Anyone have any experience with Reverb safe shipping? I sold my ATC amp a few weeks ago, and the buyer said it wasn’t passing audio. Finally had a safe shipping rep get back to me and apparently the amp is arriving back at my house tomorrow even though I’m on vacation and I need to refund the buyer within 24 hours, even though I’m not home and don’t have the funds to give back to the buyer. Also, Reverb wants a repair estimate in 7 days. Like from who? ATC? Aren’t they gonna wanna see it? They’re in Nevada. This is a nightmare mess. Please someone tell me this works out in the end.

In a word you my friend are screwed! Honestly your best hope is the amp is fine and the guy didn’t like it. Call Brad Lundy see if He has a Tech in Country then see if you can divert shipment. If it was something like a 545 I would say just eat the cost but man on that one, no way.

I’m just not sure what the purpose of the “safe shipping” fee is, if I still have to refund the buyer. The kicker is I could have just returned the thing to Sweetwater. Not for cash but for credit. But at least I could have bought something new and flipped it. The whole situation sucks, and the amp is obviously gonna get all beat up from all this shipping. It weighs 45 lbs, and just can’t take all the UPS treatment. Grrrr

Also, just browsing around the internet, it appears that along with higher fees, their customer service has gone in the pooper. 1 star from the better business bureau. I think this is the last piece of gear I will be selling on Reverb.

I know sellers who have been royally screwed over by Reveb and I also had a positive experience.
Have you contacted their support and discussed the situation ?
If you receive it and it’s working fine, I’d refuse to return the refund: you are not a retail store.

If you receive it and it’s working fine, I’d refuse to return the refund: you are not a retail store. The thing is, I paid for the stupid safe shipping thing and I’ve barely had any communication. From what I was reading reverb will refund the money and put a negative balance on your account until you pay it. If it’s not paid in 14 days they just charge your card on file. Mine happens to be a debit card so I’m considering calling my bank and canceling the card. If this was a 50 dollar guitar pedal I wouldn’t care, but it’s close to 3 grand. It’s ridiculous. Also I’m expected to refund the money before the reverb fees were taken out? Crazy. Then what? Fix it and sell it again on Reverb so they can make more money? I’m done with them after this. I’ve already started making noise, but I’m the little guy here. It’s really frustrating. I feel like they are treating me like I’m some kind of store when I’m just one private seller.

I have gotten in the habit of making a video of gear demonstrating that it’s working and sending that to the buyer before shipping. Also, I take photos of my packing and send them as well.

But that sucks you’re going through this. I wish there was a better way to sell gear. Nothing moves for me on forums. eBay sucks. Everything sells on Reverb, even though it sucks now too. I guess I just gotta stop with the buying/selling gear.

Wait and get item back, maybe the buyer dropped it you never know if it may return damaged, a drag but one day at a time. I’d cancel your debit card though to protect yourself.

Yeah, thanks everyone for chiming in. Makes me feel a little better. There’s a few options here, none of which I really care to do, but in the end it’s not the worst thing in the world. Just totally sucks and gives me a whole bunch of headaches. You guys are the best.

I'd even video the opening of the package.

I’m also thinking this guy got buyers remorse and is just claiming it doesn’t work. He sent me a very vague video of it on and then hitting play on his iTunes. No shots of cables, interface etc. I’d put money on it working when I get it back, in which case the story will get more interesting. One step at a time.

Be very careful about hooking it up. See if you can tell if it's been opened up before you do anything else.
It's a common scam for someone to buy a piece of gear like something broken they have, swap the good parts from yours for the bad parts in their unit and then claim yours didn't work.
That's happened to me with some smaller things and Ebay. It took forever to get resolved because Ebay and Reverb are probably dealing with thousands of claims a day and everybody lies on the internet.

Ask the buyer for a detailed explanation of how not was hooked up and under what conditions it wasn’t working. Tell him it must have broken during shipping and you need that info for your insurance claim. My guess is he won’t be able to tell you shit, but it will document his own lack of troubleshooting and may bolster your claim. It worked for me one time. Buyer couldn’t document any type of real problem, he got nervous and cancelled the return. I got lucky

Or cables, that looked like dangerous gear too, so who knows if he even had stuff hooked up right and correct signal flow?

While all my sales on Reverb have been smooth,....I did have a buyer one time say a mint item I had shipped him insured and double boxed had supposedly bent rack ears and would I take a discount? --- I sent him photo's of it being boxed up on shipping day showing mint condition and asked him for photo's of the bent rack ears he claimed it arrived in, and he dropped his scam of trying to get it for less money.....
...... While those messages were being exchanged over several hours, I was in contact with Reverb Customer Service at the same time and found out that Reverb basically sides with the buyers automatically in general for the first 7 days after they receive an item before then siding with the seller after 7 days of item receipt in general, unless evidence to the contrary can be shown,...
... which is why as sellers I agree with those saying document everything, video/photos etc. And I've learned to not give a buyer positive feedback until the 7 days have expired for at least some leverage as a seller to try and keep them honest,....and vetting offers when possible, preferring potential offer buyers with Many smooth transactions and nothing but positive feedback of an account in good standing, over a potential buyer with few transactions that have nothing to lose by closing that account over a scam and making a new one. FWIW

Looks like a hifi guy who might be trying to pull a bait a switch. Two things could be happening.
1) the ATC amp is not plugged into the speakers in the video. I bet you this is the case.
2) much less likely. UPS played football with your package. There are hard drops in their shipping and UPS generally takes more care than FedEx and Amazon. FedEx damaged the casework of couple of rack and desktop pieces in shipping for me over the last few years but they all worked perfectly because they had sturdy casework. ATC products are tanks.

I would definitely cancel your card, and possibly contact your bank to block transactions from Reverb (can't remember if Reverb stores bank acc't/routing info). No way I would put up with that. Sorry you have to deal with this.

I did watch the guy at the UPS store push the box off the scale and onto the floor as I was walking out the door. But like you said, it’s built like a tank. And it was suspended in those hard foam supports in one box, then placed in a second box. After that it was placed in a larger box where more heavy duty foam supported the double box. It’s crazy to think any knocking around could have stopped the thing from working! That video is so shady. Like, I only see one cable maybe going to the back of the unit. And when I messaged the guy back and said I could help troubleshoot, he went dark.

Ironically just heard back from him. He claims it was hooked up properly. No way to tell from that video though:(
