If I gain stage the BRW SSL with enough space for breathing .... it sounds wide and open.... Could not be more happy.... for the rest I think its very similar to the Waves SSL.

I’m with you on the HW vs SW Shadow Hills (though I’m still going to by it for $29.99 because I loved it on UAD and will use it) but man, having both, I think the Brainworx SSL wipes the floor with the Waves. The Waves sounds pinched and brittle by comparison (to me). I wish it weren’t the case. I paid like $500 for the Waves bundle.

I think the ageing Waves SSL is one of the least appealing options for this type of plugin. I don't think I ever liked it, even back then. However it has been said that the CLA MixHub is a great sounding SSL from Waves. I own it but I honestly have not even really shot it out with my UAD and BX. So many plugins, so little time.

I spent time auditioning a handful of stuff last night. I was incredibly surprised that I ended up buying the Mäag Magnum K compressor with the EQ2 built in. It also includes a BX module for doing stereo or M/S. That combo on a bus was surprisingly magic.
And I was also annoyed that with all of the saturation tools I already have I still found the Blackbox HG2 more helpful on something like drum bus or vocal chains.
I was messing with the SPL drum exchanger. The built-in transient designer seems to make it simple and an incredible value. But I already have a lot of drum sounds in aiff and this only takes Wav

Got a minute to demo the two Shadow Hills comps. I still really like the SHMC and wasn't that into the Class A. Sounded like it was trying to put too much hair on things or something. I love the original SHMC though, I've missed it. Wasn't into the 80 series on first blush. I've already got the Lindell 254e and it sounds to me like the 80 series is maybe just some of that code and a Neve style EQ which I didn't think sounded as good as the Slate which I already have. Gonna browse PA a bit more to see if I want to use that second coupon.
I may grab the Millenia NSEQ-2. I also really loved that thing when I was in UAD land.

Extended Sale good now I got two more vouchers...GRRR I think the Lindell 80 sounds tempting and it sounds to me that Slate is having a technology problem.

So I just did a bunch of demos quickly and these are my thoughts. Townhouse SSL Comp - Meh... Millenia TCL2 amp - Meh... Millenia EQ - Meh... Shadow Hills Class A Comp - Cool, weight and vibe Maag EQ - wow Maag Compressor - wow
I already grabbed the Shadow hills with a voucher. Trying to get the Maag pieces now.
"I would consider the 80 and the Focusrite channels but I have committed to the Softube Console 1 after testing with other options. I'm calling my channel processing done for now.

I just picked up the MC77. I really didn't need another 1176 type FET compressor, but the price made it hard to resist. Still thinking about maybe picking up something else but I can't think what I really need. I already have almost all their plugins anyway. The ones I don't have are not of much interest. I know a lot of people are talking about the Shadow Hills stuff, but I don't need anymore compressors. I feel like I'm buying just because they are good deals and not anything I need. Don't get me wrong, I use a ton of their plugins on every mix. I just can't think of anything else I really need. I think I should save the money for the Soothe upgrade instead.

Interesting that is what I thought yesterday too. The VSC2 was a wise choice because its an FET sound I never had ITB. But what's next 80s Series, puh wow I have a real 1073 which I use and abuse.
Townhouse? Cytomic the Glue kills them all - including G stile hardware compressors.
We are spoiled, the market is over saturated - we have the tools we need.

Ampeg V4 is fantastic. I always need to keep the bass knob low.
Shadow Hills lives on my drum buss now.
MC77 is a bright 76 emu. Pretty cool for stuff you want to cut.

My second choice is the ACME XLR3 Optical Compressor. And here is why...
It is a plug with character it has coloration/saturation/artifacts which are just sweet. Never sounds harsh never does crazy jumps in its attack release behavior.
But what my yaw made drooping it does that goey LA2A thing on the e-base player.
Good choice...

The Purple handles vocal transients more like hardware than maybe any other ITB 1176 I've used and that's something I lean on 1176s a lot for - the thick, smacky vocal. It's also exceptionally good on drums and piano. I'm a fan. If anyone has a voucher they're not gonna use, hit me up. I wanna buy the Millenia NSEQ-2 too

yeah I like the Purple a lot, occasionally it's too bright for something but most of the time it's really exciting to listen to

PA support is NG. At the time I can't demo anything, and they do not write back.

Hey if you’re looking for another discount voucher...try your original A code. Mike just worked again. Got the Millennia NSEQ-2, which I always really liked.
Man, the SHMC and Millenia NSEQ-2 for $59.98. That’s better than the $500 or so I paid for them on UAD.
I have missed these two.

Whoa, thanks for the tip, Ragan! I got SPL Iron with my original A voucher that I had already used once.
Is it possible to have too many plugins? No... no, that's crazy talk.
