What’s your computer? I posted my experience on the UAD forum and promptly got a “your computers old...” I’m using a 15” display MacBook Pro mid 2012 i7 2.3 cpu with 16 gigs of ram. Removed SuperDrive DVD/CD and installed two SSD drives. My system Drive is 480 Gigs and my secondary drive is my Sound Drive for Superior Drummer 3, 1 TB, and I have another external usb3 1 TB drive I record to. This machine smokes with UAD Console and Studio One 4(Latest Version). I haven’t maxed it out yet. It works great with Protools and Studio One. Solid as a rock with the Apollo Interface. Luna, not so much! Bums me out. I thought I would be able to install Luna and I’m off to recording! Lol...yeah, my computers old! I wouldn’t say it’s incapable though. I am wanting to upgrade, but we need to get through this China export first. Mine is similar...but then it occurred to me that I don’t run Cubase or PTs at 128 buffers with full sessions.

Ah yes, I actually didn’t purchase my Protools perpetual license this time around and I’m only running Studio One 4(latest version). I can’t remember what buffer I have it set to currently because it’s not my main machine. I have 16 option but can’t run it that low. I know I can run it no problem at 32 thru 512. Not higher than that while tracking. And mixing on 2048 of course.

2012 i7, 2.7, 16 g, 2 ssd here, mojave , no Ua no Luna.
Wierd: as I know people with not new computers and Luna install and run went fine, but they didn’t enjoy the user experience so aren’t going Lina gaga.

But that's the thing. In Pro Tools I can change it for 1024 while mixing. I thought Luna promised a 128 buffer with 1024 perfomance, or something like that. If it's fixed in 128, I see more problems here than solutions.

Luna is fixed at 128.

And perfomance wise, it's like being at 128 on Pro Tools? I mix on a fairly good Imac and a equally good PC, and I can't mix at 128 on any of them. Too much of a headache.

I wonder if it’s 128 for tracking and switches for mixing? Lots of questions, if it has unlimited channels ( only limited by your cpu), that implies big sessions, vi’s etc, ?
Maybe the arm functionality makes luna more efficient ?

128 will only be for the armed tracks??. No reason to run the playback tracks at 128. Pretty sure all DAWs do this now days.

Kinda want to try this, but I’m really not keen on frying my iMac. Plus I’m on HS, definitely not going to Mojave or Catalina any time soon.
Hopefully they can address the fan issue. That’s a no-go for me.

@tkaikai there are reports of people running Luna on HS, could you clone your drive, then you could try and not have to worry ?

Are you telling me they have this fixed at 128....like, no changing it at all? That's a MAJOR limitation. I thought when I read that, whomever meant that was the fixed buffer for INSTRUMENT tracks....

I believe "ARM" is for UAD plugins only not native plugins. Can someone verify that? I know UA has decent native latency though, with Apollo interfaces, so they might both be alright. Just watching from the sidelines. I'm interested how UA has dealt with native plugins, vs "emphasising" their own stuff, which would be sort of expected.

Sure would be nice to get it working, so I could use it. I will be troubleshooting some more over the next couple days as I get time. It could possibly be an ilok issue. That is what I will be focusing on next, setting it up for iCloud, I guess...I’m sure UA is swamped with support issues. I’ll check out the UA forums in the meantime. Happy Corona!

ARM is completely different....that's using the UAD to monitor your input....it's automatic, right? You input enable a track with a UAD plug in, there should be the same (non) latency as doing that in Console....the reason I ask is that if the native playback mixer is locked at 128, you will be able to access basically 1/8th of your CPU at mixdown--likely the Neve summing taking a chunk of that....
Make no mistake--I am ok with the platform "emphasizing" UAD use....duh--that's the point, to use it in ways that ONLY UAD can be used--like what you're calling ARM....not sure why they needed a name for it, but....there's a difference in making a platform that shows off the extra flexibility in workflow of the UAD platform, thus encouraging people to buy more of those than native--and gimping your intel chip to a tiny fraction of its capability so that you ALSO have to use UAD plug ins to MIX with. IMO, that's where you cross the line between good salesmanship--SHOWING people what's possible with UAD only DSP....and crass corporate greed FORCING people to buy UAD accelerators AND more expensive plugs to be able to do a mix--when there's no TECHNICAL advantage in UAD DSP.
I called my UAD buddy and froze his buying this until I see different, I told him buy nothing for LUNA. Track in it if you like--move it all to Mixbus to mix.

Puremix had Fab DuPont doing a Webinair a few hours ago entitled mixing a song in Luna. They had issues with the streaming but it was obvious there are several great aspects to this software/ hardware combo.
Number 1 would be the ability to track to all intents and purposes with zero latency in a to tape fashion with reverb and UAD plugs on the recording tracks. That freedom of just getting on and making music is fundamental to me. Any UAD plugs are able to work in real tine; other manuf's plugs are definitely disabled on the recording track . ( not sure if the disabling is across all tracks even those not in record - maybe some of you can clarify). However to clarify, other manuf's plugs work normally in a mix situation
Given the export functions are comprehensive, if the other capabilities of V 1.0 aren't floating your boat, then tracking in Luna and mixing in your current DAW would be a no brainer. Of course you could run tracks through the summing before export if you wanted as well.
Speaking of which, the Neve summing sounded very good and Capitol chambers on the song they were using (beautifully tracked by Mick Guszauski BTW) made it a must buy when I update my set up.
Number 2 is the constant automatic saving feature; if for instance there is a crash you re-boot to exactly where you were - very cool.
Comping and automation seemed to be well resoled also.
I'm sure you guys will get your issues sorted; there's too much riding on it. I have to say I'm surprised UA stumbled, of all compamies I would have thought they'd have nailed basic stability right from the get go but hey it's V 1.0 and free.
Cheers, Ross

Based in Bill’s letter, I think they basically let a not finalized v1 out for real world testing and the ability for clients to communicate problems issues directly back, 10,000’s of testers is at least more efficient ?

It really works great for tracking...and it seems to be more efficient than others at low latency, but I’d really like to be able to either adjust buffers or have freeze if I’m going to mix with it.

Update!!! The 1.01 version update fixed my issue with I believe was an ilok issue, and I was able to open Superior Drummer 3 without crashes to desktop when selecting a preset. Just as I was getting ready to track after selecting a kit and groove in Superior Drummer 3, my dog had a seizure, now I’m at the vet. I can’t believe they are open. Anyway, I just might be able to record something today, and to add, he didn’t have a seizure because of my guitar playing...😁 Hopefully, we I get back from the vet I can actually give Luna a go!
