A hot property in the next ten years. Yeah - I know - we will all be listening to our robot overlords make music, but let’s say the field continues on the same trajectory. I immediately start to think about what might not be available as scarcity is the biggest predictor... Are people going to be lapping up Distressors in ten years because the company folded?

You can shake the magic 8 ball but its easier to play the stock market.
I remember buying a pair of dbx 160VU for $600 when nobody wanted em. Sold em for $1500? Thinking I never used them anymore and figured I at least doubled my money.
Also remember when people said large format consoles would be gone, nobody would be using them in 10 odd years.
Yet today an 8058 costs what a small house does and SSL is still in business. So much for speculation!
Next thing to go through the roof? 80s gear. Ill take yomama spx90 for $1000...

In the shorter run, I knew once the Sony MDR-V6 and the RE16 were discontinued... Their values would increase significantly. This is a relatively overlooked niche.
Same for Tascam cassette multitracks, etc. Chris

Some of the Moog gear is already doing this, could increase even more?

Shadow Hills everything. Prices have been going up for years and their web presence is nothing. If they knew how to market their stuff, they would be off the rails popular. I wouldn't be surprised to see them sputter out and values skyrocket.

Agreed on Shadow Hills… Haven’t used it but have heard good things about Inward Connections / Tree Audio gear. Seems high quality and no frills. Anyone here use this stuff? Their client list is pretty impressive.

Neumann v472-2. They are still cheap, but when they become rare and units start to die (20 years time maybe), then one card might sell for close to what a V72 does now, perhaps.

Their client list is pretty impressive. I also have a Tree Audio Branch. It's a really nice channel strip. I've added some Coil preamps recently and the Tree hasn't seen as much use. What I love about the Tree is that it basically can sound good on anything, it's probably one of the safest preamps I've ever used, as nothing ever comes out sounding bad. But... it's also a very clean preamp, and it's not something I would call exciting, it's very very linear, I feel it's one of the flattest preamps I've used, and reacts very predictably to a variety of microphones. The DI is great also. The Coil preamps on the other hand are exciting, they have attitude. They won't work on everything ( thought they still are very flexible with the controls) but when they do it's magical. I also find the Coils have better depth compared to the Tree, a better sense of space. I still use the Tree a lot for vocals when I'm not quite sure what color I want to go for, because it gives me a lot of flexibility come mix time but for most other things I've been using the Coils.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them sputter out and values skyrocket. Could easily say the same thing about Cranesong. Based on my experience at Mercenary some of these small companies would really have no way to cope with massive growth... It's just not on the radar. If Shadowhills got orders for 100 mastering compressors it'd probably choke them. Dangerous, and Emperical built slowly over years. Both started out building gear on the kitchen table in their spare time... some grow from that and others are happy to stay there. Its like Uncle Ricks lab in the garage... the family has no idea what goes on out there but there's one guy and a buddy building $5k tube mics.

My two pairs of Heritage Audio 8173’s and 6673’s have almost doubled in retail price since I bought them about five years ago. From around $2300 AUD each to $4300 AUD each.

If my family would have the ability to watch into the future my grandpa would have seen coming the 2WW but he didn’t and so traumatic experiences were made which are in the DNA for generations.... Meaning we can make assumptions but we never know the future. Maybe the virus killed us all in ten years?? I just live day for day....

I'd guess Lexicon 1U reverbs, Alesis reverbs and the 3630, Distressors (assuming they stop making them before then), and Sony C800G. For instruments, the Akai MPC 2000XL, Boss SP303, Roland JP8000/JP8080, and Access Virus A/B/C/Classic.

None of the clones! I’ll bet on Josephson and Chandler mics, Shadow Hills, Crane Song, DW Fearn.

None of the clones! I’ll bet on Josephson and Chandler mics, Shadow Hills, Crane Song, DW Fearn. I'm willing to bet you that some of today's audioscape 'clones' are going to increase in value as they are made with a substantial amount of unobtanium parts. They aren't making any more NOS 6386s for example, and there are a whole host of parts in their EQPs and MEQs that are getting harder and harder to find. And their forthcoming Fairchild clone is just stupid ambitious. I have serious doubts if it'll be possible to make more than 200 of them before key components are all but gone. But this is just a personal opinion, not the official word of audioscape. However, those in manufacturing 'clones' and 'inspired by' vintage designs are acutely aware of supply chain crunches that are coming for certain recreations. Buy soon. Do not delay. Supplies really are running out.
