I'm looking for a new delay plug. have tried so many and ditched them all. find after all the whistles and bells the reaper plug does the job just as good as everything i've tried.
my other issue with delay plugs is some have a user interface that has a gazillion buttons and knobs whereas i want simple.
valhalla is probably the closest I got to something I liked but in the end the tone just wasn't what i was looking for. have tried many many tape delay plugs and not liked them either.
so I've come to the conclusion it's because i like clean delays. crystal clear. so I'm now thinking the TC 2290 and as a bonus it comes with a control unit. is anyone using the plug version of the 2290?
is there anything else out there i should look at?

Line 6 EchoFarm gets used here 90% of the time. I've got EchoBoy too - and it rarely gets used. Valhalla,,,,as much as I like the company, I don't seem to resonate with their delay. I've got the Pulsar Echorec - it's a great "effecty" sounding delay. Works great when it works, but don't use it that much. The EchoFarm is in CONSTANT use. Mostly on the clean digital delay settings or the muted Memory Man analog sounding presets. Unlike many (2290 included) - it's super simple, to the point. Gets the basics done quick and great sounding for me. Between those two sounds, it FITS in the mix better than anything else for me.

Just curious if you have tried the new Valhalla Delay algo from earlier this month called “Quartz”? it’s supposed to do crystal clear echoes. I really like the D16 Repeater and EchoCat but don’t usually use anything but stock delay for clear ones on the rare occasion I’m looking for that

D16 Repeater is the go-to for me. I just like it’s sound and layout a lot.

ReaDelay in the ReaPlugs DSP pack is super easy to use. So are all the PSP delays.

D16 Repeater is the go-to for me. I just like it’s sound and layout a lot. That was my delay plug of choice, for vocals, and really everything else... for ages.... I even bought it when I got rid of the slate bundle... really nice... I haven't used it for a while, since I simplified everything and have just been using Logic stereo delay... have to think about re installing it cheers Wiz.....wiz....wiz...wiz.... wiz...wiz...wiz...

I use a few things, but Mod Delay III sees a lot of action.

Acustica Audio Lemon has a 2290 setting - A5 - "too cool." It is a CPU hog but it sounds great! I ordered the 2290-DT from Sweetwater when the prices first dropped back in January but got tired of waiting and canceled my order. They've been out of stock for months so I'm not sure what the story is there.

listening to lemon tonight and it's very nice. so is their reverb....
slowly, acustica is reeling me in. I've got a few plugs now, so i need to do more a/b to decide whether to go all in or not.
cream is great and i use their free plugs more and more.

My mixes can't.

They've been out of stock for months so I'm not sure what the story is there. I ordered one of the reverbs - same story. Global supply chain issues and chip shortages are affecting everything from cars to washing machines to audio gear - and will be for a while. It’s so bad lots of auto manufacturers are laying people off and idling factories. A buddy ordered a focusrite D16R - won’t be available til July/august, another ordered a pair of Yamaha monitors - same time frame. Matt at Iron Age and Jeff from CAPI agave said they are having problems getting switches/transformers. It is what it is (and is going to be for a while) production expert did an article on it that said AKM chips don’t even have a timeframe to begin manufacturing again after their big fire. Time to play the waiting game and, As Homer Simpson said “The waiting game sucks, let’s play Hungry, Hungry Hippos” or some music or instead 🤣

I like the McDSP EC300. I use Avid HDX, so having AAX native and AAX DSP is great!

Echoboy, Valhalla Delay, H-Delay mostly. Not sure they’re the greatest - just my go-to’s.

H-Delay, Echoboy, sometimes Pulsar Echorec, IK Tape Echo, or IK Space Delay for those types of vintage sounds. These are the most used. Sometimes various Eventide for stereo slaps and so on, more obvious creative effects. Briefly I really loved what was given for free the CLA EchoSphere plugin, that delay sounded incredible on vocals. Really want the Valhalla Echo, but I use their free effects like Space Modulator, Freq Echo and Super Massive once in a while to pretend to be Nigel Godrich or something, even though I can rarely pull that off in a mix. And if you have Plugin Alliance in your zone, check out some of the Unfiltered Audio delay based plugins, the UA stuff is growing on me.

HDelay gets used the most by a large margin in my mixes. It's not that it's great but it's easy and quick. I can get what I want fast and that's more important to me. I have so many delays but most, especially the twiddly ones, never get used. Echorec is also fun. I've used it a few times on Bonham type stuff. Of course, that is anything but clean. If I really want clean, I just use the stereo delay that comes in Nuendo/Cubase.

I always fall back on the Logic Delays.
Was about to buy Repeater after I stopped the Slate sub. plan, but I never pulled the trigger...
In between I needed something different asked drbill and I did not buy Echofarm either. The whole thing ended awkward because it was not the type of delay plugin - it was me the OP. So to speak the problem was in front of the screen.

Echo boy, Roland SDE3000 or Yamaha 1500 plus a some old Deltalab here. You want simple? Hardware delays can be found pretty cheap.

I've struggled with getting a delay I found easy to get a setting I liked. Yesterday, I used Logic's built in "Tape Delay", and it was just about perfect. I might figure out how to EQ that delay a bit, but it did the job quickly.
I may not bother looking for another delay plug now. I used H Delay for a long time, but all my Waves plugs GUI's has gone bye bye, and I don't want t bother with Waves anymore anyway.

Soundtoys has a sale on the Echoboy and Echoboy Jr. $49, $29. I wonder if it's worth even bothering with. I do like my other Soundtoys plugs a lot.

A clean delay plugin that I never really hear anyone mention anymore--but is IMO quite good--is Waves SuperTap. I haven't used it in awhile myself due to WUP fuckery, but it was my goto for years. Very fast and easy to use. Easy to get ping-pongs happening if that's what you want, etc.

All I know is that if you want a simple clean delay the 2290 is not the way to go. That's probably one of the most complex delay units ever with a ton of different settings all around.
For the best simple results, just built in delay plugins win every time. I use MOD III more than anything for that.
If you want some color and mojo in the delay, well then you go down the road that leads you to the 2290.
So not totally sure what it is you're looking for..seems conflicting.
If you wanna go simple and hardware, get an SPX90 II. Can be had at times for around 100-150 bucks. It's easy to use and pretty easy to recall. Used 12 bit converters so it has a cool sound that always sort of just fits. Its a mono in stereo out unit so be aware of that. If you want stereo in look at an spx900 which is quieter as well and cleaner.

Im chasing clean and simple to use and must add value to the tone
Have used the spx90 and liked it on drums and vocals although it is pretty coloured.
For now ill try the acustica lemon which is clean and simple to use.
Then get the 2290 when they come back into stock. Im hoping the controller unit of the 2290 makes it more intuitive to use.
