Anybody use these? I was considering getting a few to try out, but won't bother if they're junk. www.snareweight.com/

Holy guacamole those are expensive! And I'd need two? One for die cast hoops & one for triple flange? Plus an assortment of leathers at $30 a pop?! Hard pass. Lots of other ways & products to dampen a drum. Big Fat Snare? They're like $20? bigfatsnaredrum.com/

I love that one of the key features is "New piece of drummer hardware" Probably for SEO purposes, but... REALLY? Someone is searching google for "New piece of drummer hardware"?? Chad PS: Nope. I looked and NO ONE is searching for "New piece of drummer hardware". (In the history of "EVER").

I like the idea that it's so easy to tailor the dampening by just folding the leather up by different amounts. If it really does a thing, I don't mind spending $30. Moongels get sticky shit everywhere, especially when they start breaking down, and other dampening options tend to move around, which is why I also like the idea of the Snareweight being attached to the drum.

Couple 3 years ago I got one of these Meinl "backbeat" snare-bourine contraptions... its great. Love it.
It does occasionally move around a bit, depending on angle of the stand but a little piece of gaff tape fixes that.
Think it was about $50? Would totally buy it again.

I started gaff taping a wallet to my snares years ago and never looked back. Sounds like I want it to.

You might be right. I wasn't realizing that you had to buy that separately. I suppose an extra $150 might change things. Maybe.... I'm always futzing around with dampening, and not necessarily with results that I love, so I might still be interested, but it'd have to really do a "thing". Maybe...

I have the leather one and a metal one I made (yeah because they're expensive!)
They work as advertised and I like them but it's not really anything I can't work without.
The best is still the emperor CS dot with a moongel on the logo.

Mine is the 30 buck m80 snare weight. Doesn't fit my Ayotte hoops, but works on my metal hoops.
And, FWIW, it's been on my DW hanging floor for a while now. Definitely does a better job than moon gel on that Tom.

Oh, so there's a distinction to be made between the $30 leather one and the more expensive metal one. I'll have to do some comparing. For $30, I still think I might try the leather one.
I had actually considered getting a few of them to use on snare and toms.

I got the longer and shorter leather models and they work well. The short one on floor time is really good. I like the longer one on snare with the flaps folded in and held by the magnets.

I started gaff taping a wallet to my snares years ago and never looked back. Sounds like I want it to. Actually genius. If you leave one flap open, you can customize the wallet's weight by adding more cards!
"Sometimes when we want a little more ring, we take out the platinum card and put in the silver."
I'm hesitant to say what personal care product one of my mentors would tape to their batter heads.

And by moongel I mean Drumdots. They're far superior and don't turn into goo after a month.

I may have just googled what these look like and....
...why am I reminded of a talk box?
I never realized there were moon gel alternatives though. I love the application/use of the product, but much like a lot of you, always hated their imperfections.
I noticed a few mentions of floor tom use; anyone using something like these weights or alternative gels for rack toms? Always felt like moon gels killed too much of the tail (unless you're going for that sort of sound, of course!), and sometimes we just don't have the time for me to poorly tune them when the drummer is worse at it than me.
edit: Oh wow, there's actually a product called "the drum wallet" out there...

I just like the idea of an easily changeable dampening method that doesn't involve anything sticky and is very repeatable. For $30 a piece, I'm beginning to think I may pick up a few and try them on the whole kit.

I like them very, very much. I bought my first one because I was losing so much $$$ in moongels every time the drummer would leave the session without taking my gels off his kit. The snare weights are so heavy, NOBODY is gonna fail to notice they're still attached. Plus, they're expensive enough that i don't feel like a cheapskate calling the client to be like "um can you please return that thing you stole". LOL the SWs paid for themselves in short order considering that.
A nice feature of the SW is you can 'tune' the resonance you remove by hitting the drum while moving the SW around the circumference.
As for big fat snare, now THAT is the biggest waste of money imaginable. just cut the hoop off an old drum head that you were about to throw away. Bam.

The big heavy pricey ones (both older brass and newer chrome versions), and the little leather ones. And a bunch of inserts. I was a pretty early adopter, so i got a bit of a personal relationship with the guy that started the company, and then through a band i was touring with i got an endorsement deal, which sorta turned into me becoming a dealer (i had a side-business of selling a few specific musical instrument items up until last year). So i have most of their lineup of products; everything they made up till around 2017 or so.
