bus. jsteiger do you have any inside stories about BJ's sumbus? He also uses tape, Eventide 8000 hardware, API 2500 mix bus compressor, fancy rack compressors and all that sh$t. It's albums like those, some Thom Yorke/ Nigel Godrich stuff, that make me want to buy a huge expensive rack system. The reality is I can't even afford one piece. So it's a pipe dream. Those kinds of albums make me believe the hardware thing is "real." Even though I exist primarily 100% In The Box for years now. The difference between where I am now, and that goal, however, is thousands of dollars that I don't have to spend. So I trundle along ITB and get super excited about Sonnox EQ's and things like that, that give me the vibe of my dreams. But I do look across the aisle from time to time. And I have the Blackbird Studios of plugin folders, LOL!!

I bought a Roll Music Folcrom recently but can’t bring myself to start experimenting with analog summing as I’m racing to finish like 5 LPs before our kiddo is born.
Also have a peavey 5150 combo that I have had for about six years that has been used on maybe two projects

95% of all plugins I ever bought Not quite - but somewaht close - but I find I don't care much about whatever differences I might hear from various plugins (Don't know if that's due to my tinnitus, old age, being an insensitive bum) I just prefer to use what I'm generally used too. Whatever reduces what I perceive as unpleasant harshness, I might use - or not - I've tried various tape saturation plugins, for example, and if I do hear a difference - I just usually shrug - and don't really care. (I much more sensitive - and opiniated about my morning coffee)

The irony is that in a couple years you can add the treadmill to the list of things in the garage that you don’t use. Don’t kill the messenger!

Plugins. Plugins and plugins and more plugins. Dozens and dozens of em. Maybe hundreds. I'm a sucker for the hype. Then, after buying and having a quick listen, I never use em again. I've played this out dozens of times. You'd think I would learn. The other thing that I can think of right off the top of my head is one of these : thetalkstar.comUsed if for about a hour on one song. I guess I'm just too old..... . If anyone wants one, I'd happily sell it at a huge loss.

I bought a shipping container to put all of the gear I don't use in it. I have not found a song yet that needs a shipping container. I have some large mallets ready to go. Happy to do a remote session for anyone. I suggest a Decca tree, & a couple of spot mics on a non windy day. My problem is I look at these items and think - maybe one day I'll need this < first sign of a hoarder

The list is long of vintage gear I bought to fix or rack but just never got to doing it.
I’ve got a bunch of quad eight stuff some electrodyne stuff. Auditronics cards Bunch of Alison research stuff, assortment of vintage transformers, some b&b 500 series gear, gefell mics, McCurdy eq
am sure there is some other stuff I’ve forgotten.
Have been collecting the gear for years. This year I decided to sort out my mics which is almost complete. Next year it’s time to work through the list above.
