It’s not hard, people. I’ve just had one person delete their account because I wouldn’t kick another member off the board. So now all he’s done is hurt RGO because he didn’t get his way. I have a few words for passive aggressiveness like this, but I’ll refrain.
To block another member: switch to desktop view (at bottom), click on their name, click on the “gear” icon on the right, click “block member.”

And don’t PM me to tell me “do this or I’m quitting the board” because that’s a good way for me to go ahead and do it for you.

Doesn't work. I've tried it numerous times. So, I'm just putting up with the disagreeable SOB.

It’s even easier to be an adult and use your personal ignore function that is built into your brain. It works pretty well if you nurture it 👍🏻

I've tried 'block member' too, and it didn't seem to work.. I'll try again. And while we can 'use our personal ignore brain function' it would be nice to not have to sift through a post ignoring a (specific) person who always seems to naysay, correct or sidetrack. It does get old for me.

Seriously? You can’t scroll past a post and not read it? God forbid.

John, Thanks for all you do with this board. It's a fun place to hang out and learn a bit. Some people have agendas, but that's true everywhere. This is a much more civil environment than most other forums I frequent.

I just tried it and it worked perfectly. You can also click on your own profile, go to "edit profile" and then "Privacy." At the bottom of the page, you can search names that you want to block...then you have an ala carte menu for how much you want to block them. Make sure to click save at the bottom.

Alright John - we get it. I’ve been blocking people since I first started here. You can stop talking to yourself now.

Seriously? You can’t scroll past a post and not read it? God forbid. No, I definitely can scroll past a post. Just mentioning that it would be nice to pre-filter the two page diatribes/bickering people get into on something totally unrelated to the topic of a thread. If I can block someone, I wont scroll past the relevant content sprinkled in the tangent posts. Love the forum (my favorite), just giving some feedback based on my own experience in line with the OP. I'll try blocking again.

While I do use the ignore function at GS (although I frequently opt to read the posts of an ignored person), it often seems to me that using "ignore" is an awful lot like a little kid sticking his fingers in his ears, screwing up his eyes, and repeatedly screaming "I'M NOT LISTENING TO YOU!" over and over while jumping up and down. This thing is, often one can learn something from people who don't agree with you or are critical of things they read, whereas you almost never learn anything from people who only agree with you.
And sometimes something that might appear to you to be unrelated to a topic actually is.

Can I use the ignore button on myself? Definitely Top Ten funniest RGO post. I'm jealous-cause I didn't think of it first! Chris

I've had to use it before. It has to get pretty bitter before that one comes out, but it works.

Well I'll be doggoned, it finally worked! Can I scroll past a disagreeable person's posts? Sure. But sometimes you need to take a break from someone . . . and in this case, it works. So thank you for the tip! Any one of us can rub someone else the wrong way. When someone does this to you, it's nice to be able to 'leave the room' for a spell. Hope that makes sense to someone. Glad I don't have the pleasure of moderating around here! If I ever offend anyone, I'm truly sorry and open to a message with a built-in kick in the pants.

Not participating is fine...but why would you delete your account? It’s super passive aggressive.

Not participating is fine...but why would you delete your account? It’s super passive aggressive. It's the deepest, most sincere, and most self-defeating expression of assholicism.
I don't know if the blocking feature here includes the ability to view the postes of someone one has blocked. The GS version does and without that I doubt that I'd use that function much, if at all.
