www.rode.com/tf-5I have never been impressed with Rode, but Tony Faulkner has great ears and is a legend in the world of Classical recording!

Thanks for posting this, Eric. Interesting indeed. Wondering about the cardioid-only. TF being a classical recordist, I would have thought omni. Maybe an omni cap is in the offing. Will be interesting to hear these.

Hm. Curious.
Every RODE mic I've used has been bright tin crap. Maybe these will be better? Whats the price point supposed to be?

Rode M3,for home recording, is a nice flat-ish condenser. The new (black) NT1 is very nice too IMHO. I haven't tried either of the Classic versions, but Adele "did OK", with the Rode Classic 2. (little album called 21) Chris

1500$USD for a pair in case anyone also had a hard time finding a list price.

Kind of interesting he says in the video they don’t hype up their stuff. This is from the sweetwater description of the K2 for $699. So is this Rode or SW marketing?
“Legendary Sound! RODE carefully constructed the K2 to deliver the sound and character of the prized transducers of the 50 and 60s. They've succeeded, thanks to the K2's HF1 capsule, a true 1" condenser built along the exact lines of the older transducers, but with the reliability of modern technology! Rode hand selects the tubes for the K2 for specification and sound quality. From opera to punk rock and everything in between, the Rode K2 is literally in a class by itself!”
disclaimer:I’m not trying to be a jerk here, just pointing out and poking a little fun, ;p (I’ll use a Rode mic quite often, though there is a learning curve.)

It might be worth pointing out that the capsules have been available for a while, as they're used on Rode's NT-SF1 Soundfield microphone. You get four (plus four preamps) for $1000 - no idea whether the capsules will unscrew or fit onto an NT-5 body.

The story goes that the first Rode mic known as the RODE NT1 was given its name as a result of an in-house joke. Something to do with rats or mice I believe.
