Ignore function is just the best, it’s awesome to be able to skip beeing upset by obvious trolls, but imho this forum has the friendliest and most troll free environment of all the forums I’ve used for the last 15 years so here I’ve not yet have use for it.

It’s really quite simple...

Maybe I’ve got some auto-ignore algorithm working on my RGO feed, but I can’t think of any posts I’ve seen that would warrant any outrage... I haven’t been here all that long, but it seems like a great place!

Seriously? You can’t scroll past a post and not read it? God forbid. The impetus for creating RGO was the sour grapes from GS. Why the sour grapes? Because some things are hard to 'ignore.' Right?

While I do use the ignore function at GS (although I frequently opt to read the posts of an ignored person), it often seems to me that using "ignore" is an awful lot like a little kid sticking his fingers in his ears, screwing up his eyes, and repeatedly screaming "I'M NOT LISTENING TO YOU!" over and over while jumping up and down. This thing is, often one can learn something from people who don't agree with you or are critical of things they read, whereas you almost never learn anything from people who only agree with you.
And sometimes something that might appear to you to be unrelated to a topic actually is.
Exactly why I've never used ignore on any forum. Even the most annoying troll will at some point challenge my thinking in a way that I learn something I didn't expect. Silver linings...

Not participating is fine...but why would you delete your account? It’s super passive aggressive. It seems more aggressive-aggressive to me...

I think Jeremy's probably right. People who get too heavy online probably have other issues. Quite possibly. But who knows? Maybe this person had just had a bad year. You and I both know something about that.

Try not to read too much into it John. I've met a few people who online were incredibly rude and nasty, but in person they were weaklings and not at all persuasive. The internet is a great equalizer, but it does give some complete schmucks the power to use their words negatively. Fortunately, there's very little of that here at RGO thanks to you.

I have to say - and I'm not looking for any responses (or sympathy) to this - but it's getting tiresome for me. I get PM's complaining about the way I run things. I get PM's accusing me of things. I have had Manufacturers mad at me for not deleting things. I've had Manufacturers mad at me for deleting things. I have had people pissed at me for the same reasons. I've had people accuse me of being a shill. There's a huge contingent of the pro audio community that looks down on me and this board because of snobbery. There's a huge contingent of people that think I'm one of the snobs. And the list goes on and on. But the really cool part of it is, I get to PAY for all this to keep it going...and I didn't mind that for the last six years, but I'm not going to continue if it continues to devolve.

Is there any 'ignore' for PM's? I'm only half kidding. You can't please everyone, and I know people come and go here, as well as in life. Me, I just like to hang here, and I enjoy just about everyone's participation, [edit] especially the general civility we aim for.

Personally, I'm really grateful for this place, and for all you do to build and maintain it. Also, sending you a PM in a minute here...

I think you run things just fine. This is one of my two favorite sites, along with Terry Manning's place. I'm still on GS in the guitar forum but my interest is waning - but every so often I get a PM thanking me for helping someone out with some bit of technical info that makes it worthwhile enough to stick around - I guess. It's like quitting smoking.

IMO - part of signing up for a forum (and participating) is the anticipation of views from passionate people (music/audio is a passionate undertaking) whose viewpoints are radically different from your own. If you can't deal with that, you probably shouldn't be on ANY audio / music forums. Cause you're going to get rubbed wrong at some point. Fact of life.

And this isn't an either/or situation with GS...I don't care if you go to GS at all. Not sure if that feeling is shared by them.

I feel the same and appreciate this forum John. I'm guessing it's like most things where you only hear from the 5-10% of people who are vocal, but the silent majority of people, from those who post often, to those who occasionally post, to the many who never post at all but stop by to search, read and learn, all appreciate this forum even if you unfortunately seldom hear the thanks. For me, RGO is a great place to come share and learn, Thank you !
