Just curious, how can you tell? The bx_consoles sounded too similar in my demos with them so I put them into plugin doctor and it’s a waveshaping function like those In freeclip, kclip, inflator, and true iron. They’re still decent plugs. I just think the THD and TMT are a bit of false advertising and the dynamics are a bit dysfunctional. That’s interesting that it’s just a waveshapper. Didn’t know that about true iron either! Any recommendations for distortion/saturation plugins that actually model the circuits? TMT is a great concept but I don’t know why they “model” channels instead of just randomizing SLIGHTLY like within the component tolerance specified by the original manufacturer like +/- 1% or 2% or whatever value wouldn’t have made you patch around that channel or call the tech to fix it. PA didn’t put any THD in the original console and people went crazy so they added some and I don’t recall them ever claiming it’s accurate to the particular model. They have also always said ALL of the bx_consoles use the same “distortion” obviously the Lindell-80 is a different thing (although I don’t know if it is done differently)

Some vendors might do you a favor if you ask, not sure, maybe worth a short message. I emailed. I'm sure Sweetwater would have taken care of me. Not sure about Best Service. We'll see. They refunded the difference for me. Kick ass.

They have also always said ALL of the bx_consoles use the same “distortion” obviously the Lindell-80 is a different thing (although I don’t know if it is done differently) You have to consider what is good in theory vs good in practice and works in the real world. Also the build up vs the stand out. the stuff that sounds good built up in a mix might not be the stuff to make something stand out that's receding back. The same is true with modeling. Analog modeling sounds nice but lets take an 1176. Sure UAD, DMG, and Slate did a lot more modeling of the real deal than everyone else but their plugs don't work like an 1176 at all. They can't do the same thing. Boxtone, yeah but who cares? They can't get the job done. Otherplugs like Softube FET, Overloud 76 V2, and U-he Presswerk will get the job done all day with phase shift from unreported latency when you enable the lookahead to stop the clicks in the softube and minimum phase oversampling that will mess up a lot of stuff tonally. So you're stuck with PSP Fetpressor, Brainworx Purple MC77, and TDR Molot GE (use insane mode) which don't even try to sound like an 1176 at all and I'm sure they did not attempt to circuit model nearly as much as the hyped up guys. I'm sure Brainworx threw in their tanh(x) somewhere and the only thing Tokyo Dawn modeled only the SSL 4000 channel tolerances for the mid eq (same as slick eq dual mono mode) and Zvukofor's hardware tanh(x) saturatator hahaha. The PSP installer looks like a Windows 98 computer game, it doesn't oversampling, has aliasing, and a soft and weird knee, but use the high pass filter, dig in and offensive transients gone without issues but it's not even close to an 1176. Goodhertz Faraday will work too sometimes and sound cool but it's a lookahead limiter with a lot of nice dirty color. With distortion gear, use what works. I like the Ray Dratwa plugs (Fuse everything, Neold v76, Black Rooster 73, Plugin Alliance Acme Opticom. Blackbox and Phil's Cascade are too pop/edm drum sounding for me to use but are cool as hell), Tokyo Dawn Slick EQ GE output stages, PSP vintage warmer very gently, PSP Infinistrip pre amps (even the 12-bit ADC) used gently, Goodhertz stuff, Klanghelm SDRR 2 in HQ+ mode, U-he Satin on everything, Waves Kramer HLS very lightly on everything gainstaged into (the funnest Waves dirt ime), Waves Kramer Tape on master bus (Waves dirt + tube dirt). I hate every API plugin I've tried and I hate the build up from the Soundtoys stuff but the Soundtoys are great special effects on one or two tracks. They're all one sale now. Decapitator is too pop and the build up kinda sucks. Sonnox Oxford Inflator and Kazrog True Iron are very static but sound good. I wouldn't buy them but they sound good. I now trim and use the VPRE-376 on everything as the first insert if I want some class a push and transistor grit to stuff not tracked through good pres or without uniform pres. Lots of muddy metal stuff that needs some grit and balls when the Neve plugs (there are a bunch of them that will get you in the ball park) wouldn't be appropriate. I'm about to try the Kush stuff now and melt my brain. Silika sounds so cool.

Audioscape 150$ off 500 series tonight So, does that mean $150 off the V108 price I see on the website now ($599)? In other words, will the sale price be $449 for the V108, or am I already seeing the sale price at $599?

The newest RME AVB-equipped converters are on sale via the usual suspects. As such, I snagged an M-1610.
That new filter module looks interesting.

I felt bad when I first read what happened bc I shared the link to them. They have always been a pleasure to deal with and this just makes me feel better that they took care of you.

I’ve asked to switch before, but they seemingly won’t honor the request. They just push me down to one of my guy’s direct underlings, so I’m still dealing with the same guy at the end of the day. No matter. I pretty much solved the problem: I just don’t shop there anymore!

My experience and same with VK too...there are enough un-savvy buyers out there to keep these giant operations deep into the black. They aren’t interested in dealing with professionals who have multiple dealer options and can negotiate. Oh well, it’s the buyer’s money.

Years ago I asked to switch sales rep and they reluctantly did,....but as the years went by, the reasons I used to buy at SW that seldom offered deals, was for getting tech support and no sales tax that have now changed to sales tax most places now, and their tech support experience on average has gone noticeably downhill, to the point that I do the same and just don't shop there anymore.

I talked trash (whoops) about my "sales representative" on a thread on the purple forum and sweetwater found my post and changed them for me. It was kind of weird, but it happened. The new one is straight to the point, which is fine with me. I'm not looking for a "relationship" just a decent deal, if and when I am ready to buy something.
