Let me help with that : Is it possible to have too many plugins on your list ? No... no, that's crazy talk. How's that: better ?

Damnit. I like the bx_console N a lot. Liked it when it came out too just didn't want to pay the price at the time. It's rounder than the SSL channels (which I love and use all the time). I wasn't into the Lindell 80 series or the Focusrite much at all. But they got me with the N. Love it.

Got the Lindell 80 and ShadowHillsMC Red. Like them, but you have go light with them. Too much goo fast with both. Sometimes it's not what you want. I never engineered on the hardware.
I think the public's ear (and mine) has gotten acclimated to quality, euphonic, digital sound. You don't need a heck of a lot of analog vibe at this moment in pop audio, auditing the pop charts. You're gonna want it where you need, of course.
I like vibey production, but I also like it against the velvety digital black. And a mix of clean and distorted elements.

Got the Ampeg B15, I’m sure it will be useful. However, I’ve decided I have too many compressors and EQ already!

I ended up focusing on compressors mostly. I REALLY like the Maag Magnum K. I went ahead and grabbed their EQ4 as well. I also grabbed the bx-opto and of course, the Shadow Hills. I generally find plugin compressors to sound flat with only a few exceptions. I think these will give a few more options.

Lindell 80, ShadowHills and Purple MC77. Hard to beat those for $29 each

After thinking on it overnight, I grabbed the Lindell 80 too. Hard to pass up even though I spent twice as much as I started at by the end of it.
Really like Lindell 80 and Console N on crunchy guitars, seems to make them fat, saucy and mean.

Not quite as juicy as Acustica Gold, but infinitely easier to use.

OK, well I ended up getting the B-15 and the Focusrite console. I was sorely tempted on the Purple and on Iron. But honestly, I'm questioning whether I should've gotten anything at all. When I started adding some choice outboard gear a couple years ago (Silver Bullet, Audioscape SSL, Zulu, some Stam pieces), I decided plugins are just going to always leave me feeling a little empty inside, and that it's really worth just saving up for hardware.
But the algorithms are getting better each year, it seems, and their siren call still beckons. I'll see how I feel in a few weeks.

I succumbed as well!
Mäag Magnum K Mäag EQ4 Lindell 254E Blackbox HG2 SSL 4000 E
I'd prefer to get UAD versions of this stuff so I can run DSP instead of CPU, but the price of these is too low to pass up.
The two pieces from Mäag were pretty eye opening. Before pulling the trigger I really tried to duplicate the sound using other EQs, even auditioning the latest Acustica Jade which is supposedly a Mäag EQ4. Nothing I tried really offered the same weight and tone, not to mention that juice that helps things poke through a mix. I've heard it talked about forever, and never really tried them out. How hard is it to create a couple high end shelves?
I also enjoyed auditioning the elysia products on some source material, but I can't buy them all even at that price.
Almost bought the SPL Drum Xchanger. I think it works pretty well and sounds good with the sample files they offered in the demo. Straight up pop and rock drums it's the ticket if you want to quickly fix poor sound or make bigger. It's extremely fast and SPL can make things huge with minimal effort. But I was purposely trying it on some difficult projects with more jazz feel and lots of bleed. It's nice because it sidechains and works in really time, but I don't know that it picked up the correct hits any better than the built-in Logic Pro drum replacer. I also learned how to use Logic to give the replacement more of a variety of velocity and some varied pitch. It might be another one of those Logic features that doesn't get enough due.

I got the Focusrite console free last month, added the the Maag Magnum-K and SH Mastering Compressor Class A during the sale. Had avoided Plugin Alliance up until they started to compete with the Waves forever sale...

I also like it against the velvety digital black Yes. In all things. "Velvety Digital Black"- sounds like an album or song title.
