I am not sure but is not exactly this what RME is doing with thier MADI connection? Assuming that you already have MADI on your system. And MADI is slow - it cuts your channels in half at 96, at a time when many people are going to 96k or even faster. I don't really see much reason to go above 96, but that still halves your number of channels.
As far as I know MADI offers the lowest latency you can buy. Just yesterday Dirk @ RME wrote me that a MADI+USB connection does 64 CH in simultaneous operation. I think that's still impressive.

MADI has been replaced. Audio over IP is the way forward.

Re: Interface Stability
My SF Apollo has been rock solid via FW800 lol & TB card. UAD software ( console 1 & 2 + plugins ) has always installed effortlessly. Works great w/ Ableton Live, PT, Studio One, GarageBand, FL etc. Computer audio plays thru the Apollo monitor outputs.

Sure it does - at 48K. At 96 it does 32. That's what my Antelope does all by itself.

I do not run my Antelope Orion 32 into any other interface. The only thing it connects to is my console and outboard preamps, period. It has NEVER given me a problem, to date.
I am convinced that the ones crying about problems blew the installation, which is fairly easy to do if you're one of the people who don't bother to read the instruction manual and FOLLOW IT EXACTLY. I do not use MADI, ever, because at 96 it cuts your available channels in half. To me, running at 96, that's a colossal waste of money.Back in antiquity when everyone was at 48k it made sense, but I haven't run at 48 in ages. Why would anyone spend the money for 32 channels just to cut it in half to 16 with a stupid MADI connection? It makes no sense.
Reading about it in forums means nothing - the people complaining are those who blew their installation, which is easy to do IF YOU DON'T FOLLOW THE DAMN DIRECTIONS IN THE MANUAL. It's not that the directions are at all difficult, either, but you MUST do everything in the stated order and you MUST be connected to the internet BEFORE YOU START. If you try to install without being connected you WILL screw it up.
JUST FOLLOW THE DAMN DIRECTIONS!
I got mine back in August 2016 and it has been solid ever since, no "other interface", no glitches, no nothing. The inputs connect to my console or preamp outputs from the outboard pres. The outputs connect to the console.
Running under Win 7 - I see no reason to change; the only time that computer has been connected to the internet is that installation.
It also seems like a great number of those complaining have never actually used the interface - they're parroting crap they read posted by crybabies on GS. Once something like this gets posted online it self-perpetuates.

The connection people have the most problem with in these interfaces is the connection to the computer. Some people get off scott free and Bob's your uncle. You get a mix of these experiences in online discussions.
My Aardvark Pro Q10 lost Windows support very early in its life, and the resale value of it got cut in half or more, I lost a few hundred dollars, moved on to Echo.

Yet I still love my little Aardsync as a stand-alone SEMPTE box.

Being using antelope Orion studio synergy Core for 3 months now. The units really sounds great, But i have been getting audio glitch when using there AFX2DAW plugin to run there plugins as normal plugins. They have been helpful, login in remotely several times to help, they where unable to fix the problem. My system is brand new with only protools 2020.9 installed. They even sent me a new unit to try, but got the same results.. antelope recommended For me to buy an apple approved TB Cable (us$150) which i knew was a Waste of time and money, but i gave them the benefit of the doubt. Only answer i got from them was they think the issue is with the way PT is handling the plugins, which i think is BS, told me to try another DAW a program.. so i paid a premium price to be able to use there DSP to off load cpu usages to my imac.. but didn’t get what they are selling... so life will go on, but I’am not happy.. So don't use their damn plugins. Thanks, nice response..

So don't use their damn plugins. Thanks, nice response.. I apologize on his behalf. Some posters here are unaware of how they come across. I used to take it personal cuz ppl would misinterpret my words & I would theirs. Hope we can all build each other up here. I’m not familiar with the Antelope interface plugin workflow so I can’t really help you. Hopefully Antelope support can get you up and running!

HAH! My old converters were 3 Echo Layla 96s. Started with 2, got the 3rd later, after they got cheap. Ditched then, and the Lucid clock when I got the Antelope Orion 32. Quantum leap in quality. I think they're still around somewhere, I know the Lucid is. One of the Echos has a weird problem with a channel imbalance (and I do mean "imbalance") on one input. It appears to have lost one side of the balanced pair. Of course by then Echo had unceremoniously dumped support for all their conversion products.
As I 've been saying (and saying, and saying) there's a reason for that mixed response. If you're an egotistical know-it-all who thinks that just because he's installed other brands of converter before he doesn't need to read the instructions, you're bound to screw it up. If you follow the instructions to the letter then it's smooth sailing. And if you screw it up there's no second chance - if installation fails because you didn't do things in the proper order it's going to take a long call to customer support to sort it out. I'm not saying this because I think I'm some super installation guy. I'm saying it because I was forewarned - I saw a post somewhere that outlined the "problem" and therefore made DAMN certain that we followed the manual EXACTLY, and BINGO! It worked. And yes, the problem has to do with the connection to the computer. And to the internet.
