You’ll get the Stam before that happens, no criticism of AS! Got to get the cap right or what’s the point?

I’m getting the distinct impression you all are not backing the cheap option😆 Just got some funds in so might be going back to my origin thoughts The thing with any cheap option is that it all really comes down to the capsule, budget options mean budget capsules. A great Capsule like Tim’s in an otherwise dirt cheap build is in most cases going to out perform a build with a budget capsule even with all the other name brand parts. Yes the mass market might have more of the perceived vintage flavor, but if the capsule doesn’t convert it into electrons all the flavor is worthless. It often get lost that what drives us to the classics is a sense of realism others don’t have and that all starts with the capsule. In other words give me a 414 ( even the new ones) with Tim’s or MBHO, HK or Beesneez over a Warm 251 any day.

I'd be happy to you a SA-251 over for testing.
We use Tim Campell's CT12 replica, original circuit and values, a GE 6072A NOS tube and a AMI output transformer with high quality power supply.
Tim's capsule is the closest CK12 recreation you will find on the market today and were all the tone is on these mics.
If you send me your details I'll send one over from this month's batch, no payment required unless you want to keep it.

How backlogged are you exactly? I doubt I'd wait until 2023.

@soriantis thought they were working on a mkii ? Not a clue TBH, I really like the sound of that SA-800 though .. This forum did help me to realise that I'm a sucker for a K67 style capsule, unless it's an ISK mic apparently.

I think Josh had a fb post about the mkii.
Nothing wrong with less expensive mics but there is a big difference between an under $1k and sun under $2k mike.
If budget allows, I’d always recommend the more expensive mike.
I have Tim’s cap in my diy c12 studio 939 clone, with no’s GE 50’s tube, sounds great. A buddy has the sa-800, sounds sublime!

Umm maybe.. I have Schoepes, Neumann's (U89, M147), MD441 etc. mic's and a pair of Shelford / 6176 channels / Stam 2A's (now) to complement them (I've reduced my collection quite a bit seen as I only record myself). Sure I've mentioned that before.. However I do still rate the ISK's tube mic's highly, the little gem's etc. sound decent but with that dreaded nuance *for the price. That being said there aren't many cheap LDC's or toob mic's I'd actively recommend. I did consider selling them all for a Blue Bottle, that's currently my favourite but that SA-800 is also right up my street and I wouldn't have to pawn the rest to own one. P.S Always open to suggestions though, if there's a very decent k67 style mic I can go pick up off the shelf without import delays, taxes and a multitude of other potential issues (like getting lost in transit) I'm all ears.

Yeah that's not going to happen. Waiting on the Heiserman ELA H251 That was meant as a joke, although not very humorous in hindsight I can see that! LOL All the audioscape guys and myself (evangelist, not a regular employee) are very supportive of mdmitch2 wave and tskguy and their fabulous microphones, which pair well with Audioscape Preamps, compressors and EQs.

I'm hoping to be able to provide some updates on the Heiserman 251 soon, but we're still waiting on some parts before we can go into production. If you want to get 'early access' you can send me a message on here (as many of you have done) and/or sign up for our newsletter on heisermanaudio.com .

Anyone know of any demo comparisons of the Stam 251? My initial search is coming up with nada.

Anyone know of any demo comparisons of the Stam 251? My initial search is coming up with nada. If you take him up on his offer you could be the first to compare!
If you read the reviews some of the posters say they have compared it to heavierweight mics than a Warm 251

Anyone know of any demo comparisons of the Stam 251? My initial search is coming up with nada. I will be making some videos with two singers in November against some vintage 251's on this same format I'll post the audio files as soon as record them. Both male and female samples.

I am planning to take up the offer of a demo if it works out and likely end up keeping it. Hard to imagine I won’t like it. As far as a comparison demo... I can compare it to an SM58 😆 or a mic parts S12.
